Contents Tech/business positioning of NB-IoT Short term market opportunities in Italy vs overlay solutions Where do we are? 3GPP standard status Short term next steps New verticals and use cases towards 5G 2

Opportunity in LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) market Tech/business positioning of NB-IoT Market segmentation (based on Bandwidth) Connections in 2020 Requirements Supported Technology High Smart City, Electronic billboards >10Mbps 3G/4G Medium Low Smart Home, Wearable M2M Sensors, Meters, Smart Parking, Smart agriculture <1Mbps Low power consumption Small Packet (<100kbps) Deep Coverage (20dB) Low power (10 Years) Low cost (<$5) GSM/GPRS/C DMA, LTE MTC (R12, R13) Zigbee*, Bluetooth*, WiFi*, Sigfox*, LoRa*, WMBus*, NB-IoT We need Advanced Technology to boost LPWA Market *Not all the requirements are fulfilled by this technologies 3

Short term market opportunities in Italy Focus on smart metering Mass market volumes 22M 15M 37M TBD Gas Water Electricity Other (e.g. district heating) Italian regulatory AEEGSI has planned a rollout of 11M gas meters by end 2018 Smart meters should be remote read and managed using two-way radio communication between the meter and the Utilities central system. Currently TIM is providing 2G M2M SIM and running pilot projects based on WMBus 169MHz communication AEEGSI is going to regulate also other smart metering use cases Several consultations have been carried out 4

Re-use existing Cellular network 20dB Coverage Gain $5 Module 10 Years Battery Life NB-IoT Carrier-grade Reliability 4G-Like Security Performance (licensed frequency) Standard solution (economy of scale) 50k Devices/Cell Roaming NB-IoT enables the LTE cellular network to offer IoT solutions in a reliable and secure way, reusing existing network asset based on global 3GPP standard 7

Where do we are? 3GPP Standardization status Work Item on NB-IoT Standard ready 2014 Dec. 2015 First studies on MTC requirements Sept. 2015 June 2016 Work Item description Approved Standardization began in 2014 with a study to determine the requirements for massive MTC and to investigate whether proposed radio-access designs could meet the set of requirements This led to the definition of NB-IoT design targets In September 2015, a new work item named NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) was approved and started to define the specification for NB-IoT In June 2016, NB-IoT is completed 100% as planned RAN Core part: 100% (see approved WID update in RP-160933) RAN WG1: 100%; RAN WG2: 100%; RAN WG3: 100%; RAN WG4: 100%; RAN4 performance part: expected to be completed in September (same completion time as emtc and EC-GSM) SA part: 100% (see SA2 chairman report in SP-160283) CT part: 100% (see CT chairman report in SP-160444) 8

Short term next steps: enlarge the ecosystem NB-IoT architecture Third parties Service/application Actions Easy integration of third party service/application Service/ application IOT Connectivity platform esim Fast service deployment Fast adoption of esim NB-IoT Core Network Radio Access Network Fast implementation of 3GPP standard, as SW upgrade of LTE network Terminals (depending on use case) Certification bodies 9
