Note If you have performed this step correctly, you should see a 1X (or 1XEV) next to a telephone pole icon followed by some bars near the top of your screen. Note A small 1x will briefly appear. It should then change into a large 1X (or 1XEV). If a large 1X (or 1XEV) does not appear within 5 minutes of turning on the handheld, please call Mobile Support at 1-866-424-5100. Activating Your Mobile Step2a: Phone Service Unless you are transferring your phone number, your BlackBerry smartphone s phone service comes activated and ready to use out of the box. If you would like to transfer an existing phone number, follow Step2b: HINT:Before proceeding, please make sure you are in an area of sufficient coverage. You should see one or more bars next to the 1X (or 1XEV) icon. transferring an Existing Phone Number Step2b: to Your BlackBerry Smartphone (Optional) This step is relevant if you have an existing phone number that you would like to move to your BlackBerry smartphone. If you want to transfer an existing phone number, please review the instructions below and have your documentation ready before calling Cbeyond Customer Support at 1-866-424-5100 Monday through Friday. Note A Number Port typically takes 2 to 5 hours to complete if all the information supplied is correct. Incorrect or incomplete information can delay the transfer process. Incomplete information can delay the process up to 24 hours. You will need a copy of your Current service provider s bill to verify the exact information listed below: The name of your current service provider. The current, active phone number that you wish to transfer. The account number of your current service as it appears on your bill. Your name and address exactly as they each appear on your bill. A telephone number where you can be reached during the transfer process. The account password for your current service. Your Social Security number, tax identification number, or other information that your current service provider can use to identify you. Note Do not cancel your existing phone service until you have received confirmation from Cbeyond that your transfer has been completed. If you are transferring your existing mobile number over to Cbeyond, you should maintain access to both your old phone and your new Cbeyond phone until the transfer is complete. You may not be able to immediately receive calls on your new phone until the transfer process is complete (this includes return calls from 911 personnel). (strongly recommended) You should call your previous provider once you have confirmation from Cbeyond that your transfer is complete and you have successfully made and received phone calls from your BlackBerry smartphone. Confirm they have terminated your account and request a final bill. This step may save you from potential billing disputes with your previous provider. 4

You may need the following information from your email provider: Domain, Server type, Account Name, Incoming mail server, SSL connection requirements, and Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to complete the setup. If your company has standardized on communication and collaboration server-side software such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino or Novell GroupWise you can configure the BlackBerry smartphone to use an optional BlackBerry Enterprise Server (software upgrade required). The BlackBerry Enterprise Server has many advantages over the BlackBerry Internet Service including over-the-air (OTA) wireless synchronization. That way, your email, calendar, tasks, and notes will synchronize wirelessly without need for the USB cable. Note If your company is using Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino or Novell GroupWise, please contact your IT administrator before attempting to configure your your BlackBerry smartphone's data service. If you are your company s IT Administrator, and you are setting up the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, please call Customer Support at 1-866-424-5100 to finalize the configuration. blackberry internet service The BlackBerry Internet Service is useful because you can configure it to pull from up to 10 different email accounts/isps (some restrictions apply) allowing your BlackBerry smartphone to send and receive email from multiple sources (for example, business email and personal email). If you decide to answer the new incoming call, you can return to your original call by clicking the trackball and selecting Flash. As long as both callers remain on the line, you can continue using the Flash command to toggle back and forth between callers. Using 3-Way Calling To initiate a 3-way call from the home screen, Click the call log icon. Typically, only mobile phones are capable of receiving SMS messages so you will want to verify the device type of the recipient before sending. Using PIN-to-PIN Messaging PIN-to-PIN is a unique messaging feature of the BlackBerry smartphone that allows you to send messages (without the character length limits found using SMS) directly to another BlackBerry smartphone user. It is sort of like an Instant Message that works only with the BlackBerry smartphone. This unique feature allows you to verify that the message was received by the recipient s device as your inbox will show the sent message with a check next to it and once the recipient s handheld acknowledges receipt, a small D (for Delivered) will appear near the check mark. Note It is a good idea to collect the PIN numbers of the BlackBerry smartphones that you would like to PIN-to-PIN message and then pre-program into your device prior to sending the PIN message. Use your address book, select a contact name and then select PIN by pressing the trackball and selecting from the menu options. Then type your message and click the trackball and select Send.
