2/13/2012 Panther Instructions Inventory Inventory Scanning using the WIRELESS METHOD (Live) Be sure to test your wireless connection and if it isn t connecting put in a KACE Ticket to have the certificate entered by Technology.. From the main screen on the Panther, click on the Internet Explorer icon In the address bar, choose the IP address for Destiny which is http://10.4.223.162 Choose your school from the dropdown menu Click on OK (there may be a security alert, click on OK) Log in like you normally would in Destiny using the stylus and the input panel Click on Login Another security alert may appear, if it does Click on OK Choose Inventory Choose the correct inventory if there you have more than one started. Click on OK Make sure the cursor is flashing in the box beside barcode. Press the Green Scan button to scan barcode. Immediately you will know if there is an inactive barcode (pull the item right then). If an item is checked out, marked lost or missing it will be corrected as soon as it is scanned. Be sure to watch the screen, sometimes copy notes will interrupt the scanning. Continue scanning and follow directions on Destiny sheet for INVENTORY procedures Inventory Scanning using the UPLOADING METHOD Make sure Active-Sync is installed on the computer before you begin. Active-Sync is a program that allows you to look at and manipulate files that are on the Panther through the computer. From the main screen on the Panther select Follett Remote. From the Function option choose Library then Inventory (yellow screen) Always make sure this box says Library- Not Textbook or Media 1
Make sure the flashing cursor is in the field to the right of the word copy. Scan the barcode by pressing the Green key (you'll see the laser beam). Point the beam at the barcode you want to read. When the unit successfully reads a barcode you will hear a beep. The barcode will be displayed with the word Copy, T then the barcode number. Continue scanning until the section you are working on is completed. If any barcodes are damaged but have an eye-readable number, you'll need to manually enter those numbers in Destiny: (pull those books to print replacement barcodes later) Type in the T (8 key) then press the small blue key two times quickly to change to numeric mode. If you make an error in typing hit the white Key. Or you can use the Keypad and the stylus to enter barcodes. Transferring files First Create a folder on the c: drive or your desktop called Panther scans ( this is where the scans will be stored on the computer ready to upload) Make sure your Panther is connected to the computer via the USB cable that comes with the Panther Be sure to close Follett Remote on the Panther before uploading (You cannot transfer any files on the Panther that are open) Open Active-Sync (on the right hand side of the task bar, the small gray circle icon with two arrows. It will turn green once opened.) It may ask if you wish to sync, just select NO and click on Next Window that opens from Active-Sync Click on Explore: Click on IPSM: This is what is on the Panther but you are viewing it through Active-Sync. 2
Click on Follett Remote: This is what is on the Panther but you are viewing it through Active-Sync. These are your scans on the Panther: Drag and drop From File on Panther To Panther Scans folder on Computer Panther Scans Locate the most recent scan: Highlight the scan file, drag and drop it into the Follett Inventory file on the c: or desktop folder that you just created called Panther Scans. BE VERY CAREFUL of what you are highlighting and dragging. ONLY drag the file that looks like the one above Library Inventory and a date or Library Circulation or Library copies. Do NOT drag or erase any other FOLDERS or files. When done you can minimize these 2 windows until the next upload. On the Computer Open Destiny Go to Back Office Double check that the correct inventory name and dates are showing. Browse to the scan file inside the Panther scans folder you created located on c: drive or your desktop. Highlight the correct file click on up load. A box will appear stating that your job has gone to Job manager and will be processed shortly. 3
Once the Inventory file has been uploaded, delete that Inventory file from both the Panther Scans folder and the Library circulations file that is inside the Follett Remote on the Panther. This will help prevent confusion when uploading the next group of scans. Again be very careful to only delete the correct file NOT any folders. This is an example of the file to be deleted. It is located on the Panther viewed through Active-Sync. Be very, very careful not to delete anything else. To delete, right click to highlight file. Then at the top left of your screen under file choose delete. Scanning for Circulation Circulation Scanning using the UPLOADING METHOD From the main screen on the Panther select Follett Remote. From the function pull-down screen, choose Library then Circulation. Choose either (check-in Green screen) (checkout Pink screen). Always make sure this box says Library- Not Textbook or Media Make sure the flashing cursor is in the field in the box. Scan the barcodes by pressing the Green SCAN key (you'll see the laser beam). Point the beam at the barcode you want to read. For check out first scan or type the patron s barcode. If typed, press the small green button. Type or scan the item barcode. If typed, press button. To Type in the T (8 key) then press the small blue key two times quickly to change to numeric mode. If you make an error in typing hit the white When finished with Circulation using Follett Remote upload and transfer the scan files into Destiny. 4
Go back and follow steps for Transferring files THEN follow the steps below to upload into Destiny Open Destiny Open Circulation Open off line circulation Choose the date you want the transactions to occur Choose options from the three check boxes Browse to the Folder on c: drive or desktop called Panther Locate the circulation file Click on Upload After uploading the files the system will take you to Job Manager where a summary of the transactions and any errors will be shown. Once the Circulation file has been uploaded delete that file from both the Panther Scans folder and the Library circulations file that is inside the Follett Remote on the Panther. Click on OK. If the barcode of patron is unknown, type patron s name and click on the spyglass icon of people to search. Select the correct patron from list. The number of their current check outs will be displayed. Make sure the cursor is flashing in the box beside barcode. Click on the Green Scan Button Scan the barcode of item or search by typing in the title and searching using the spyglass book icon. To switch back and forth from check out to check in, click on the little on the bottom left of the screen to go back to mail menu. o To open the keyboard or hide the key board find the keyboard icon on the lower right hand side of the screen in the task bar. Scanning for other file uploads (to update copies, reports, resources list etc.) Updating files can only be done using the UPLOADING METHOD Wireless Method will not work From the main screen on the Panther, select Follett Remote. Go back and follow steps for Transferring files THEN follow the steps below Open Destiny Open the function desired such as Update copies Update Categories Make sure you choose from the following option ( From Barcode List ) Each function will have different options that you can choose from. Make choices according to your needs Browse to the Folder you created on c: or your desk: called Panther Scans Locate the copies file Click on Upload When finished, follow the deleting files from panther instructions Also remember to delete file from Panther Scans folder when finished to prevent future confusion.
