Prerequisites 1. Let the ballbar calibration kit adjust to the ambient temperature for a minimum of 30 minutes. 2. Install the Renishaw QC20-W Ballbar Software on your computer. 3. Install the CR2 battery into the QC20-W Ballbar transducer. 1. Zerodur Calibrator 2. Magnetic Mount Assembly (for the table) 3. QC20-W Ballbar Transducer 4. CR2 Battery (for the Transducer) 5. Ballbar QC20-W - Software - Configuration STEP 1 On your computer, click the Start button. Select All Program and open the Renishaw Ballbar 20 program. Click Configuration and select Maintain Calibrators [1]. On the Maintain Calibrators window, click the Add a Calibrator tab [2]. On the Add Calibration window [3], enter all the certificate calibration information for the 150.0 mm Ballbar. Note: The calibration certificate is inside the compartment of the QC20-W equipment case. Click Add. Click OK. STEP 2 On the Maintain Calibrators window, click the Unit icon [1]. Select the correct measurement units in the dialog box. Click OK. Ballbar QC20-W - Bluetooth - Set Up STEP 1 Put the QC20-W Bluetooth USB dongle into your computer. Let Windows automatically install the device driver software. If the Bluetooth communication fails, do these steps: Note: If one of these steps makes you wait a long time, remove and put back the QC20-W Bluetooth USB dongle into your computer and start again. Click the Bluetooth icon [1] and select Add a Device. Click Bluetooth Other [2]. Click Next. Click Pair without using a code [3]. Wait until Windows completes adding the device. Click Close. Ballbar QC20-W - Analysis - Quick Check Mode STEP 1 Set the main circuit breaker to the ON position. Push [POWER ON]. Push [RESET] to stop each alarm. Push [Zero Return]. STEP 2 On Graphic Mode, make sure the ballbar test programs are installed. If not, load the ballbar test programs into the control. Move the table to the center of the machine. Install the magnetic tool cup [1] with a tool holder into the spindle. Put the center mount assembly [3] with the setting ball [2] onto the center of the table. Loosen the center mount assembly and align it with the center of the magnetic tool cup [1]. Align the tool cup of the spindle with the center mount and the ball joint. Tighten the lock bar (4) of the center mount. Push [OFFSET] one or two times to select WORK ZERO OFFSET on the display. Select G54 and push [PART ZERO SET] for the X, Y and Z axes. Jog the Z axis up 2 (5 cm). Remove the setting ball. Push [CYCLE START] to do a test of the program. STEP 3 Make sure the CR2 battery is installed in the transducer. Turn the transducer cap clockwise to start it. The green LED on the transducer comes on. Put the transducer onto the calibrator. On your computer, click the Start button. Select All Programs and open the Renishaw Ballbar 20 program. Select Quick Check. Note: Enter the measurements in inches or metric. 1. Click the Run a ballbar test. 2. Set Machine Type to Z vertical (For a vertical mill). 3. Set Test Plane to XY. 4. Set Feedrate to 100.0 in/min (254 mm/min). 5. Check Calibrator. 6. Set Machine Expansion Coefficient to 6.6 F (11.9 C). 7. Set Test Radius, select Custom and type 5.9055 in (150.00 mm) (Do not include the last 2 digits from 5.905512). 8. STEP 4 Click the Green button [1] to view the simulated movement. Make sure this movement is the same as the movement pattern of the ballbar test program on the machine. Click the right Arrow [2] to continue. Type pre-test comments [3], if necessary. Click the right Arrow to continue. STEP 5 On the Port:Bluetooth, click the down Arrow. Select QC20-W [1] to find the ballbar Bluetooth device. Click Search Again [2]. Note: If the ballbar Bluetooth device is not found, remove and put back the QC20-W Bluetooth USB dongle into your computer and start the search again. When the device is found, select the Ballbar Bluetooth Device [3] icon. Click Ok. The ballbar Bluetooth LED changes color from green to blue. STEP 6 Put the QC20-W transducer onto the calibrator as shown in the illustration [1]. Click the calibration button [2]. STEP 7 Push [Cycle Start] to start the ballbar test program to position X, Y, and Z axes on the initial start point. Clean the tip of the transducer with putty. When the program stops, attach the QC20-W ballbar to the magnetic cup [1] and the magnetic mount [2]. Click the green button [3] to collect the data. Push [Cycle Start] to complete the ballbar test program. Click the Floppy icon [4] when the test is completed. Type the name for the file [5]. Click Save. STEP 8 Click the Result icon [1] to show the percentages screen. For the machine to operate correctly, the Circularity value [2] must be less than 0.0005" (0.013 mm). Do the QC20-W ballbar test program on each axis combination, XY, XZ, and YZ. At the start of the test program as shown in Steps 3 and 4, do the following for axes XZ and YZ: Set the correct axis [3].
