Introduction The OLED Display is the new display module from Racelogic and is the perfect partner to VBOX data logging systems. It is fully waterproof, and features sharp graphics and simple operation for quick and easy in-vehicle use. The OLED display has the ability to show a range of parameters, including live and max speed, g-force, and lap times, and can quickly switch between display modes using the Up and Down buttons. The display has the capacity to start and stop logging in conjunction with some VBOX models, and can also report logging status. The unit has an internal accelerometer that flips the screen in accordance with the way it is mounted, and the option to invert screen colours to match lighting conditions makes it very flexible. The display is available in three different versions, featuring the option of Lemo, Fischer or Mini Din (PS2) connections, giving compatibility with all types of VBOX, Video VBOX and Performance Box Sport. The small size, light weight, and clear parameter display make the OLED ideally suited for the clear dashboard display of the vehicle data. Key Features Can recognise and use data from standard VBOX CAN Output. Can recognise and use serial data output to all VBOXs. OLED Setup Video VBOX/ Video VBOX LITE/VBOX Micro/PerformanceBox Sport When setting up the OLED for use over RS232 serial with a Video VBOX, Video VBOX Lite, VBOXMicro, or PB Sport it is important to connect the OLED to the right port. The OLED has pass through CAN on both connectors but only has a serial connection on the uppermost port (With buttons on the left as in the picture below). Laptiming data transfer, logging control and logging status is controlled via the serial stream. If the serial data from the Video VBOX or Video VBOX Lite is not connected to the right port of the OLED, Logging control and Laptiming will not work. If Start/Finish and splits have been setup in the Video VBOX or Video VBOX LITE scene, they will be automatically transferred to the OLED display when connected via the serial cable. A message will inform you when the successful transfer of start/finish and split information has taken place. VBOX3i/VBOX3/VB20SX/VB20SL/VB20SL3 When setting up the OLED for use with VBOX3i, VBOX3, VB20SX, VB20SL, or VB20SL3 the CAN data is used for the display of velocity, calculation of Lap times and G-force etc and is also used for logging control. Connection to the OLED from any of these units can be made to either port on the OLED display. 30/09/2009 7

Display Modes The device has different display modes that are accessed using the Up and Down buttons. The data displayed on each screen is calculated at all times, even if it is not currently displayed. The name of each display mode is displayed for one second before displaying the actual screen for the chosen mode. When powered up the OLED will display the previously used mode, for example if the OLED is mainly used to display Lap-times the unit can be quickly set up in a vehicle without the need for any further configuration. Speed Display 1 - Live Speed In this mode the screen will display a large clear speed value to 2 DP, including the units. The Number of decimal places displayed can be 0,1 or 2; this option is adjustable through the OLED menu, see below. Logging Control If the button is pressed, when this display is active, then the OLED display will toggle the logging mode of the connected VBOX. Provided that the OLED display is connected to one of the following via CAN - VBOX 3i, VBOX III, VB20SX, VB20SL, and VB20SL3, or to the following via serial Video VBOX, Video VBOX Lite, VBOX Micro, and PerformanceBox Sport. 30/09/2009 8

Logging Status. In this screen the OLED will indicate that the connected VBOX is logging data by scrolling a bar across the bottom of the display. Speed Display 2 - Max Speed This is a peak hold speed display indicated by the additional on screen word MAX. In this mode the screen will display a large clear speed value to 0, 1 or 2 DP, including the units. Max Speed Reset If the button is pressed then the unit will reset the displayed maximum speed value. 30/09/2009 9

Lap timing - Lap Time All Lap times and Split times are calculated from interpolation of time and split line position between sample points, in order to calculate all times with 0.01 second resolution. If Start/Finish and splits have been setup in the Video VBOX or Video VBOX LITE scene, they will be automatically transferred to the OLED display when connected via the serial cable. In this mode the screen can display either a live Rolling Lap time or a Static Last lap time and the Lap count. The choice of Rolling Lap time or Static Lap time is set from within the SETUP Menu screen, see below. New Lap times When a start/finish line is crossed then the new lap time is displayed for a configurable time period. This time period can be adjusted in the SETUP Menu, see below. Fastest Lap displays The OLED display compares each new lap time with the last best time. If the new lap time is faster than the last best lap time the unit displays the message best lap and the time difference. 30/09/2009 10

If the Current Lap time is slower than the previous best then the difference between the new Lap time will and the Best lap time will be display be shown with a + sign. Split line display If Split lines have been set inside the display then the display will display the split time in the same format and size as the Lap Time for 2 seconds when the split is crossed 30/09/2009 11

