Functional Enhancements & Usability Improvements (V8.2.0 V8.2.2) 1

Functional Enhancements & Usability Improvements (V8.2.0 V8.2.2) Overview Functional Enhancements Files, Formats and Data Types Usability Improvements Version History 2

Functional Enhancements & Usability Improvements (V8.2.0 V8.2.2) Overview Functional Enhancements Combined usage of MDA and EHANDBOOK NAVIGATOR (V8.2.0 & V8.2.2) Get quickly a complete list of all status changes for a Boolean signal (V8.2.0) Provide a description for your configuration (V8.2.0) Quick visual check whether data is within defined limits (V8.2.0) Better support in case signals are of unexpected nature (V8.2.0) Quick access to statistical information for a signal in a selected time range (V8.2.1) More details about a signal ( CTRL+I ) (V8.2.1 & V8.2.2) Easier cursors handling ( anchored mode) (V8.2.2) Synchronized cursors across oscilloscopes (V8.2.2) Files, Formats and Data Types Usability Improvements Version History 3

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.0 & V8.2.2) Better understanding of system behavior by combined usage of MDA and EHANDBOOK-NAVIGATOR From MDA 8 ribbon interactive documentation tool EHANDBOOK-NAVIGATOR can be opened In an intermediate dialog measure file, and documentation container (*.ehb ) are selected Display of measure data can be activated in EHANDBOOK-NAVIGATOR (V5.1 or higher) Starting with MDA V8.2.0 cursor time can be sent to EHB-NAV to focus on the same point in time With MDA V8.2.2 signal documentation in EHB-NAV V6.0 can be opened directly 4

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.0) Get quickly a complete list of all status changes for a Boolean signal For analysis it is often requested to detect changes from True to False or vice versa MDA V8.2.0 introduces new instrument named Event List Any Boolean signal can be used, either a recorded Boolean signal, or a calculated signal which results in a True / False condition The Boolean signal is added directly to the Event List instrument, and only time stamps having a status change are listed plus the kind of edge 1. Definition of a condition Outlook Enable navigation along found events, i.e. synchronized view in an oscilloscope depending on selected event list entry 2. Drag&Drop Signal to Event List (Oscilloscope view for reference) 5

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.0) Provide a description for your configuration With MDA V8.2.0 a comment field for a description of the configuration is available It allows free text of up to 10,000 characters The description is stored in the configuration (*.xdx), this means it is available directly when loading or changing the configuration Via CTRL+I the Information Window is opened Like any other docking window it can be positioned as desired, so that it can remain visible as long as it is needed 6

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.0) Quick visual check whether data is within defined limits In scatter plot representation additionally to the data samples, bounds can be visualized Bounds can be lines or polygons Bounds can be created easily in a graphical manner using the mouse Outlook Enable editing and precise positioning of bound points Extend usage of bounds also in other instruments e.g. oscilloscope 7

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.0) Better support in case signals are of unexpected nature In case MDA detects for a signal that the information is not consistent a warning or even error indication is given Error: the signal can not be used, i.e. does not provide values Warning: signal values might be unreliable The indication is shown along the signal name wherever the signal name appears A tooltip on the warning resp. error icon is available to provide (in future) more detailed information for the user 8

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.1) Quick access to statistical information for a signal in a selected time range Starting with MDA V8.2.1, a new instrument for Statistical Data is available Input signals must be numeric, and can be recorded or calculated ones Data is calculated based on the time range set in the Time Slider Bar Synchronization of the time range with other instruments is possible Setting to define which columns shall be shown (i.e. Min, Max, Average) Decimals can be set per signal Outlook: Further statistical data like standard deviation, number of samples 9

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.1 & V8.2.2) More details about a signal ( CTRL+I ) and copy signal name to clipboard ( CTRL+C ) Detailed meta-information of a selected signal is displayed in the Information Window by means of CTRL+I CTRL+I can be used from the Configuration Manager (V8.2.1) Table and Statistics Data instruments (V8.2.1) directly in Oscilloscope and Scatter Plot (V8.2.2) When switching to another signal, the information in the Information Window is updated automatically for the new signal Contents shown in the Information Window can be copied (CTRL+C) Signal names itself can be copied to Windows clipboard from any instrument and the Configuration Manager (V8.2.2) Outlook: Support of CTRL+I from Signal Explorer, and Calc. Signals formula editor Display further meta information like computation method 10

