For instance, you could communicate to an AB Remote I/O network with an AcceleratI/On interface while communicating using AB serial, Modbus serial or any other driver serial protocol through one of the two serial ports. (This feature is not an option for the PanelMate Power Series 1700 because it comes standard in the PanelMate Power Series 1700. Catalog number 0721 still exists which is an option for the PanelMate Power Series 2000-5000) 6. What is the page and message capacity of the PanelMate Power Series 1700? The PanelMate Power Series 1700 supports up to 100 pages and up to 5000 messages. This is the same as in the PanelMate Power Series 2000-5000. 7. What transfer cable do I use? Use the exact same transfer cable as the PanelMate Power Series 2000-5000, catalog number 0518. 8. Are there trade-up programs to go to the PanelMate Power Series 1700 Yes, a trade-up program is available. PanelMate Power Series 1500 and PanelMate Power Series 2000 units can be traded in for a PanelMate Power Series 1785T or 1785K model at a $1000 discount. If a PanelMate Power Series 2000 is being traded in, an adapter collar will be included at no additional charge. Note: other trade-in models include any Cutler-Hammer operator interface products or any comparable competitive products. 9. What PLC communication cabling is required for the PanelMate Power Series 1700 and where is this documented? For RS-232 serial and fieldbus interfaces (DeviceNet, AB DH/DH+/RIO, Modbus Plus, GE Genius I/O and Profibus) the cabling and connector are identical to the PanelMate Power Series 2000-5000 product models. For RS- 422 and RS-485 serial interfaces, new cables are required due to the addition of optical isolation on the serial ports of the PanelMate Power Series 1700. 10. Is the cutout for the PanelMate Power Series 1700 the same as the PanelMate Power Series 1500? The 2000? The PanelMate Power Series 1700 panel cutout is identical to the PanelMate Power Series 1500 for both touchscreen and TouchPanel models. When replacing a PanelMate Power Series 2000 with a PanelMate Power Series 1700 the PanelMate Power Series 2000 cutout may need to be widened and a mounting adapter collar is needed for mounting the PanelMate Power Series 1700. The Cutler-Hammer catalog numbers for the mounting adapter collars are: DESCRIPTION CATALOG # 24xx TouchPanel to 1500/1700 TouchPanel 1524TP 26xx/27xx TouchPanel to 1500/1700 TouchPanel 1527TP 26xx/27xx Touchscreen to 1500/1700 Touchscreen 1527TS 24xx TouchPanel to 1500/1700 Touchscreen 1524TPTS 26xx/27xx TouchPanel to 1500/1700 Touchscreen 1527TPTS Note that the PanelMate Compact is the same size as a 24xx TouchPanel unit. 11. What is the power draw of the PanelMate Power Series 1700? The power requirements of the PanelMate Power Series 1700 are slightly more than that of the PanelMate Power Series 1500. See the table below for a detailed comparison. Model 1500 current 1700 current 1500 power 1700 power Grayscale 0.5 amps 0.8 amps 12 watts 17 watts LCD/color dual scan Color TFT 0.6 amps 1.1 amps 14 watts 23 watts Add for direct connect card 0.2 amps 0.2 amps 3-4 watts 3-4 watts 12. How does the in-rush current on the PanelMate Power Series 1700 compare to the PanelMate Power Series 1500? The in-rush current is significantly less on the PanelMate Power Series 1700 due to board design changes made to specifically limit this initial in-rush stress. The in-rush current maximum is 5 amps on the PanelMate Power Series 1700 as compared to 35 amps with the PanelMate Power Series 1500.

13. Can I use my PanelMate Power Series 1500 power supply with the PanelMate Power Series 1700? No, the existing PanelMate Power Series 1500 power supplies (#1216 & #1219) are underrated for the PanelMate Power Series 1700. A new power supply, catalog number 1219A, has been added for the PanelMate Power Series 1700. 14. Can I use the same fieldbus interfaces in the PanelMate Power Series 1700 as the ones used in the PanelMate Power Series 1500? Yes, the fieldbus interfaces used with the PanelMate Power Series 1500 can also be used with the PanelMate Power Series 1700. No changes are required. All of the interfaces available for the PanelMate Power Series 1500 are also available for the PanelMate Power Series 1700 (DeviceNet, AB DH/DH+/RIO, Modbus Plus, GE Genius I/O and Profibus). 15. Will documentation be released to the Internet site at the time of release? Yes. All.pdf files for all the manuals, spec sheets, etc. will be posted to the Internet and Intranet/Extranet sites at the time of product release. 16. How much faster is the PanelMate Power Series 1700 compared to the PanelMate Power Series 1500? Initial testing shows the PanelMate Power Series 1700 performance, display draw time, communications update time, response to operator pushbutton or numeric entry, etc. to be at least as good as the PanelMate Power Series 2000-5000 which is on average over three times the comparable performance of the PanelMate Power Series 1500. 17. How do I terminate RS-422 and RS-485 networks on the PanelMate Power Series 1700 unit? (Is it like the PanelMate Power Series 1500 or the PanelMate Power Series 2000?) Termination of RS-422/485 networks is accomplished via a rotary selector switch adjacent to each serial port on the PanelMate Power Series 1700. Both the PanelMate Power Series 1500 and PanelMate Power Series 2000-5000 models required jumpers to be added in the cable connector itself to enable internal termination resistance. The PanelMate Power Series 1700 is much easier in this regard. 18. What is the default setting for port termination? As shipped from the factory, the default setting is for no termination (default for RS-232).

19. Is the power supply isolated? If not, why? No, this is not required in a DC powered system. 20. Can both the PanelMate Power Series 1700 serial ports support RS-422/485 or only port 1 as on the PanelMate Power Series 1500? Both serial ports on the PanelMate Power Series 1700 can support RS- 422/485 serial communications. 21. What agency approvals and what NEMA ratings do the PanelMate Power Series 1700 carry? The PanelMate Power Series 1700 carries UL, cul, CSA, CE, UL Class I Div 2, Groups A, B, C & D, CSA Class I Div 2, Groups A, B, C & D, NEMA 4/4X and NEMA 12 ratings. 22. What display and input selection does the PanelMate Power Series 1700 have? Display choices are grayscale LCD (256 shades), color dual-scan (256 color), and color TFT (256 color with 300 nit brightness!). User input options include touchscreen and TouchPanel models. 23. Do I have the same contrast adjustment capabilities on the grayscale LCD and color dual-scan units as in the PanelMate Power Series 1500? Yes, the PanelMate Power Series 1700 grayscale LCD and color dual-scan both have manual contrast adjustment available. However, they also have automatic thermal compensation of contrast that greatly reduces the need for manual contrast adjustment. This is not only a first for PanelMate; it is a first in our industry. 24. What are the benefits of optically isolated serial ports? A tech note is forthcoming that goes into greater detail than is shown here, but a few of the benefits are: Greater immunity to ground differential gives greater communication stability (fewer random communication errors) Large ground potential differences between devices on the same communication network, commonly found in industrial environments, will not damage the serial ports. The optically isolated ports will withstand voltages up to 1500V versus about 30V for the PanelMate Power Series 1500.
