15. How many OPC drivers can I use simultaneously on the PanelMate epro ES? You can use 2 OPC drivers simultaneously on the PanelMate epro ES. 16. What Industrial Network interface cards can I use with the PanelMate epro ES? All PanelMate epro ES units come with an Ethernet 10Base-T port and 2 physical (3 logical) serial ports (2 RS232 and 1 RS485) connections for communications. High-speed network interface cards (NICs) such as Modbus Plus and Data Highway Plus are not supported by the PanelMate epro ES. All PanelMate epro ES communications are done using the provided KEPServer_ePro OPC servers/drivers for either serial or Ethernet protocols. Virtually all PLC s that communicate on Modbus Plus or Data Highway + networks can also be accessed through their local serial ports so a simple RS232 or RS485 connection is available for epro ES communications. If you need to network to multiple PLC s in this case, you can use a serial to Ethernet converter at each PLC s serial port and create a local Ethernet network. Then use the KEPServer_ePro Allen Bradley or Modicon serial drivers with Ethernet encapsulation enabled to communicate to the epro ES via that local Ethernet network. There are a number of suppliers of low cost serial to Ethernet converters (Digi, Lantronix, Sixnet, etc.) and because the KEPServer_ePro driver performs Ethernet encapsulation of the serial protocol you can use the simple converter models rather than the more expensive models that would otherwise be required to perform protocol conversion. In most cases the extra cost of an Ethernet switch and cabling will be more than offset by the savings of the serial to Ethernet converter over the cost of a proprietary Modbus Plus or DH+ network adapter for each epro ES unit. 17. Can I communicate to an Allen Bradley PLC using DH-485? Yes, but you must go through a RS232 to DH-485 converter such as the Allen Bradley K3 module. This is different from a commercially available RS232 to RS485 converter since the K3 module also performs protocol conversion from serial DF1 to DH-485. 18. Can I develop and/or edit epro Canvas data on the PanelMate epro ES? No. The epro Canvas development software runs on a computer with Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 Operating Systems and does not run on the PanelMate epro ES. 19. Can I run 3 rd party software (not supplied by the OI Business) on the PanelMate epro ES? No. Only applications developed by the epro Canvas software and the PanelMate epro ES Runtime software and provided KEPServer_ePro OPC servers/drivers can be used on the PanelMate epro ES. 20. How many pages can I have in an epro ES configuration? There is no fixed limit to the number of pages built using the epro Canvas software. Can I remove or insert the CompactFlash memory card while the 7475T-6 is running? No. The CompactFlash memory card should not be removed or inserted while the 7475T-6 is running. The unit should be turned off before removing or inserting the CompactFlash memory card in order to protect the integrity of the CompactFlash. 26. What happens if I remove the CompactFlash memory card from one epro ES unit and insert it in another epro ES? The CompactFlash memory card is used to store the PanelMate epro ES runtime software, OPC server/drivers and application files. The files will move with the CompactFlash memory card. Some hardware specific information is also stored on the CompactFlash memory card which may require adjustment when placed in another unit. 27. What Operating System is used on the PanelMate epro ES? File transfers are done by using a CompactFlash reader or over Ethernet by using the epro Canvas Send to File feature. 33. Why don t I see my PanelMate epro ES unit when I browse the network computers? The Windows CE.net Operating System does not allow other computers to locate the PanelMate epro ES when browsing the network. On the other hand, when browsing from Windows Explorer on the PanelMate epro ES other computers can be seen. This is a current limitation of CE.net. 34. Why is there an access plate on the back of my PanelMate epro ES 7475T-6 unit? There is no need for you to remove the access plate on the back of the PanelMate 7475T-6 unit. This feature is for the use of authorized technicians only. Page 4 of 5 OI Business PanelMate epro ES FAQs PA04802011E
