2 IMPORTANT INFORMATION Follow these simple steps to apply for a job with the Person County Government. You must have a valid personal email account BEFORE you begin. This guide may be used by new applicants and employees applying for internal positions. Please be advised that your session will expire after 30 minutes of inactivity. If a position requires proof of education (transcripts or a copy of a diploma/degree/certificate), attach the documents BEFORE submitting your application for those positions.

3 Welcome to the Person County Government Career Portal! The following guide will provide guidance on how to use and navigate within the Person County Government Career Portal. There are various sections which will provide you the information you need to apply with Person County Government. 4 SECTION 1 LOGIN TO A PREVIOUSLY CREATED ACCOUNT 1. Go to www.personcounty.net 2. At the top of the main page, click on What s New 3. Then click on Job Openings

5 4. Login by entering your username and password and click Sign In. If you forget your username or password, you can reset them by clicking on Forgot Username or Reset Password under the Sign In Box.

6 SECTION 2 CREATE AN ACCOUNT & PROFILE If you do not have a NeoGov account, you will need to create an account. The following steps will walk you through the process. You will need a personal email address. 1. Go to www.personcounty.net 2. At the top of the main page, click on What s New 3. Then click on Job Openings

4. Create an account by clicking on Create one. 7

8 Enter your information as shown below. Your username should be something you will easily remember. Your password must be at least eight (8) characters and contain upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. Example: Person1# You should always keep your password private and don t share with anyone. 5. Click Create when complete.

9 NOW YOU RE READY TO CREATE YOUR NEOGOV PROFILE After you create your account, the system will take you to the Person County Government Career Pages. 1. Click beside your email address at the top right and then click on profile. 2. You will then be connected to this screen where you can upload your resume into the NeoGov system or click on in for your information to be transferred from LinkedIn.

10 3. If you choose to upload your resume: You may transfer your resume via LinkedIn or by uploading from a computer or personal device (i.e. USB stick). Uploading a resume will also allow NeoGov to populate information from your resume into your profile (i.e. demographics, work history, certifications, etc.) automatically. You may only load supported files types: pdf, doc, docx. Be sure to review your profile for any information that did not load. Click on Edit to make changes to your information and Save to save them. Click Next when you are done with the section. Please note: If you are using a public computer you may not be allowed to use external devices to load documents onto the computer. Check with the administrator of the computer you are using. Human Resources can scan and upload your paper resume and cover letter once you submit your application if you are using their kiosk. If you choose to skip this step: Click on Skip This Step. The system will prompt you to manually enter Contact Information, Work History, Education, Random Additional Items, and Reference Information. Click the Edit button above each section and fill in the requested items. Fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are required and must be completed. Complete the section and click Save to move on to the next section.

11 4. Once you complete all the sections, click Save. Your profile is now ready for you to apply for jobs with Person County Government.

12 SECTION 3 APPLY FOR A JOB 1. Log in to your account. See SECTION ONE for directions on how to login into a previously created account OR SECTION TWO for steps to create an account. 2. Select Job Opportunities to reach the career portal page that lists all current job openings for Person County Government.

13 3. You will see a page similar to what is shown below. Scroll through the positions to review all current job openings. You may review a position description by clicking on the job title. 4. If you are interested in applying for a position, click on the position title then click on Apply to start an application.

14 5. You will be taken through various sections of the application. If you have already created your profile, your information will be pre-populated. 6. Review your information to make sure it is correct. 7. Click Next at the bottom of the page to move through the sections until you reach Attachments. 8. Attachments: When submitting attachments, click on Add supplemental attachment to upload them. Allowable attachments include: a resume, cover letter, and specific job requested forms (i.e. transcript, certifications, etc.). Once complete, click the Next button to continue. Please note: Attachments are not always required. When filling out applications for specific jobs, the system will alert you what is required. If you do not have any attachments to upload, you may skip this step by clicking on Next. 9. Agency Questions/Supplemental Questions: Agency Questions provide statistical information to help Human Resources evaluate the recruitment program and prepare statistical reports required by Federal, State and local agencies.

15 Supplemental questions are unique to each posted position. These questions are used to obtain additional job-related information to better determine your qualifications for the selected position. 10. Upon completion of the questions, click Proceed to Review at the bottom of the page.

16 11. Proceed to Review: At this point, you may review all information that will be submitted as part of your application. You may make adjustments directly from this page for any of the completed sections. Once you have reviewed your application, click on Proceed and Certify to Submit. 12. Certification Page: Carefully read the disclaimer before submitting your application. Once you have read the disclaimer, you are ready to submit your application for your selected position. Click Accept & Submit to process your application with Human Resources.

17 13. Application Submitted: Congratulations! You have successfully submitted an application to Person County Government. You should be brought to a page similar to the image below. If you do not see this page, your application was not submitted to Human Resources. Please review your application for missing fields or information that needs to be updated. If your application was processed successfully, you will receive an automated email (as shown below) indicating that your application was received by Human Resources.

18 What s Next? Applications will be forwarded to the hiring department for review after the position closing date. The hiring department will review the applications and contact the most qualified candidates to move forward with the interview portion of the hiring process. If a candidate is not selected to continue through the interview process, the candidate will receive an email notification from Person County confirming this information.

19 SECTION 4 CHECK YOUR APPLICATION STATUS: You may check the status of your application at any time by logging in to NeoGov. Keep in mind that you will receive communication via email if you are no longer being considered for a position. 1. Login to the system. 2. The status of your application will be listed beside the position applied for. See example below. 3. If you receive an email indicating that you are no longer being considered for a position, the system status will continue to show that your application is under review until the position is filled. Your email notification would be the correct status. 4. Once a position is filled and closed, your status will update to: POSITION FILLED.

20 SECTION 5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 1. How do I apply for a position? From the Person County website you will be linked if you click on Job Listings. If you are already on the Person County Government Career Pages in NeoGov just click on the job title and the page to apply pops up. 2. How can I get a listing of the current openings? All open positions are posted on the NeoGov website under Job Opportunities. 3. What is the application process? Applications are accepted for open positions only. Applications must be submitted by the deadline noted on the posting (eastern time zone). Once the closing date is over, all applications received will be referred to the hiring department. The hiring department will determine who should be invited to an interview for the position and conduct interviews. Candidates being offered an interview may not be contacted immediately following the closing date. Simply fulfilling the minimum requirements for a position does not assure an interview. Person County reserves the right to re-advertise positions or to delay or cancel the filling of a position. If you need special assistance, in any way, in the employment process, please contact us. To check on recruitment status, login into your account. If the status is not posted within two weeks of the closing date, feel free to contact us. 4. What benefits does Person County offer? 21 5. Is there a waiting list for positions that you do not have posted on the Job Opportunities Page? No, Person County does not have a waiting list for positions, however, if you are interested in a position that is not advertised, you may complete a position interest card by clicking on Job Interest Cards. For the next 12 months after you submit this form, you will receive an email notification each time a position opens with Person County, NC whose category matches one of the categories you've chosen. 6. Can I submit a paper application instead of applying online? No, applications are only accepted online through NeoGov. A resume may not be submitted in lieu of an application, but may be required to supplement the application. Please read the position advertisement carefully to be sure your education qualifications meets the requirements of the position. On your application, show your specific qualifications which relate to the position.
