Model DRVT40/43/35 VCR DVD digital TV recorder Fault 1. Machine locks up when recording or when the Menu button pressed Cure Replaced DVD loader 2. Machine locks up when copying VCR to DVD Replaced Main Manual board Note from Colin T (after extensive tests I believe the locking up problem is caused by the MPEG board fitted under the DVD loader) Please note IT HAS NOW BEEN ESTABLISHED THAT THE LOCK OUT PROBLEM IS DUE TO PROBLEM FIRMWARE IN THE SAMSUNG DDR IN THE MPEG BOARD A SOFTWARE UPDATE CD IS NOW AVAILABLE TO CURE THE PROBLEM 3. What is the REGION FREE code for this machine Push set-up button on the remote control Select system information on the menu Put 1101 on the remote, region code will show. Press 0 for region free Press set-up key to exit. 4. Not taking in tape and turning off. Stripped and realigned mechanism. 5. SP/LP switching on its own Sounds like everyone using Helium to talk. Replaced VCR deck (The fault is actually due to the AC head not picking up the control pulses off the bottom of the tape so a slight adjustment of the black screw behind the AC head cures the problem) 6. DVD stuck in machine and making a grinding noise. Resoldered P822 and realigned loading mechanism 7. Freezing whilst playing DVD s and freezing on Freeview. Replaced DVD loader. Note from Colin T: I don t see the connection of freezing whilst playing DVD s and the Freeview freezing! I feel the freezing whilst playing DVD s is due to a faulty MPEG board under the DVD loader but the freezing on Freeview could be associated with poor reception. 8. Reported fault - freezes and locks up at least once per day. The engineer stated that he resoldered connections in the power supply and remote receiver sensor. Note from Colin T : I don t believe the unit had dry joints as this product seems to have inherent problems causing it to lock up. I feel the problem is more likely to be a
fault on the MPEG board because of the extensive tests I have conducted on these machines when playing or conducting recordings. 9. Can t copy some of the VCR s. Cannot copy macro tapes. Message appears saying Media cannot be recorded although has copied before. 10. Not Playing anything. Reset system control. 11. Keeps cutting out and VCR gets stuck half way. Refitted PC601 in Freeview PCB 12. No picture on VCR only sound Replaced Main PCB 13. Machine will not record Reset system control. 14. Keeps freezing Rest to factory settings. 15. Unable to tune Reflowed digital EEPROMS 16. Distorted sound on VCR playback Sounds like chipmunks Replaced VCR deck (Note, the fault is actually the same as reported in number 5 above) 17. No HDMI output Problem with the MPEG board 18. No VCR playback DVD P/B ok Again it is a problem with the MPEG board. 19. Won t record Replaced main board 20. Poor VCR playback Resoldered flash memory I/C 21. Keeps freezing when playing back Not holding down record button long enough to set times. No fault found with the freezing issue. Note from Colin Thompson: I believe there is some sort of software problem with this model and you have to keep rebooting the product to stop it from freezing. 22. Making arcing noise. Replaced Hard Drive.
23. Keeps locking up Engineer reported replacing the STB PCB cured the fault, however see fault number 8, this fault is caused by the MPEG board. 24. No playback. Engineer replaced diode in power supply. (What diode?) 25. Keeps locking out Repaired faulty SCART socket bad contact internally. 25. Keeps locking out Replaced VCR mechanism. Not known why the engineer replaced the VCR mechanism to cure this locking out problem when it is normally caused by FIRMWARE PROBLEM IN SAMSUNG DDR 26) Keeps freezing during playback Resoldered dry joints on the digital board. (Where were these dry joints?) 27) Keeps locking out. Set up factory default 28) Will not record Reflowed Z004 29) Cutting out when recording Replaced power PCB 30) Remote control not functioning Dry joint in D824 Not known what D824 has to do with remote malfunction so this may not be correct. 31) Will not eject. Serviced mode switch.!!! 32) Channels keep freezing. Replaced DVD loader which includes the MPEG board.
