Student Registration 1. Click Tools from Course Menu then TurningPoint Registration Tool. Note: You may also elect to add a direct link to the Registration Tool if you are familiar with customizing the Course Menu. 2. Click TurningPoint Registration Tool. 3. TurningPoint AnyWhere 3.0 with Integrate ResultsManager Startup Screen The Startup Screen This is the first screen you will see once you launch AnyWhere. 1. Clicking Poll takes you into the standard polling bar as appears in AnyWhere 2.4 2. Change the Receiver Channel. 3. Quickly Access Settings area. 1. Clicking Polling Assistant allows users to: a. Load a Question List b. Select an existing or Import a Participant List c. Connect Session Data with Existing Results Manager Course Using the Polling Assistant is the best method for starting a polling sessions since users are prompted to select a Participant List and to integrate the session data into Results Manager. 5/12/2011 4
2. Clicking the Headings just below Create & Manage (submenus are not displayed in screenshot) allows users to do various things. Some of the key items are: a. Participants >> Import an LMS List b. TurningPoint AnyWhere Settings This handouts covers provides steps for modifying key settings of the Turning Point Application. These settings can be set prior to class if you will be using your own jump drive to run the program. These settings will be saved so that you do not have to change them unless you choose to. Note: The Menu Buttons the Yellow Down Arrow. 1. From the Launchpad, click Settings in the right bottom corner. or 2. Click Main Menu arrow at bottom of Polling Bar choose Tools >>Settings. Miscellaneous Application Settings 1. Countdown Duration. 2. Correct Point Value. 3. Incorrect Point Value. 4. Default Quick Poll Answers: Sets the number of standard answer choices for each question. For example setting this to 4 means standard answer choices will be A, B, C, D. July 28, 2011 6

Polling Test 1. This utility allows you to check student clickers to be sure that their answers are being captured. 2. Click Start to begin the test. Have students press any response. If a student s Device ID does not display, have them hit the Back button to be sure they are on the Home Screen. Also have them check their Channel. 3. Click Done to save all Settings. Import From LMS 1. Open Polling Assistant. 2. Click Import from LMS. 3. Choose Blackboard from Manage System dropdown. 4. Enter Server URL: https://blackboard.ecu.edu 5. Enter ECU Username. 6. Enter ECU Password. 7. Optional: Check Save this information, which saves Username only. August 8, 2011 9
8. Select Import Participant List. 9. Select Blackboard Course. 10. Save the List. By default list are saved using time and date stamps. Notes: Be sure to save the List to a location that can be accessed during class. For example, Piratedrive or thumb drive. List can be downloaded multiple times as needed. August 8, 2011 10
Using Polling Assistant to Ask Questions 1. Plug in Receiver. 2. Plug in thumb drive or navigate to network drive. 3. Start TurningPoint Anywhere. 4. Click Polling Assistant. 5. Choose couse Participant List 6. Choose ResultsManager course to automatically add session data to existing ResultsManager Course. Note: ResutlsManager course option wll not display until the course has been set up in Results Manager. 7. Open file that contains your questions. 8. Click Play to start polling. 9. 10. Right Click on the answer option to mark correct. Note: You can do this later if you forget. 11. Close Chart or click Play to continue asking questions. Show Correct Answer Indicator 12. Save Session from the Main Menu. If you attempt to close without saving you will be prompted two addition times. Default save location is the Session Folder inside the TurningPoint AnyWhere folder. Working with Session Data Saving Sessions 1 Click the Main Menu button (down arrow) on the showbar. 2 Mouse over Session and select Save Session. A Windows Dialog Box opens to the default save location specified in the TurningPoint AnyWhere Settings. The default session name is a date and time stamp. 3 Name the file and click Save. Editing Questions and Answers in the Session Viewer The Session Viewer is a real-time session editor. Through the Session Viewer you can add question and answer text to polled questions. 1 Click the Main Menu button (down arrow) on the showbar. 2 Mouse over Session and select Session Viewer. If the desired session is not currently loaded, mouse over Session and select Continue Prior Session. Select the session to be edited before entering the Session Viewer. 3 While on the Questions tab, click on the question you would like to edit. 4 On the right, change the question text, answer text, correct answer, and/or correct/incorrect point value. 5 While on the Participants tab, click on the individual response device you would like to edit. Add participant information or any other data desired. 6 Close the window when finished, and save the session to retain the changes. 13
Chapter 9: Reports Reports TurningPoint AnyWhere provides you with two different reporting options: HTML Reports Screenshots HTML Reports How to Generate a Report 1 Click the Main Menu button ( down arrow) on the showbar. 2 Mouse over Tools and select Reports. In the left panel TurningPoint AnyWhere displays a list of the saved session files and the current session file. If the session file you wish to generate a report from, is not listed, click Load Session and browse to the saved session file. The file will now be listed under Saved Sessions. 3 Select a session in the left panel. 4 From the Available Reports drop-down menu, select the desired report. Report Individual Results Individual Score Results by Question Results by Question with Screenshots Description Displays the participant response for each question, along with the question text. Chapter 9: Reports Report Individual Standards Overall Standards Description Displays the question and answer text along with the standard assigned to the question. All results are grouped by participant Displays the standards and the question and answer text, along with the overall responses of the participants. Check the box labeled Show All Participant Fields to display all fields in the participant list. Uncheck the box to display only the device IDs in the report. 5 Click Print to print a hard copy of the reports. The Window Print Options appear. Click Print again, to print the report. To save the report follow How to Save a Report on page 44. How to Save a Report 1 Follow steps 1-4 of How to Generate a Report on page 43. 2 Click Save. 3 Select Save as HTML or Save as CSV. The HTML file will open in your web browser. The CSV file will open in Microsoft Excel. A CSV is a text only file. 4 Specify the save location and name the file. 5 Click Save. 15
Chapter 9: Reports Screenshots How to Extract Screenshots Before You Begin To extract screenshots from a session file, Include Screenshots in the General Settings, must be set to True before you started the session. 1 Click the Main Menu button (down arrow) on the showbar. 2 Mouse over Tools and select Extract Screenshots. 3 Click Browse... to select a session file. 4 Click Browse... to select a destination folder for the screenshots. 5 Click Extract. 6 Click OK on the confirmation window. 7 Click Close or repeat steps 3-6 to extract screenshots from more session files. Note TurningPoint AnyWhere creates a folder within the destination folder named Images From [Session Name]. A screenshot from each poll in the session is now saved here. 16
Exporting from a Learning Management System LMS Integration Support At the current time, it is possible to export Session information when using Blackboard, WebCT 6/Vista Editions, Sakai, and Moodle in to the LMS grade book. When using these you will need the proper Integration installed by the LMS Administrator. The Integration files can be found on our website in the Downloads section. Exporting Session Data 1. Select Integrations from the Tools menu. (Window menu on the Mac.) 2. Select the desired LMS from the drop down menu. 3. Type in the server web address. 4. Click Next. 17
5. Type the LMS User Name and Password. 6. Click Next. 7. Select Export Grades/Email Student Grades and click Next. 8. Select the course to export to and click Next. 18
9. Select the Session to be uploaded. Note: The Current Session or Saved Sessions can be selected. 10. By selecting the appropriate checkbox: 1. Non Responders can be excluded from the export. -If left unchecked those students with no data would receive a grade of 0. 2. Student grades can be exported to the grade book by entering a Assignment name for the grade book header and a maximum number of points available. 3. If grades are sent to the grade book, an email can be sent to the students letting them know their results. 11. Click Finish. 12. Click OK when the data is Exported successfully. 19
