Email Directions and List for Congressional Staffers Directions This is a new, well-researched, targeted list. It includes the 82 individuals most likely to influence members of the Armed Services and Appropriation Committee Members to fund civilian protection against unrestrained military escalation and enforce the National Environmental Policy Act. Some on the list serve as aides to people like Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Others are military advisors, legal counsel, research analysts, and professional staff members. Each has the potential to sway decisions or step up to champion our cause. The Open Letter to Congress - Stop EA-18 Growler Training at the OLF Coupeville has been sent to each staffer on this list. This makes your task easier, because much has already been said. Read the letter and write your email. You can briefly, or at length, comment on the Open Letter and/or tell how the Growlers affect you. Congress needs to hear from you, or the assumption will be that you don t care. The easy road will be for Committee Members to assume the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) will be unbiased. We know that won t happen and by 2017 a total of 153 EA-18 Growlers will be flying full force with EIS approval. Every person who will suffer must demand an unbiased EIS and ask that the flights stop now despite any court ruling. We do not want the burden of suing the Navy in 2017 again, after no impact is found. It may take 25 minutes to write your first email and 10 minutes to practice the following steps. But after that, you ll be able to send emails in 1-3 minutes. Your email can be a short personal message, with the Open Letter copied at the bottom. If you think the planned onslaught is wrong, you must speak out. Many of your neighbors feel they are justly compensated for the health risks and life disruption illegally and inhumanely imposed here. Your voice must be counted. Get ready to write your email, customize it for each Staffer, and send it to the list below. You ll be using copy and paste, switching screens between this Adobe document and your email. 1. View the Sample Emails to see how to write a simple heartfelt message in your own words that includes a reference to the Open Letter that has already been sent. 2. We don t want everyone starting at the top of the list. Work alphabetically, instead. Pick a Staffer with a first name closest to your own. 3. Decide how you will switch back and forth between this Adobe file and your email. One method is to click on the program icons at the bottom of your screen. After you open your email program, you will see its program icon at the very bottom of this screen, along with the red Adobe icon for this file. Write your email and subject. 4. Open your email program and a new blank email.
5. Write your Message and your Subject. 6. Find your place to start alphabetically on the list below. Copy and paste the email address for the first staffer into your email. 7. Copy and paste the customized greeting for the aide into your email, above your email message. 8. Send your email 9. Print the list and check off each staffer as you send your emails. Follow the above steps to forward the same message to as many on the list as you can. 10. To send the next email: 1) open the last sent email, 2) Select Forward, 3) replace the email address and greeting for the next staffer, 3) delete FW in the Subject and the old header for the last email, 4) optional - change the font color of the greeting to black, 5) send it and continue on. That s it! Cycle through the beginning if you started toward the end. Additional hints for advanced streamlining: Don t delete these sent emails. You can use them to easily send another batch to the same aides in the future, and just paste in a new message. Make a new folder in the Sent Folder of your email program and put them in, if you know how. Experiment to make this even easier. Cut and paste between the list, Word, and the email. Use the link to open each email, or 10 at a time, and cut and paste the subject and message in. Paste in just the message and type the Subject. Hire someone to do these emails for you. Imagine if we each sent 10 a day!
