OVERVIEW The Glensound DARK1616M is an analogue to digital and digital to analogue converter designed to connect AES3 and mic/ line level analogue audio circuits to a Dante audio network. Dante network audio is a common protocol for distributing high quality linear audio over standard IP networks and it is widely used by many audio equipment manufacturers. The Glensound Dark1616M Dante audio interface will be compatible with any other manufacturers Dante audio interface. Further details of Dante network audio can be found at www.audinate.com Being designed for live on-air broadcast applications the Glensound Dark1616M has been designed with multiple redundancy capabilities. It has 2 mains power sources and it also has fully redundant network connections for both Copper & Fibre circuits. The Dark1616M provides 8 balanced AES3 inputs and 8 balanced AES3 outputs to the Dante network and 16 analogue mic/ line level inputs to the Dante network and 16 analogue line level (0dB) outputs from the Dante network on rear panel D25 connectors wired to AES59 (also known as the Tascam standard). The analogue and AES3 outputs are both always used and the same audio signal from the Dante newtork that is presented on one channels AES3 output will appear as an analogue audio signal on the equivalent analogue output. For each channel only 1 audio input signal can be sent to the Dante network, the AES3 input has priority over the analogue. Therefore if there is both an analogue and AES3 input signal for one channel only the AES3 will be sent to the Dante network. A Windows10 application (that can be downloaded from the download tab of the DARK1616M product information page on our web site) allows remote control of the gain settings of the microphone amplifiers and also provides level indication of each channel. CONNECTING THE DARK1616M TO A DANTE NETWORK The Dark1616M is a network audio device utilising the reliable and versatile Dante audio over IP protocol. Dante is a proprietary system (although very widely used) the originators of which are Audinate. The information below is only meant as a very basic guide. Full details of the power of Dante network audio and instructions for using it can be found at www.audinate.com Getting Dante Controller If you are connecting the inferno to a new Dante network the first thing you will need to do is to get the free Dante controller software from Audinate. This can be downloaded by visiting Audinate s web site at www.audinate.com Connecting Dark1616Ms To The Network Dark1616Ms can be connected to the network that you are going to use for your audio distribution simply by plugging in either, and, or any of the network connections on the front. Once connected to the network it will be possible to see the Dark1616M from within the Dante controller and route its audio circuits. Audio Over IP Network We strongly recommend that you consider your network topology carefully and would not recommend sharing broadcast audio and general data on the same network. For more details of audio over IP network structure please visit www.audinate.com Page 8 of 21

Running Dante Controller At the time of writing this manual the Dante Controller looks as per the screenshot below: The DARK1616M will have been named at the factory during test to allow them to be identified by the Dante controller. The format used for the factory name is: Dark1616M-no-103-BKLYN-II-ob7a2c Where Dark1616M-no-103 refers to the Glensound product i.e. Dark1616M and its serial no (in this case 103) and BKLYN-II-ob7a2c refers to the units Dante Brooklyn II module and its MAC address. Dante Controller TIP If you have never run Dante controller before then make sure that on the bottom left of the Dante controllers screen P or S is next to a green square as this indicates that it is connected to a network. By clicking P or S a pop up box opens to allow you to set what network interface the controller is using. Page 9 of 21

DARK1616M CONTROLLER WINDOWS 10 APPLICATION GlensoundController enables remote control of key functions for the DARK1616M, and configuration of a single or multiple DARK1616M s connected to the network. It is PC software that runs on Window 10 machines. Downloading The GlensoundController application for the DARK1616M must be downloaded. It is a zipped file containing a Windows certificate, the app and a copy of installation instructions. It can be downloaded by typing the following address in your browser: www.glensound.co.uk/software/dante/dark1616mcontroller.zip 1) Check whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit installation of Windows. Installation Make sure the correct GlensoundController download files are in a folder on your local machine. Installation of GlensoundController is a two stage process as all Windows 10 applications must have a digital certificate. If this is the first time you have installed Glensound applications, then you must first load the Glensound App Certificate. This will allow you to install GlensoundController and any further Glensound Windows 10 applications. If you already have the Glensound digital certificate you can go straight to Stage 2. Stage 1 Installing the Glensound App Certificate 1) Make sure that you have adminstrator rights on your system. If not, please contact your system administrator. 2) Windows 10 must allow Developer mode applications. To do this, open the Settings app and select the Update & security icon. Then go to the For developers tab. Select Developer mode. NB after installation of the certificate and app it is recommended to turn Developer mode off. Page 10 of 21

