Quick Start You will need the following to set up and perform tests with the BreathScan Lync : 1 BreathScan Lync reader with a 9V battery Your ios (Apple) or Android tablet, with the Akers Wellness App loaded Your device must be connected to the internet and Bluetooth enabled 1 BreathScan family test cartridge, for example, OxiChek In order to use your BreathScan Lync, you will need to perform the following steps: For Android users: Go to Google Play store and download the Akers Wellness App. There is no need to turn on the reader; it will power on/off automatically when a cartridge is inserted or removed. (9 Volt Battery pre-installed prior to shipment) Your BreathScan Lync reader name will be XXX-ZZZZ, where XXX is the lot number and ZZZZ is the serial number for the reader (ex. 030-0001) Open the Akers Wellness App on your mobile device and log in. First time users will be asked to sign up by registering using an email and a unique password. This email & password will be your log in. Click ( ) to create one or more new patients within the App. - type in the patient name, date of birth and press Register. Select the patient name. Initiate a New Test on the App by clicking the Take a new test button for the specific test you are running. Follow the onscreen directions. Upon completion of each test the App will show a box which you will press to scan for devices. - Select your reader; XXX-ZZZZ (ex. 030-0001). The blue light on the BreathScan Lync reader will illuminate when the test data is being transmitted via Bluetooth. The patient s score will appear on the Android device and is automatically stored. Do not expose the reader or any of the components to high humidity, extreme heat, cold, dust, or dirt. The BreathScan Lync is a sensitive electronic reader and should not be dropped. If the surface of your BreathScan Lync reader needs cleaning, dampen a cloth with water and wipe the outside surfaces carefully. A mild soap may also be applied to the damp cloth. The interior of the optic chamber must always remain dry. Avoid getting dust or dirt in the BreathScan Lync optic chamber. A: No. The BreathScan Lync reader is factory calibrated for the life of the reader and does not require any setup, routine maintenance, recalibration, or programming. Q: Is it important for the test subject to blow through the Test Cartridges for the exact amount of time designated in the instructions? A: YES. It is critical that the test subject blow into the test cartridges with very strong force and for exactly the time period designated in the step-by-step test instructions. It is also critical that the test subject utilize from one to three total breaths to complete the test. Failure to do so may result in inaccurate test results. Test subjects who are unable to exhale breath into the test cartridge with very strong force for 30 seconds (using up to three consecutive breaths) will not get accurate test results. Q: Are results from the BreathScan Lync time-sensitive? A: Yes. Test cartridges should be inserted into the BreathScan Lync reader immediately upon completion of the test, per the step-by-step instructions found in the Akers Wellness App and the test cartridge Package Insert. Failure to immediately obtain a reading from the test cartridge will impact the results; if you are unable to obtain a reading immediately after completing the test, the subject should be re-tested using a new test cartridge. A: It is vital that the BreathScan Lync reader is properly positioned in a vertical position during the entirety of the test procedure. Always place the reader on a flat, stationary surface. If the reader tilts, the test result may be inaccurate.
Q: What happens if the test cartridge is not inserted fully to the bottom of the reader s optic chamber? A: Typically, the reader will not power On and testing will not be initiated. Be sure to push the test cartridge into the optic chamber until the bottom of the cartridge makes contact with the bottom of the chamber. Q: What is the expected life of the BreathScan Lync reader? A: The reader will occasionally need a replacement 9V battery; however, battery life is optimized by the auto on/off feature.