33) VCR not going in properly and clicking noise. Resoldered dry joints on D823 in PSU 34) Will not record. Software setup and reset 35) Keeps locking out Reset micro processor 36) Will not copy from VCR to DVD Rest system control. 37) YOU HAVE TO PRESS THE COPY BUTTON ON THE FRONT OF THE MACHINE TWICE WHEN COPYING FROM VHS TO DVD YET THE INSTRUCTION BOOK SAYS PRESS IT ONCE, THE INSTRUCTION BOOK IS WRONG 38) VCR stuck in machine Resoldered dry joints on P601 on Digital board. 39) Cannot remove parental control. Reset to factory Default set menus pin number now 1234 40) Poor pictures. Located and repaired misaligned SCART socket to the rear. 41) VCR poor picture and will not track. Firmware updated. 42) Poor playback on recordings from VHS to DVD. Realigned Pinch roller. 43) No sound on recordings. Replaced DVD loader/mpeg board. 44) Will not eject the VCR tape or play or rewind. Resoldered micro and mode switch connector. Note from CT: this may be the Lock up fault because of the VCR tape not ejecting and not playing or rewinding and probably not responding to the remote at all. 45) When powered up VCR Head drum rotates as it should for a few seconds, then the capstan motor revolves, then the DVD spin motor rotates, then a channel appears for a few seconds, then the screen goes blue and the OSD says SCART No signal. After this the machine cannot be made to do anything else. The fault was caused by the VCR deck jammed on the fully loaded position and the tape stuck in the machine. When the deck was stripped down and realigned the product worked for a while and then reproduced the blue screen and again could do nothing with the product. This time the problem proved to be a faulty main board which sits underneath the VCR deck so it is suspected that it was damaged when the mech jammed.
46) Can copy from VCR to DVD but not DVD to VCR Faulty button movement on front panel 47) Intermittently the screen goes blank with a pink hue. Faulty tuner board. 48) Cant change channels. Faulty tuner board. 49) Poor VCR playback and making noise. Replaced the complete video deck because the Clutch and pinch roller had failed causing damage to the tapes. 50) Dead Replaced Diode type SR306, circuit reference D823 in Power supply part number DSR306E20 51) No power. Resoldered Output I/C 52) Unable to tune Advised FREVIEW available in the area. 53) Blue screen nothing works. Replaced main board. 54) No power Q822 in PSU burnt up 55) Picture goes green with a blank raster Replaced faulty tuner board after about five mins. 56) Int. picture goes pink with a blank raster. Replaced faulty Tuner board. 57) Wont allow you to change channels Replaced faulty Tuner board. 58)PLEASE NOTE If you put lock on a DVD the second the lock operation finishes and the yellow bar has travelled fully to the right, the machine locks up and none of the remote control buttons work until you do a mains reset, then the machine works ok. 59) It seems that if you play a pre recorded VD that is 3 hours long the machine starts to play slow for the last 10 mins. This occurs on all three models. 60) Tapes getting stuck in. Realigned cassette loading mech. 61) Keeps locking out. Has had upgrade. Replaced main board. 62) Camcorder wont work via DV input Advised replacing the main board replaced front PCB and MPEG board. Camcorder works ok on another manufacturers machine.
63) No colour when playing back a Replaced faulty tuner board. recording made on a Tape but ok on a DVD recording and ok on E to E 64) Making funny noise and playback Replaced Tuner PCB and DVD loader. and record intermittent on DVD and no playback on VCR. 65) No Playback. The problem was because the customer had not read the menu correctly. So customer education required. 66) Recording in slow motion on the DVD. Engineer reported replacing the DVD loader but not known how the DVD can record slowly 67) Keeps freezing when finalising discs. Service agent replaced the DVD loader and PSU and carried out software upgrade. Note from Colin Thompson.: Tests on these machines prove that they all lock up after finalising DVD s. See technical bulletin about this. 68) Recorder not responding to remote will only switch ON and OFF. Replaced PSU and Main board 69) Not recognising some DVD s will not load software update and still freezing and losing EPG sometimes. Firmware upgraded customer unable to perform this task. 70) When machine powered up the head drum rotates and the VCR cassette loader moves in and out and you can scan stations and load a DVD it will start to play then stop. Leaving a blank screen then if you eject the disc and insert a tape you cant play it or eject it. The fault proved to be on the Main board 70) During VCR playback the picture Replaced faulty pinch roller. quality deteriorates in the centre and then a tracking bar travels down the screen. Then the picture returns to normal. this happens at regular intervals about every 5 seconds. 71) The picture on the monitor TV is all cramped up towards the top but on the rest of the screen below the main picture it is just grey vertical lines right across the screen. This fault was eventually traced to a fault on the monitor rather than the DRVT43 being tested. The monitor TV had been ok all day but had just developed this fault.
