Welcome to BIM Connect 2013, part of the Graitec BIM solution BIM Connect 2013 is fully part of the Graitec Advance suite, consisting of Advance Steel, Advance Concrete, Advance CAD and Advance Design. GRAITEC Advance is a Building Information Modeling (BIM) system that automates the entire structural design and construction documentation process from engineering design and structural analysis to member optimization, detailing and fabrication. GRAITEC BIM Connect 2013 has important improvements in several areas: New GTCX file format transfer any shape body Folded plates and polybeams are imported in Autodesk Revit Profile mapping for North America (US and Canada) and UK Speed improvement regarding plates import Improvements for curved concrete elements Plates features are transferred through GTCX 5
New features 1: New GTCX file format Stores old GTC FILE Stores more information ACIS bodies NC files Other files As a consequence, with GTCX we can transfer any shape body: Stairs Advance Steel -> Revit Revit -> Advance Concrete / Steel Sloped slabs (Revit -> Advance Concrete/ Steel) 6
Trapezoid wall (Revit -> Advance Concrete / Steel) Roofs (Revit -> Advance Concrete/ Steel) Openings (Revit <-> Advance Concrete / Steel) Curved beams (Revit -> Advance Steel) 7
2: Export of the folded plates and polybeams For a better interoperability between programs, BIM Connect provides the export of the folded plates and polybeams from Advance Steel and imports them in Autodesk Revit. All types of folded plates are included in this category such as: usual folded plate, conical folded plate and twisted folded plate. 3: Automatic installation from Advance Setup Starting with version 2013, BIM Connect can be installed from the Advance Setup. Even if the installation is express or custom, the application is automatically installed. 8
4: Commands gathered on one ribbon tab GRAITEC BIM Connect has a new ribbon tab in Autodesk Revit, which gathers all the commands: Export, Import, Synchronization, Settings and About. 5: About dialog Information, like version, build, date or package, regarding the installed application, can be found in the ribbon tab of GRAITEC BIM Connect, by selecting the option: About. 6: Open help by pressing F1 Press F1 on the BIM Connect icon from Revit -> Add-Ins. Using the default browser, an internet page will be opened which contains the latest information about GRAITEC BIM Connect. 9
7: Profile mapping for North America (US and Canada) and UK More than 6000 profile mapping lines, including profile rotations, were added in the specific database: GTCMapping.mdb US profiles Canadian profiles UK profiles 10
Improvements To speed up performances and to allow more response for handling big projects, GRAITEC BIM Connect 2013 has a series of improvements. 1: Speed improvement regarding plates import The import time of the models into Autodesk Revit has decreased by almost 50% due to the fact that the method of importing plates was changed. Time (min) 300 250 200 150 100 50 0 1000 plates Version 2012 Version 2013 Model with approximately 1000 plates Model with approximately 8500 plates 11
2: Correct rotation and offset for curved beams Curved beams with different rotations and/or offsets are imported with the correct properties. 3: Curved foundations Curved foundations are successfully imported 4: Bent walls Bent walls can be imported using any format: GTCX or IFC. 12
5: Curved walls Curved walls can be imported using any format: GTCX or IFC. 6: Beam holes Beam holes, used in different situations, are transferred using any format: GTCX or IFC. 7: Polygonal features for plates Polygonal features for plates, created in Advance Steel, are transferred through GTCX in Autodesk Revit. 13
8: Correct justification for walls GRAITEC BIM Connect keeps the justification of the walls created in Advance Concrete or Advance Steel. 9: Automatic recognition of usual concrete sections When usual concrete sections (rectangular, circular, square) are imported using any file format (GTCX or IFC), they are automatically recognized by the program and no mapping is require. 14