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.2) Easier cursor handling To facilitate cursor handling, behavior of CTRL+R was reworked: Repetitive usage of CTRL+R first creates one cursor, then a second one, and finally removes both In case a cursor is outside the visible range, CTRL+R creates a visible cursor To avoid overlapping, cursors default positions are changed to 33% resp. 67% of graphical area For keeping a cursor always in the visible range a new mode called anchored is introduced In anchored mode a cursor remains at the defined screen position when scrolling or zooming Anchored mode can be set by clicking onto cursor head Last used mode is default for next created cursor 11

Functional Enhancements (V8.2.2) Cursor synchronization across oscilloscopes Synchronization of instruments in MDA V8.2.2 includes synchronization of cursors as well When starting synchronization either a new cursor is created or the active cursor is used to define the synchronization time Besides selected time range the master instrument also communicates the synchronization time to all instruments If possible a slave instrument displays the same time range (like oscilloscope, scatter plot and statistics), and optionally the synchronization cursor (oscilloscope only) In synchronization mode cursors are created and shifted in the same manner as it is done in the currently selected master instrument In synchronized mode, sync. time is indicated by a cursor with a specific icon Master instrument defines time range, and active cursor defines synchronization time. On synchronization using respective icon, other instruments are informed about time range and sync. time Note: during synchronization last cursor cannot be deleted as it indicates sync. time 12

Functional Enhancements & Usability Improvements (V8.2.0 V8.2.2) Overview Functional Enhancements Files, Formats and Data Types Distinguish clearly signals from different files by showing a file identifier (V8.2.0 & V8.2.1) Display of verbal string for Enumeration signals in table instrument (V8.2.0) Export measure data in a format readable in standard applications (V8.2.0) Direct access to measure file comment and other meta information (V8.2.1) Support of data type String in table instrument (V8.2.1) Usability Improvements Version History 13

Files, Formats and Data Types (V8.2.0) Distinguish clearly signals from different files by showing a file identifier When using several measure files in one configuration it is essential that the file origin of any signal is visible clearly Thus every measure file gets its unique File Identifier Wherever a signal name is displayed the file ID is shown The file ID has the following behaviors It is smallest available number of all added files It remains unchanged, when replacing the measure file It is saved with the configuration Calculated Signals have the file ID (V8.2.1) 14

Files, Formats and Data Types (V8.2.0) Display of verbal string for Enumeration signals in table instrument For signals having a verbal computation method (so-called enumerations) the table instrument supports to display the verbal string Same representation of signal value is shown in table and in oscilloscope When exporting enumeration signals, whether and how the values are provided in the new measure file, depends on the file format: *.dxl: textual form of enumerations *.dxl INCA dialect: numeric form *.tsv: enumerations are not supported 15

Files, Formats and Data Types (V8.2.0) Export measure data in a format readable in standard applications To provide measure data in a easily readable file format e.g. for further analysis in standard office applications, different file formats are offered On major difference is the handling of enumeration signals *.dxl: textual form of enumerations *.dxl INCA dialect: numeric form *.tsv: enumerations are not supported, only numeric signals can be exported Both *.dxl variants are ASCII Multi-Rate formats. While *.dxl provides the verbal value, in format named *.dxl INCA dialect enumerations are exported as numerical values. The used numerical value is defined by the verbal computation method. 16

Files, Formats and Data Types (V8.2.0) Direct access to measure file comment and further meta information With MDA V8.2.1, when a measure file in the File Explorer is in focus, using CTLR+I opens the Information Window and displays the selected measure file s meta-information Selection of another measure file updates the contents 17

