Installing Joomla 3.0.11 To start installing Joomla 3.X you have to copy the zipped file Joomla_3.0.1-Stable-Full_Package.zip to the folder in which you want to install Joomla 3.X. On a web host this is normally the folder public_html located in the root directory i.e. /public_html. Once Joomla_3.0.1-Stable-Full_Package.zip is copied to the appropriate folder it has to be unzipped first before Joomla can be installed. Use the webhosts cpanel to unzip Joomla_3.0.1-Stable-Full_Package.zip in /public_html. Once all the folders and files from Joomla_3.0.1-Stable-Full_Package.zip archive have been extracted Joomla 3.X is ready for installation. To start the installation process type in the URL of the website in your favorite Browser and hit GO or the Enter Key as shown in diagram 1. Diagram 1 The Joomla installation screen as shown in diagram 2 will be displayed in your Browser. Diagram 2 1
The screen as shown in diagram 2 has three tabs. They are: 1. Configuration 2. Database 3. Overview The Configuration Screen Settings Select Language: This drop down list box permits the website owner to choose the language that Joomla will work in. Joomla can work in multiple languages. We ve left the first choice English (United States) selected. In the Main Configuration section add the following information. Site Name: Enter the name of your Joomla website. Description: Enter a brief description of what the website delivers. Try and keep the description as accurate as possible and within approximately 155 characters. About 20 to 25 words. When Google indexes the website and picks up its description, Google truncates the description to about 155 characters. Admin Email: Enter an active administrator Email ID here. Joomla will send all its admin messages to this Email ID. Admin Username: Enter an appropriate Admin Username here. Please do not use admin for security purposes. Use any other name. We recommend that you use any random Alpha Numeric value rather than a proper name again for security purposes. Joomla does not accept anything other than alpha numeric values as a user name. Special characters are not allowed. Admin Password: Enter an appropriate Admin Password here. We recommend that you use a strong Password. Make it any random collection of Alpha / Numeric / Special characters, with at least one numeric value and one UPPER case value Special characters are allowed in a Joomla Admin password. Special Characters are: ( ) { } [ ] < > # @! % : ;, & and so on. Strong Password example: myjoom323#;}bucky Site Offline: Set this to No if you want the site to be instantly visible when installed OR to Yes if you do not want the site to be instantly visible when installed. Since we wanted the site to be instantly visible when installed we left the setting to No. 2
Click Next that the top right hand side of the screen when all the Configuration entries have been done. The screen as shown in diagram 3 will be displayed in the Browser. Diagram 3 The screen as shown in diagram 3 is the Database configuration screen in Joomla 3.X. The Database Screen Settings Database Type: This is where you inform Joomla of the type of database engine in use on the website. Most commonly use is MySQL or MySQLi. We ve left this as MySQLi because we are using the MySQLi database engine on our website. To know more about which other database engines Joomla works with take a quick look at Joomla s technical documentation. 3
Host Name: This is where you inform Joomla as to where you ve hosted the database. Often the database hosted on the same computer where Joomla is installed. In that case enter localhost here. If the database is hosted elsewhere what needs to be entered her is the Hostname of the webserver where the MySQL database is hosted or the IP of the webserver where the database is hosted. If in doubt this information will always be available with your hosting company and can be obtained via an Email or phone call to their customer service people. User Name: Enter the database User name that will be used to access the database. This was set during the Joomla pre-install tasks earlier. Password: Enter the password that the user will use to connect with the database engine running on the web host. This was done during the Joomla pre-install tasks earlier. Database Name: Enter the database name here. This was set during the Joomla pre-install tasks earlier. Table Prefix: This is a randomly generated table prefix that Joomla will add before each table name it creates for its own use. A table prefix is used for security reasons. Should you want to use your own table prefix, simply delete the table prefix visible using the backspace key and enter any table prefix of your choice. Old Database Process: If you are upgrading an existing Joomla installation then choose Backup. The Joomla install process will first backup all the existing tables and their data before doing the Joomla 3.X installation. We strongly recommend doing this if you are upgrading a Joomla 2.5.X website to a Joomla 3.X website. If you are installing Joomla 3.X for the very first time, then it does not really matter whether you choose Backup or Remove. We have left the default choice active Backup. Once these database configuration tasks have been completed click Next located at the top right hand side to the database configuration screen. The screen as shown in diagram 4 will be displayed in the Browser. This screen simply displays a complete, detailed, overview of all of Joomla 3.X pre-installation attributes for you to see. Do check carefully that all of the Pre-installation Check and Recommended settings are green as shown in diagram 3. If any of these are flagged in red then these issues have to be fixed first, for Joomla 3.X to install successfully. In our case all of these attributes are green as shown in diagram 3, hence Joomla 3.X is ready for installation. 4

Click Remove installation folder and this job is taken care of for you by Joomla s installation process itself.