3) From the files downloaded from the Glensound website, double-click on GlensoundApp.cer. a. Click Install Certificate. b. Select Local Machine and click Next. c. Select the option "Place all certificates in the following store" and then click Browse. d. Select the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" store and click OK then Next. e. Click Finish. f. You will get a Security Warning asking if you want to install the certificate. Click Yes. g. Click OK. The Glensound App Certificate will now be installed. Certificates for the current user can be managed by starting certlm.msc. Stage 2 Installing The GlensoundController Application 1) From the files downloaded from the Glensound web site, unzip the files to a local folder. 2) Select the 32 bit or 64 bit folder that is appropriate for your operating system. 3) Right-click on the Add-AppDevPackage.ps1 file and select Run with PowerShell. a. If you do not have permissions to run scripts on your machine, you may get an error at this point, even though this file is digitally signed. If so, please contact your System Administrator to change the Execution Policy to a less restrictive one to allow GlensoundController to be installed. This can be changed back after installation. 4) If you get an Execution Policy Change warning, press Y and then enter to accept. This should only happen on the first application installation after installing the Glensound App Certificate. 5) The installation folder can now be deleted. 6) To run GlensoundController, click the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of the screen, and find it in the All apps list and double click. Stage 3 Turn Off Developer Mode This is optional, but highly recommended, as once the app and certificate have been installed they will run with developer mode turned off. To do this, open the Settings app and select the Update & security icon. Then go to the For developers tab. De-select Developer mode. Uninstalling GlensoundController Find the app in the All apps list then right-click and select Uninstall. Page 11 of 21

SETTING UP ON A PEER TO PEER NETWORK General In this kind of network there is no domain and possibly no DHCP server. One example is when a Dark1616M device is connected to a laptop either directly or through a simple switch. In Windows 10 such a network is by default untrusted and Windows will block any incoming traffic. As a result the Dark1616M Controller app may not detect the device or show it with the name in red font (meaning unresponsive). Blocking of incoming traffic on untrusted networks is not directly a function of the Windows firewall but is part of the security policy for Windows Store applications. Windows calls untrusted networks "public" or "guest", while the trusted ones are called "private". In order to make Vita Controller work, the network that it operates on must be made trusted (private). How To Tell If You Have A Public Or Private Connection Below, a step-by-step guide is given showing a case where the computer has two Ethernet adapters. One is connected to a corporate network and provides internet access, while the other is connected directly to a Dark1616M device. For laptops with a Wi-Fi adapter the steps are the same. 1) Open Settings and then open Network and Internet. Then click on the blue link "Network and Sharing Center". Note the list of the active networks. Before Dark1616M is connected there is one active network: Page 17 of 21

After connecting Dark1616M it will show this: This may take quite a lot of time. Finally the network is detected as untrusted (public): The above steps help identifying the network used by Dark1616M. If it is "public" then continue with the next steps. Page 18 of 21

Changing From Public To Private Go to the Download tab at http://www.glensound.co.uk/product-details/dark-1616m/ Download the Set_Unidentified_Networks_Private file. This is a zipped.reg file and should be saved in a known location on your pc. Then extract the zip file to your desktop. Locate the extracted file on your desktop and right click, select Merge then select Run. Reboot the PC for the settings to take effect. Page 19 of 21
