1. Purpose The vrealize Management Pack for User Guide describes the primary features of the vrealize Management Pack for, including dashboards, views, reports, metrics, and alerts that allow users to optimize the monitoring and management of NetApp resources from within vrealize. 2. Introduction to the Management Pack The vrops Management Pack for is an embedded adapter for vrealize (vrops). It retrieves data from either a NetApp OnCommand Unified Manager Core (DFM) or SLM/API Services server and makes it available within vrops. 2.1 Understanding NetApp Integration The Management Pack for enables the exchange of information between a DFM/SLM/API Services server and vrops. Figure 2: NetApp Integration Information Exchange DFM Cluster-mode Figure 3: NetApp Integration Information Exchange SLM/API Services (connected indirectly and directly to cluster) 2.2 How the Management Pack Collects Data During each data collection cycle, the Management Pack opens a connection to the DFM/SLM/API Services server and queries it to retrieve resource metrics. The collection interval for the adapter instance resource determines how often the Management Pack collects data. The default collection interval is five minutes. 4 vrealize Management Pack for User Guide

2.3 Data the Management Pack Collects The Management Pack for can collect performance data, relationships (associations), and events for the following NetApp objects (resource kinds): NOTE: Certain resource kinds (indicated with an asterisk (*)) can be collapsed into parent resource kinds. This can be done by modifying the netapp_adapter3.properties file in the $VCOPS_BASE/user/plugins/ inbound/netapp_adapter3/conf/ folder. For more information, refer to section 6.8 Disabling or Collapsing Resource Kinds in the accompanying Blue Medora VMware vrealize (vrops) Management Pack for Installation & Configuration Guide. 2.4 Management Pack Inventory Trees (Traversal Specs) The Inventory Tree (Traversal Spec) feature in vrops allows you to easily navigate your NetApp environment. The hierarchical structure implicitly shows relationships among resources and enables quick drill-downs to root-cause issues. The Management Pack for includes four Inventory Trees. These can be accessed from Home -> Environment Overview, under the Inventory Trees grouping. All four Inventory Trees include VMware Datastores and s within the hierarchy where appropriate. 2.4.1 NetApp Aggregate Provides a view of all NetApp Aggregates monitored by the Management Pack. Expanding an Aggregate will show any NetApp LUNs, s, and QTrees that are hosted by the Aggregate. 2.5 Other External Relationships In addition to the external relationships to the VMware virtual layer, this Management Pack includes external relationships for Blue Medora True Visibility Suite customers who are also using Blue Medora s vrops Management Pack for Cisco Networking as well as EP Ops. The following external relationships can be discovered: NetApp -> EP Ops OS (Linux, Windows, AIX, HPUX, Solaris) -> Cisco Networking Switch 3. Dashboards Dashboards are the primary user interface that allow users to monitor NetApp resources from within vrealize. NOTE: The dashboards assume that resources are not collapsed. If resources are collapsed, any widgets that reference the collapsed objects will not display data. 3.1 Topology The Topology dashboard provides a bird s eye view of your NetApp infrastructure. By selecting a NetApp resource from the Environment Selector widget on the left, you can quickly view key performance indicators (KPIs), relationships, and metrics for any resource in your NetApp environment. 3.2 NetApp Datastores The NetApp Datastores dashboard provides an overview of all VMware datastores using. Select a datastore to view its topology, alerts, metrics graphs, and detailed KPIs such as read/write latency, IOPs and throughput; used space percent; and total capacity. 3.3 Explorer The Explorer dashboard provides a deep-dive view into NetApp storage systems. Select a NetApp cluster and system to view that system s alerts, KPIs, relationships, and metrics graphs. Figure 13: Explorer Dashboard 12 vrealize Management Pack for User Guide

