IN LOVING MEMORY OF HOWARD HAMILTON: APICS North Texas Members, It is with great sadness that we share with you the loss of Howard Hamilton, PhD in May 2017. Howard joined the Board of Directors in 1993 as Special Projects Director. His years of experience as a member of ASQC were a valuable asset to our chapter. Howard worked for Collins, Rockwell, and Acatel before retiring. On the North Texas APICS Board, he served on the by-laws committee, when it was rewritten in the 90's. He also assisted with TEAM when it was in Dallas for several years in the 90'. Howard participated in the support of many of the Six Packed Conferences held in the Dallas area. He served as Secretary, Treasurer, Pres-Elect, and was the Chapter President in 2000/2001. He then stepped into the VP membership slot, before moving to Arrangements. Howard became the Chapter Historian/Parliamentarian, he added Tech Sessions to those roles. Howard continued serving the chapter as Historian/Parliamentarian, Board Advisor, Nomination Committee Chair and any other area where there was a need. Howard was also active in the Terra Grande District of APICS and attended many District events and is well known throughout the District for his fellowship and contributions. He was a regular at the Dallas Marathon Aide Station supported by the chapter every year regardless of the weather conditions. As you can see Howard s dedication and contributions to the North Texas Chapter of APICS were many as he continued to serve. He will truly be missed and we are honored and thankful to have known him. MAY PDM REVIEW: WHAT S YOUR EQ? OVERCOMING LEADERSHIP DERAILERS AND GEARING UP FOR CAREER SUCCESS Speaker: Jude Olson, PhD, ACC President ICF -NT/ Executive Coach The Speaker for the May PDM was Jude Olson, PhD, ACC, she is also President ICF - NT and an Executive Coach for ICF. The subject was WHAT's YOUR EQ? Overcoming Leadership Derailers and gearing up for career success. Most of the discussion included of professional behavior and its importance in our career. She explained along the way what she saw during her career, and what we currently see in work place. In her lecture she explained about the 3E's at workplace Emotional Intelligence: Being responsible in your professional behavior can shape our present, and future career. Miss Olsen explained primarily how emotional quotient, which means emotional Intelligence in our profession, can help future leaders be successful at work by making use of their emotional intelligence by rather being diplomatic and not having an outburst of real emotions at work. Executive Derailleur: We have heard of a boss who are risk takers, firm decision makers - these are qualities of a leader. At times, these qualities can eventually turn into negatives after practiced the same way for years. For example, when a decision is made without group members full approvals, opinions of members are not welcome. A group member within the company or co-workers from other groups or organizations may not be used to these kind of behaviors, and that can cause conflicts and the quality of a leader may turn into a derailleur. Executive Coaching: Conscious thoughts, feelings and actions can improve with flexibility. There is coaching in place for executives/leaders to improve and enhance derailleurs. Self-awareness, selfmanagement, social awareness and relationship management are some of the tools that are used by coaches to practice better performance for leaders. The discussion was eye opening and we all could relate to situations at our work place and characteristics of the derailleurs in our careers. It is a subject each company needs to evaluate for overall company improvements in relationships. Written by: Sanjida Rashid 13901 Midway Rd, Ste 102-281, Dallas, TX 75244 info@ntxapics.org Page 3
