Starlink 9003T1 T1/E1 Digital Transmission A
Digital Audio via T1/E1 C ombining Moseley s unparalleled reputation for high quality RF aural Studio-Transmitter Links (STLs) with the performance and speed of today s telecommunications technology, the Starlink SL9003T1 takes audio program conveyance to a dramatic new level. This all-digital modular system for transmitting CD-quality audio over T1/E1 circuits is designed to convey audio in its cleanest, purest form with no compression reliably, economically and with the maximum amount of flexibility. An open-architecture system, the Starlink SL9003T1 lets you take advantage of decreasing T1/E1 rates for multiple STL/TSL bi-directional applications. Its building block approach allows you to configure to your exact requirements with room to grow as your needs change. With world-class design and a range of intelligent multiplexer and versatile audio modules, the Starlink SL9003T1 offers you easy and seamless connectivity to the outside world. Common Platform Uncompressed 16-bit linear audio AES/EBU and analog I/Os on a single module 32, 44.1 or 48 khz sample rates Intelligent multiplex with drop and insert Optional voice, data, or ISO Layer II cards Flexible network configurations Modular Design Open Architecture The versatility and power of the Starlink SL9003T1 come from a complete range of personality modules and daughter cards that can be housed in a three-rack unit mainframe. The mainframe can house up to eight application-specific modules. Creating a custom Starlink SL9003T1 is just a matter of choosing the appropriate personality modules and daughter cards. Linear digital audio can be delivered by using the SL9003SE and SL9003SD source encoder and decoder modules, two V.35 T1/E1 drivers, external Adtran CSUs and the mainframes. Full duplex bi-directional T1/E1 audio transmission is possible by addition of another source encoder and decoder pair. To carry additional audio channels on the system, just add the SL9000DM four-port multiplexer. Transmitter control and operational communications can even be incorporated, with the simple addition of data and voice cards.
Network Management Integrated Intelligence Most parameters of the Starlink 9003T1 and its personality modules are programmable from either the front panel or the Windowsbased Graphic Interface software. Extensive Network Management System features are standard with the Starlink 9003T1. Flash memory permits software upgrades. Personality Modules Source Encoder/Decoder The stereo source encoder and decoder modules allow for 16-bit linear PCM at 32, 44.1 or 48 khz sample rates. Modules Source Encoder, 16-bit linear PCM audio encoding module; AES/EBU input / output, sample rate converter 32, 44.1, or 48 khz. (includes daughter card for discrete XLR audio inputs / outputs); test tone generator. Source Decoder (mate for encoder), 16-bit linear decoding, AES/EBU and analog outputs available simultaneously. 4-Port Digital Multiplexer, sequentially samples and transmits signals from encoders and decoders on a T1/E1 line (four optional daughter cards can piggy-back on the mux: Voice, 4-wr E&M, RS-232, V.35, & RS-449). Optional ISO/MPEG coding can convey compressed audio channels. Both modules accept and deliver discrete analog and AES/EBU digital audio (loss of AES/EBU input will cause an automatic switch to analog). In addition, an optional daughter car for digital I/O connections can be added for configurations not requiring a multiplexer. Multiple source encoder/decoder modules can be connected to a single multiplexer. Intelligent Multiplexer The multiplex card acts as the controller whenever more than one personality module is used. A single multiplexer eliminates multiple levels of framing while significantly increasing throughput. Additional multiplex cards can be added for more channels. Each multiplexer can be used to transmit four additional high-speed data streams, of voice, or data rates up to the available aggregate rate. These plug-in daughter cards also allow the fourport multiplexer to opereate in a stand-alone mode. Customer Service Unit (CSU) All SL9003T1 systems are provided with Adtran TSU Customer Service Units which support either AMI or B8ZS coding and D4 or ESF framing. CSU features include network performance and reporting, test loopbacks and extensive selftest diagnostics to keep your system operating at peak performance. E1 CSUs, are provided for 2.048 Mbps applications. Source Encoder Full support for all MPEG data modes and rates Auto sensing AES/EBU interface for 32-48KHz sampling Simultaneous linear and source-coded digital outputs Plug-in ISO/MPEG source coder Standard analog and AES/EBU input Built-in digital test Source Decoder Selectable linear or source-coded digital inputs Plug-in ISO/MPEG source decoder Simultaneous analog and AES/EBU outputs Built-in digital test tone
Daughter Cards For Encoders/Decoders To convey additional stereo pairs in 1.544 Mbps source coding algorithms are necessary. The Starlink SL9003T1 allows the user to take advantage of ISO/MPEG Layer II encoding. ISO/MPEG Layer Common Platform Uncompressed 16-bit linear audio AES/EBU and analog I/Os on a single module 32, 44.1 or 48 khz sample rates Intelligent multiplex with drop and insert Optional voice, 4-wr E&M, data, or ISO Layer II Flexible network configurations II is based on the psychoacoustic properties of the human ear, in particular spectral masking, to reduce perceived loss while maintaining coding efficiency. For Multiplexers Each of the four ports can be used for either high or low speed data or voice. Asynchronous and synchronous data speeds, 4W interfaces and E&M signaling are all supported. Digital LineDrivers A choice of RS-449/EIA530 or V.11/V.35 cards can connect the mux or source encoder/decoder with external digital circuits/lines. These line drivers and the multiplexer provide time-slot assignments and channel-associated signaling between terminals, ensuring precision conveyance of audio material. 4-Port Mux Up to four user-specified daughter cards for voice, low-speed, and high-speed data Windows-based configuration Bus interface for up to eight personality modules Independent Mux and De-mux functions 4-wire voice card; 16, 24, 32, 64kbps; E&M 300bps-38.4kbps low speed asynchronous data card RS-232 8kbps 2048kbps high speed synchronous data card V.35, RS-449, EIA-530
