SYNOPSIS FOR GSM AND GPS BASED VEHICLE SPEED MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEM
Introduction We know that demand for automobile has been increased traffic and thereby causing more accidents on the road. Major accident takes place at over speed limit cross by the driver. People lose their lives because of this. So if it is possible to monitor speed of vehicle and controlled by the owner from anywhere in world will be great for the vehicle owner. For fetch the speed of vehicle this system does not need any speedometer. It took this data from GPS modem. With the help of space navigation system GPS locates the position of the vehicle where over speed occurred. So, this paper deals with the GSM-GPS module and ATMEGA 8 microcontroller mounted vehicle.
GPS Modem GPS Module Globall Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radio-navigation system formed from the constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations. The Global Positioning System is mainly funded and controlled by the U.S Departmentt of Defense (DOD). The system was initially designed for the operation of U. S. military. But today, there are also many civil users of GPS across the whole world. The civil users are allowed to use the Standard Positioning Service without any kind of charge or restrictions. Globall Positioning System tracking is a method of working out exactly where something is. A GPS tracking system, for example, may be placed
in a vehicle, on a cell phone, or on special GPS devices, which can either be a fixed or portable unit. GPS works by providing information on exact location. It can also track the movement of a vehicle or person. So, for example, a GPS tracking system can be used by a company to monitor the route and progress of a delivery truck, and by parents to check on the location of their child, or even to monitor high-valued assets in transit.
GSM Technology & GSM Modem The GSM system is the most widely used cellular technology in use in the world today. It has been a particularly successful cellular phone technology for a variety of reasons including the ability to roam worldwide with the certainty of being able to be able to operate on GSM networks in exactly the same way - provided billing agreements are in place. The GSM modem based on GSM technology is a specialized type of modem which accepts a SIM card operates on a subscriber s mobile
number over a network, just like a cellular phone. It is a cell phone without display. Modem sim300 is a triband GSM/GPRS engine that works on EGSM900MHz, DCS1800MHz and PCS1900MHz frequencies.gsm Modem is RS232-logic level compatible, i.e., it takes- 3v to -15v as logic high and +3v to +15 as logic low.max232 is used to convert TTL into RS232 logic level converter used between the microcontroller and the GSM board. Features of GSM Single supply voltage 3.2v-4.5v. Typical power consumption in SLEEP Mode: 2.5mA. SIM300 tri-band. MT,MO,CB, text and PDU mode, SMS storage: SIM card. Supported SIM Card :1.8V,3V.

Software Requirement Cross Compiler : AVR Studio 6.0 Atmel Studio 6 is the integrated development platform (IDP) for developing and debugging Atmel ARM Cortex-M and Atmel AVR microcontroller (MCU) based applications. The Atmel Studio 6 IDP gives you a seamless and easy-to-use environment to write, build and debug your applications written in C/C++ or assembly code. Programming Language : Embedded C Looking around, we find ourselves to be surrounded by various types of embedded system. Be it a digital camera or a mobile phone or a washing machine, all of them has some kind of processor functioning inside it. Associated with each processor is the embedded software. If hardware forms the body of an embedded system, embedded processor acts as the brain, and embedded software forms its soul. It is the embedded software which primarily governs the functioning of embedded systems.