Files, Formats and Data Types (V8.2.1) Display of EVENTs and STRINGs in a directly readable way Support of data types EVENT and STRING in the table instrument allows to read respective text information directly MDA V8.2.1 supports string data according to ETAS MDF 3, incl. Recording pause comments User comments Calibration activity events Recorder trigger Start / Stop events Outlook: Support of MDF 4 events 18

Functional Enhancements & Usability Improvements (V8.2.0 V8.2.2) Overview Functional Enhancements Files, Formats and Data Types Usability Improvements Find quickly signals already used in the configuration (CTRL+F) (V8.2.0) Use space of the oscilloscope more efficiently (V8.2.0) Better information and more clarity when exporting measure data (V8.2.0) More space for working area by one row for configurations and layer tabs (V8.2.1) Oscilloscope: Sorting and manual ordering of signals in the signal list (V8.2.1) Graphical interpolation of signals in oscilloscope (V8.2.1) Drag & drop measurement files to active configuration (V8.2.2) Define precise time range to be displayed (V8.2.2) Version History 19

Usability Improvements (V8.2.0) Find quickly signals already used in the configuration Even in huge configurations already used signals can be found quickly by means of CTRL+F The Configuration Manager gets visible, having the focus in the search field so that the search string can be entered directly All signals matching the search are listed immediately and Can be displayed by double-clicking Can be moved or copied via drag&drop to another instrument (even in the visible layer) Additionally the signal name can be copied from the Configuration Manager into Windows clipboard (CTRL+C) for pasting the name into other applications 20

Usability Improvements (V8.2.0) Use space of the oscilloscope more efficiently To extend the available space for graphical display of signal curves, the toolbar in oscilloscope and scatter plot instruments can be set to auto-hide The tool bar appears every time when hovering on the thin white line on top of the graphical area Most important functionality is also available with the toolbar: Scrolling, and Zooming (via mouse resp. CTRL+F12 for complete time range) Cursors and its navigation (CTRL+R, left/right key, Alt+R) Further the instrument toolbar is suppressed always when creating a print-out 21

Usability Improvements (V8.2.0) Better information and more clarity when exporting measure data To improve the usability of the export measure data functionality two changes were introduced: The list of errors and warnings is grouped such that potential issues can be read more easily Within the export progress indication listed entries can be removed to keep the list as small as needed 22

Usability Improvements (V8.2.1) Provide more space for working area by combining tabs for configurations and layers into one row The currently active configuration is shown left from its layers A drop-down lists all configurations opened in this MDA V8 session, and allows to switch between these Layers can be added easily using the + icon Navigation and switching of layers can be done directly using the tabs, the icons, the mouse-wheel or the drop-down menu 23

Usability Improvements (V8.2.1) Increased productivity through improved Signal List behavior On creation of the oscilloscope the width of the signal name column now adapts automatically to the length of the signal names Signals can be sorted by signal name either ascending ( ) or descending ( ), which is indicated by the icons in the name column Arranging of related signals manually is done by using drag & drop. Target position is indicated by a blue line. 24

Usability Improvements (V8.2.1) Choose mode for connection sample points in oscilloscope Typically, ECU data is acquired and displayed based on actual samples However, in certain cases an interpolation between data samples is more suitable to display in-between values Per default MDA V8 displays all signals in step mode (no interpolation) Once changed to direct connection (i.e. linear interpolation) mode*, the setting will be persisted for the next use of the signal * Interpolation is purely graphical. It is not considered for calculations, or when exporting measure data. 25

Usability Improvements (V8.2.2) Enter directly precise time range to be displayed Time Slider Bar supports to identify and to define easily the visible time range Tooltips indicate the currently visible time range Click into the tooltip to adapt the time range as desired Precision of the time information is set automatically depending on the extend of selected range (in same manner as for cursor time position) 26

Usability Improvements (V8.2.2) Clearer indication of synchronization time in table instrument and event list Independent from the instrument type MDA 8 supports synchronization To facilitate the time relation of data in a table instrument or event list in comparison with an oscilloscope, the synchronization time is indicated as a thin blue line or a blue marked row When scrolling is performed in a table instrument or event list, the time information of the row marked in blue is returned to the synchronization cursor displayed in an oscilloscope 27