Setting a Start/finish line It is possible to set a new Start/Finish line by pressing the button when crossing the new start/finish line. If new Split lines are required as well then the set start finish and splits option under the Setup Menu should be used instead. If the button is pressed for less than one second then the unit will set a new Start/finish line at the point that the button was pressed. It will also then display the message New Start line Set Press to cancel for 5 seconds. If at the end of that time the button has not been pressed then the display will continue to calculate Lap time from the new Start line. If the button is pressed within 5 seconds then the display will ignore the new start/finish line and use the previously recognised Start/finish line. If the Display is detecting that speed <0.5km/h, then it will not try to set a new start/finish line and it will display vehicle is not moving for 5 seconds. 30/09/2009 12

Longitudinal G force - Long. acc The Long.acc screen will display a live smoothed longitudinal acceleration figure in g to 2DP or in m/s 2 to 1 DP. It will also capture and display the Maximum +/- ve accel value. If the button is pressed then the unit will reset the captured Maximum Long accel value. Lateral G force - Lat.acc The Lat.acc screen will display a live smoothed longitudinal acceleration figure g to 2DP or in m/s 2 to 1 DP. It will also capture and display the Maximum +/- ve accel value. If the button is pressed then the unit will reset the captured Maximum Lat accel value. 30/09/2009 13

Setup Menu - MENU The OLED display menu is accessed by pressing the button. The menu contains the following options, which can be scrolled through with the and buttons. Speed Units If the button is pressed the unit enters the Speed Units window which offers the user the ability to select the units of the displayed speed, indicated by a tick on the current selection. Options: Km/h, Mph, Knots and Exit. 30/09/2009 14

Accel Units If the button is pressed the unit enters the Accel Units window which offers the user the ability to select the units of the displayed acceleration, indicated by a tick on the current selection. Options: G, metres/s 2 and Exit. Speed Decimal Places The user has the option of selecting how many decimal places the speed value displays, pressing the button will cycle through 0, 1, and 2 decimal places. 30/09/2009 15

Rolling Lap Time Pressing the button when the Rolling Lap Time function is highlighted will cause the OLED to display a live rolling Lap Time. However when the Start/Finish or split lines are crossed then the OLED will display the new lap or split time for a set time period. This display time period is configured through the menu option Split time display period below. Split to Split time When this option is selected then the calculated Split times will be Split to split and not accumulative from the start of the lap. Split Time Display Period When this option is selected then the calculated Split times will be Split to split and not accumulative from the start of the lap. One Shot Mode When One Shot Mode is enabled, when the user comes to a stop, after 2s, the screen counts down from 5 then shows ARMED Start when ready. If the user pulls away before 1 is shown on the screen, nothing changes. During or after 1 is shown, when the user pulls away the lap time measurement is started as if they had crossed a start/finish. If a lap had been running up to this point, the time is discarded. After correct movement has been detected, and a one-shot start has started, a normal start/finish line cannot be triggered for 3 seconds. 30/09/2009 16

Set Start & Splits Pressing the button causes the OLED to display the Set Start/finish line screen. When this screen is showing and the button is pressed while the vehicle is moving, the unit uses the current position to create a new Start/finish line for Lap time calculation. After the button is pressed and a new Start/finish point is set, the OLED displays Start/finish set for a few seconds, before displaying Set Split point 1. When this screen is showing, the first split point can be set, by pressing the button. Alternatively, the button moves onto the next Set Split line display screen. The button can be pressed to go back up to a previous Split line or back to the Set Start/finish screen. To exit the Set split points menu press the button to scroll through remaining Set split point screens until the main Menu is displayed again. If a new Start/finish or Split line is set then the Lap count, Best Lap and all the Best split time values automatically reset. Reset Laptiming Data If the button is pressed when this option is highlighted, the Lap count, Best Lap and Best Splits times are reset. Clear Start & Splits Pressing the button when this option is highlighted causes the OLED to clear the Start/finish and split lines currently set. 30/09/2009 17

Brightness If the button is pressed the brightness can be set using the up and down arrow buttons between 1 and 5. Press the button to exit the Brightness edit mode. Invert Screen Colour Selecting this menu option with the button causes the screen to invert colours and show black on white text rather than the default white on black text. Use Outline Font By selecting this option with the button, the OLED display will use an outline font instead of a solid font for greater clarity. The colour of the outline font will be governed by which screen colour the OLED is currently set to display from the Invert Screen Colour menu. If this option is selected a tick will be visible to the right of the menu option. Outline Font Example 30/09/2009 18

Logging control The OLED display can determine the logging status of the connected VBOX from the CAN bus or the serial data stream depending on what VBOX it is connected to. Logging Status The OLED display shows the logging status of the connected VBOX. If the VBOX is logging, the OLED display will indicate this by scrolling a three pixel bar across the bottom of the screen. Memory usage If the card becomes more than 90% full then a warning screen flashes up for 1 second at 5 second intervals, to indicate the memory card status. Power Supply The OLED Display can accept a supply voltage in the range of 7 to 30V DC. Low current consumption results in extended battery life. 30/09/2009 19
