To use the Typical installation option to deploy an IBM Tioli Monitoring product. The installer proides two deployment paths: Typical and Custom. Use the Typical installation path when the following conditions are true: You want to install the product on a target computer that matches one of the following profiles: Has no software installed for the Tioli Management Framework. Has one of the following ersions of the Tioli Management Framework installed: Version 3.7 (Reision A or Reision B) or Version 3.7.1. You cannot install this product on systems that run preious ersions of the Tioli Management Framework. You are a first-time Tioli user. Your enironment matches the Typical installation graphic on the next page. Note: Choose the Custom installation path if you want to use a Planner tool that offers a tree iew of the entire installation and proides control oer directory paths and naming conentions. The installation and setup guide for the IBM Tioli Monitoring product proides procedures for the Custom installation process. Requirements The product installation requires 1.5 GB of disk space on the Tioli management region serer and on managed nodes. The installation depot (temporary directory) requires 2.6 GB of disk space. (The installer proides the option to automatically delete this directory after installation.) Note: On Windows, the depot must reside on the target computer. You cannot perform an installation of the product on Windows using a depot that is located on a remote system. On UNIX, proide a directory path that is accessible from the installation computer to the installation depot. The optional Web Health Console requires 250 MB of disk space. The host computer should hae at least 384 MB of RAM. The temporary directories for installation require 600 MB. The Jaa Runtime Enironment, Version 1.3.0, requires 75 MB of disk space. The Jaa Runtime Enironment is required on all endpoints for this product and is required on any computer that runs the Web Health Console. For HP-UX operating systems, you must be running HP-UX Version 11.x to use the installer or to run endpoints with this product. The required Jaa Runtime Enironment, Version 1.3.0, is aailable only for HP-UX 11.x. You cannot use preious ersions of HP-UX. Indiidual monitoring products might hae additional requirements. Considerations for the Typical installation path This section describes issues by category and describes workarounds for a Typical installation. The list might not be complete. Table 1. Considerations for the Typical installation path Consideration General considerations When you enter an inalid user ID or password for the installation of managed nodes or endpoints, the installer panel accepts the settings, but later the installer displays an error message in the Step Detail dialog box when it begins to install this software. The Browse option in the installer panels requires a long time period to launch the file selection dialog box. This problem occurs when the computer has multiple file systems mounted. The installer erifies connectiity with each file system before presenting the dialog box. The Browse option in the installer panels fails to display a CD-ROM drie. This problem occurs when you click Browse while the CD-ROM drie is empty. After the problem occurs, you cannot resole the problem by inserting a CD into the drie. When you click the Cancel button in an installer panel you stop the entire installation and must take steps to prepare the computer for another inocation of the installer. Workaround Perform the following steps: 1. Click the Change buttoninthestep Detail dialog box to display the Change Value dialog box. 2. Enter the new alue in the Change Value dialog box for user ID, password, and destination directory, as needed. At any time you can double-click this failed step in the Step List to perform this workaround. If this operation fails, perform the following steps: 1. Click the Defer buttoninthestep Detail dialog box. 2. Allow the installation process to finish. 3. Manually perform any step that you defer. See the Tioli Enterprise Installation Guide that comes with the Tioli Management Framework software for information on manually installing managed nodes and endpoints. Minimize the number of file systems mounted on the computer. Type the path of the target file system in the text box to directly access that file system. Type the path of the target file system in the text box to directly access the CD. Aoid the problem in subsequent installer panels by making sure a CD is in the CD-ROM drie before you click Browse. If you want to cancel the installation while the Step List is running, perform the following steps: 1. Click the Stop button and allow the currently running process to finish. Additional Information: If you click Cancel without allowing the currently running process to finish, the system might remain in an unpredictable state. 2. Click Cancel to stop the installation and close the installer. 3. Delete the temporary depot directory created by the installer. 6 Road Map for the Typical Installation Option: IBM Tioli Monitoring Products

Table 1. Considerations for the Typical installation path (continued) Consideration Workaround You might see the following error message during installation: This program must run on the TMR serer. This error occurs when an installation of Tioli Management Framework existed preiously on the target computer and was not completely uninstalled. An incomplete uninstallation leaes the script that sets up the Tioli enironment, setup_en.sh on UNIX and setup_en.cmd on Windows. When the installer detects this file, it assumes that the Tioli Management Framework is already installed and installation fails. In the Step List panel of the installer you might see the following message box when installation of the Tioli desktop software begins: String ariable is not large enough for string. Check string declarations. Error 401.. UNIX consideration A Solaris enironment requires certain fix packages to enable installation of this product. Windows consideration On Windows NT, software utilities that IBM Tioli Monitoring, Version 5.1.1 requires might be missing. 1. Click OK. The installer prompts you to end the installation. 2. Click Finish. 3. Delete the temporary depot directory created by the installer. 4. Delete the enironment setup file from the following directory: On UNIX: /etc/tioli On Windows: %SystemRoot%\system32\driers\etc\Tioli 5. Start the installation process again. Click OK to continue the installation. After installation, if you are unable to launch the Tioli desktop, run the installation wizard for this tool in the following directory path of the Tioli Management Framework, Upgrade from Version 3.7, Reision B to Version 3.7.1 installation CD: PC\DESKTOP\DISK1\SETUP.EXE. Install these fix packages prior to installing the product. Fix packages for Solaris 2.6 105181-29, 105210-38, 105284-45, 105568-23, 105591-11, 105633-59, 105669-10, 106040-17, 106125-11, 106409-01, 106429-02, 106841-01, 106842-09, 107733-09, and 108091-03 Fix packages for Solaris 7 106327-10, 106541-17, 106950-14, 106980-17, 107081-37, 107153-01, 107226-18, 107544-03, 107636-08, 107656-07, 107702-09, 108374-05, 108376-29, and SUNWi1 fonts package Note: You can obtain the fonts package on the Solaris installation CD. Fix packages for Solaris 8 108652-37, 108921-13, and 108940-32 Run the cscript command in the MS-DOS prompt to see what ersion of Windows Script Host you are running. You cannot create Windows endpoints if you are installing the product on a UNIX serer. Refer to the IBM Tioli Monitoring User s Guide and the IBM Tioli Monitoring Release Notes.
