100G DWDM QSFP Datasheet Product Overview The Arista Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) 100G QSFP pluggable module (Figure 1) offers cost effective solution for metro Data Center Interconnect (DCI) for up to 80km reach at 100 Gigabit/s speed. The DWDM QSFP utilizes IEEE CAUI-4 4x25G electrical interface and is compatible with standard 100G QSFP ports. On the Optical side, it combines two wavelengths into a duplex fiber with the center wavelength aligning with the ITU-T defined 100GHz grid. This enables the use of existing Optical line systems like Optical MUX/DMUX and amplifiers. The DWDM QSFP is available in 40 different channels on the 100GHz ITU-T grid to provide a maximum bandwidth of 4Tbps over a single pair of fiber. Table 1 provides an overview of supported platforms along with recommendations on usage of the DWDM QSFP in each of the platforms. Other QSFP optics can be used in the remaining ports. Front to back airflow is recommended on the platform when using DWDM QSFP for better thermal performance of the system. Data Center Interconnect with 100G DWDM QSFP 100G DWDM QSFP Deployment Guide Growth in Data Center Interconnect is fueled by the need to connect geographically dispersed data centers to meet various business needs such as business continuity and disaster recovery, large scale data transfers for analytics, big data and cluster computing and for scalability of metro data center topologies. Data intensive applications like serverless compute, Artificial intelligence and machine learning are driving the rapid growth of cloud networks. Several cloud service providers (CSPs) are moving towards distributed regional architectures since building massive data centers is not always possible due to real estate and power constraints. Interconnecting these geographically dispersed Data centers is critical to maintain seamless content delivery and to provide application agility. The 100G DWDM QSFP can deliver up to 4Tbps of bandwidth and for up to 80km reach between data centers. This can be achieved by using Optical Multiplexer/Demultiplexer, Optical Pre-Amplifier and post-amplifier and dispersion compensator. The Optical Multiplexer (MUX) combines the different wavelengths of light into a single strand of fiber. Erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) are used to boosts the signal. As shown in Figure 3, a dispersion compensator is needed for applications >5km. Figure 2 shows a deployment scenario for less than 5km, where a dispersion compensator is not required, and DWDM is providing for efficient use of the single fiber pair with up to 40 wavelengths multiplexed for high aggregate bandwidth. Arista offers a portfolio of switching platforms with wire speed encryption that is compliant to IEEE 802.1AE defined MACsec. When used with one of the MACsec capable switching platforms, the Arista 100G DWDM QSFP provides a cost effective solution for secure data center interconnect applications for a maximum bandwidth of 4Tbps and up to 80km reach. Alternative solutions based on advanced modulation techniques, coherent detection and digital signal processing are available for the Metro, regional and long haul applications that provide over 5000km reach (Fig 4).
