Installation Guide ew Downlight SM An EssentialWhite Product ew Downlight SM Powercore is a low-profile, surface-mounted downlight for basic white illumination. The ew Downlight SM Powercore fixture is ideally suited for lobbies, corridors, elevators, conference rooms, common spaces, kitchenettes, and interiors in commercial, hospitality, retail, and residential environments. It is especially appropriate for applications where recessed installation in cement or in an area with limited space is not possible, or where such a design element is desired. Two color temperatures: 2700 K or 4000 K Four available voltages: 100 VAC, 120 VAC, 230 VAC, or 277 VAC (all 50/60 Hz) Two beam angle options: - 30º for spot applications, high ceilings, or focusing a spot on an area or object - 65º for flood applications and low-ceiling environments such as corridors Metal bezel available in white, black, or brushed aluminum Custom bezel colors available Swivel bracket for 120 and 277 VAC units allows precise adjustment during installation
Scope Of This Guide 2 Scope Of This Guide The ew Downlight SM product line includes, and this installation guide covers, these products: ew Downlight SM Item Numbers One complete fixture comprises three components: one power module, one lamp module, and one trim bezel. When you order ew Downlight SM fixtures, specify all three components. Each component is shipped separately. FIXTURES MUST BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE US NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE AND RELEVANT LOCAL CODES AND REGULATIONS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL OR USE A FIXTURE UNTIL YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY LABELS. 2. Inspect The Fixtures Carefully inspect the cartons and boxes containing the ew Downlight SM modules and the fixtures themselves for any damage that may have occurred in transit. DO NOT USE A FIXTURE IF THE LENS, HOUSING, OR POWER CABLES ARE DAMAGED. FIXTURES HAVE LINE VOLTAGE RISK OF SHOCK AND NO USER SERVICEABLE PARTS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN THEM. FIXTURES MUST BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL RELEVANT CODES AND REGULATIONS. Figure 1: Downlight Packaging The ew Downlight SM is delivered in three boxes. Box 1 contains the power module. Box 2contains the lamp module, and box 3contains the trim bezel. 3. Assemble Additional Items To wire and mount an ew Downlight SM fixture, you will need: General tools such as a drill, screwdriver, level, measuring tools, etc., to secure the fixtures. Electrical tools and supplies such as wire cutters, insulation strippers, and wire nuts to connect the flying leads to a line circuit. www.colorkinetics.com
3 ew Downlight SM Installation Guide 4. Install the Power Module Install ew Downlight SM fixtures just as you would any other linevoltage fixture. A standard 4 junction box is the recommended mounting base, but in areas where one is not required by code, direct mounting is acceptable. ENSURE THAT THE MAIN POWER SUPPLY IS OFF BEFORE INSTALLING OR WIRING A FIXTURE. 1. 120 and 277 VAC Only To make fine alignment adjustments to the fixture, mount the optional swivel bracket from box 1 in the junction box. Use two screws to attach it to two of the junction box tabs. Allow.125 for flush mounting. 2. Connect the line, neutral, and ground flying leads from the power module/mounting plate to the line connection. Thread the wiring through the swivel bracket (if used). See the detail drawings for 100 VAC, 120/277 VAC, and 230 VAC, in Figures 3, 4, and 5. 120 and 277 VAC 110 or 230 VAC or Figure 2: ew Downlight SM Assembly. The three components of the ew Downlight SM are assembled in order. First, the power module is wired and mounted. Second, the light module is connected to the ballast and attached with two captive screws. Third, the trim bezel snaps on. See Figures 3 5 for wiring details. Assemble Additional Items 4 3. Attach the power module from box 1. For 100 VAC, attach it directly to the junction box with two screws. For 120 and 277 VAC, attach the module either to the junction box or to the optional swivel bracket with two screws through the keyed slots in the mounting plate. 5 ew Downlight SM Installation Guide For 230 VAC, attach the power module either directly to the mounting surface with four screws or appropriate fasteners, or to a junction box (if used) with two screws. Figure 5: 230 VAC Detail. A junction box is optional. If a junction box is not used, attach the mounting plate with four sewers, one in each corner of the mounting plate. 5. Attach the Lamp Module and Bezel 1. The light module from box 2 fits directly onto the installed power module. Attach the wiring connector from the power module. Then secure the ballast with the two captive screws. 2. Snap the bezel from box 3 to the ballast and heat sink assembly. 3. Energize the circuit to test the installation. DO NOT HOT SWAP LIGHT MODULES! ENSURE THAT THE MAIN POWER SUPPLY IS OFF BEFORE ATTACHING THE LIGHT MODULE TO THE POWER MODULE. Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions, Inc.