3.4 NetApp Troubleshooting The NetApp Troubleshooting dashboard helps you troubleshoot issues related to your VMware virtual machines (VMs). Select a VM to view its detailed KPIs such as CPU/memory/disk usage and read/write latency, IOPs and throughput. 3.6 NetApp QoS The NetApp QoS dashboard displays Quality of Service (QoS) performance details for Storage s (SVMs), volumes, LUNs, VVOL LUNs, and datastores. 3.7 NetApp Performance The NetApp Performance dashboard provides an overview of key performance metrics for NetApp resources. Select the cluster, system, aggregate, volume, or datastore to populate performance metrics. (You can clear interactions for a widget using the Reset Interaction button.) 3.8 NetApp VM Performance The NetApp VM Performance dashboard displays key performance metrics for virtual machines and their related resources on. Select a VM, volume, host system, datastore, etc., to populate the detailed performance metrics. (You can clear interactions for a widget using the Reset Interactions button.) 4. Using Tags The Management Pack for creates the following Entity Status resource tags in the vrops UI: NetApp 7 Mode Resources Mode Resources VMware Datastores hosted on VMware VMs hosted on These tag values represent groupings of NetApp and VMware resources to provide ease of troubleshooting and filtering on specific widgets in our dashboard templates. vrops provides widgets that can further filter the resources displayed using Entity Status resource tags. NOTE: Entity Status resource tags for NetApp are not visible in the UI until after at least one resource in a resource tag has been collected from a NetApp storage system by the Management Pack. 5. Alerts The Management Pack for pulls health status and events and displays them in vrealize as alerts. The critical levels of each alert are closely mapped from NetApp to vrops. Refer to 11. Appendix II: Alerts for the full list of alerts, symptoms, and recommendations provided by this Management Pack. 6. Analysis Badges Using the predictive analytics capabilities of the vrops Analysis Badges through capacity definitions, the Management Pack populates capacity and utilization breakdowns for NetApp resources. 7. Views The Management Pack for creates views that allow the user to view statistics of metrics across an entire NetApp Environment. The views help give a broad picture of the entire system, as opposed to a more in depth view. To access the Management Pack views, go to Environment > NetApp and click the desired Object (resource kind). Select the Details tab, then Views. 8. Reports The Management Pack for contains the following out-the-box reports. The reports can be exported and easily shared with key stakeholders in either.pdf or.csv formats. 9. Troubleshooting the Management Pack Known troubleshooting information can help you diagnose and correct common problems with your NetApp adapter instance. This section includes the following topics: Troubleshoot an Adapter Instance Test Connection Failures View System Log Files Resolve Common Problems 9.1 Troubleshoot an Adapter Instance Perform these general troubleshooting steps to diagnose and correct problems with a NetApp adapter instance: Verify that the DFM/SLM/API Services server is running. API Services only: Verify that OnCommand Unified Manager and OnCommand Performance Manager servers are running. Edit the adapter instance and click Test Connection to verify the connection to the DFM/SLM/API Services server. If an error occurs, refer to section 9.2 Test Connection Failures. View the collection status and collection state for the adapter instance resource on the Environment Overview page in vrops. Check the adapter and collector logs for errors. Refer to section 9.3 View System Log Files, in the accompanying Installation and Configuration Guide. 9.2 Test Connection Failures When clicking Test Connection, the following connection errors are possible. 9.2.1 Bad or Incorrect Host Name Problem: Unable to establish a valid connection to the target system. Failed to test adapter: If using DFM/ OCUM: Unable to connect to DFM server. If using API Services: Unable to connect to API Services. Remedy: Check to ensure the host name provided is correct. 9.2.2 Authentication Failure Problem: Unable to establish a valid connection to the target system. Failed to test adapter: If using DFM/ OCUM: Unable to connect to DFM server. If using API Services: Username or password is invalid. Remedy: Check to ensure the NetApp user name and password entered in the credential window is correct. 9.2.3 Wrong Protocol (HTTP vs. HTTPS) Problem: Unable to establish a valid connection to the target system. Failed to test adapter: If using DFM/OCUM: Unable to connect to DFM server. If using API Services: API Services only supports https for connections. Remedy: Ensure the protocol selection for your adapter instance matches the target server. The default protocol is HTTPS for API Services. For DFM/OCUM hosts, you must set the protocol option to HTTP. 21 vrealize Management Pack for User Guide

9.2.4 Incorrect Port Problem: Unable to establish a valid connection to the target system. Failed to test adapter: If using DFM/ OCUM: Unable to connect to DFM server. If using API Services: Unable to connect to API Services. Remedy: Ensure the correct port was entered under Advanced Settings when adding the adapter instance (Note: If using vcops, the protocol selection can be found under Basic Settings). NOTE: By default, the Port entry field is set to 0 and uses the default port. If a different number is entered, the default port will be overridden. 9.3 View System Log Files You can view adapter errors in the adapter and collector log files. You can view the adapter and collector log files in the vrops user interface or in an external log viewer. The NetApp adapter log files are in the $VCOPS_BASE/user/log/adapters/NetAppAdapter/ folder. The collector log files are in the $VCOPS_BASE/user/log/ folder. The logging level is set to WARNING by default. To troubleshoot issues, set the logging level to INFO. To view detailed messages, including micro steps, queries, and returned results, set the logging level to DEBUG. You can set the base log level for the collector via Administration -> Support -> Logs -> Select COLLECTOR folder -> Select Edit Properties icon -> Edit Root logger level. NOTE: If you set the logging level to DEBUG, log files can become large very quickly. Set the logging level to DEBUG only for short periods of time. For complete information about viewing log files and modifying log levels, refer to the VROps online help. 9.4 Resolve Common Problems The following steps outline solutions for resolving some of the most common problems you may encounter. 9.4.1 Metrics Do Not Appear In the User Interface Problem: The NetApp adapter instance is not collecting metrics. Cause: There is a problem with the DFM/SLM/API Services server connection, metric collection configuration, or adapter instance configuration. Solution: 1. If metrics do not appear in the user interface 10 minutes after the first collection cycle, verify that other metrics are being collected. 2. If vrops is collecting other metrics, check the status of the NetApp adapter instance resource on the Environment Overview page. 22 vrealize Management Pack for User Guide

Table 1: NetApp Adapter Instance Status OPTION Status is green Verify that the DFM/SLM/API Services server that you are connected to is monitoring at least one NetApp system. Status is red DFM only: There might be a metric collection configuration problem. When you configure a NetApp adapter instance, you can set the Auto Filer Configuration option to True or you can manually configure filers for metric collection. For information about manually configuring files, refer to the Configure the NetApp DFM Server to Collect Metrics section in the accompanying Installation and Configuration Guide. The DFM/SLM/API Services server is down or your NetApp adapter instance is misconfigured. Refer to section 7.4.2, Adapter Instance Resource Status Is Red. 9.4.2 Adapter Instance Resource Status Is Red Problem: The status icon for the adapter instance resource is red on the Environment Overview page. Cause: The DFM/SLM/API Services server is down or the NetApp adapter instance is misconfigured. Solution: 1. Verify that the DFM/SLM/API Services server is running. 2.
