omg Release Notes 3.14 Release Information Important Notice Due to the nature of wireless communications, transmission and reception of data can never be guaranteed. Data may be delayed, corrupted (i.e., have errors) or be totally lost. Although significant delays or losses of data are rare when wireless devices such as the Sierra Wireless modem are used in a normal manner with a well-constructed network, the Sierra Wireless modem should not be used in situations where failure to transmit or receive data could result in damage of any kind to the user or any other party, including but not limited to personal injury, death, or loss of property. Sierra Wireless accepts no responsibility for damages of any kind resulting from delays or errors in data transmitted or received using the Sierra Wireless modem, or for failure of the Sierra Wireless modem to transmit or receive such data. Safety and Hazards Do not operate the Sierra Wireless modem in areas where cellular modems are not advised without proper device certifications. These areas include environments where cellular radio can interfere such as explosive atmospheres, medical equipment, or any other equipment which may be susceptible to any form of radio interference. The Sierra Wireless modem can transmit signals that could interfere with this equipment. The driver or operator of any vehicle should not operate the Sierra Wireless modem while in control of a vehicle. Doing so will detract from the driver or operator s control and operation of that vehicle. In some states and provinces, operating such communications devices while in control of a vehicle is an offence. Limitations of Liability This manual is provided as is. Sierra Wireless makes no warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement. The recipient of the manual shall endorse all risks arising from its use. The information in this manual is subject to change without notice and does not represent a commitment on the part of Sierra Wireless. SIERRA WIRELESS AND ITS AFFILIATES SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM LIABILITY FOR ANY AND ALL DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, GENERAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUE OR ANTICIPATED PROFITS OR REVENUE ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE ANY SIERRA WIRELESS PRODUCT, EVEN IF SIERRA WIRELESS AND/OR ITS AFFILIATES HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES OR THEY ARE FORESEEABLE OR FOR CLAIMS BY ANY THIRD PARTY. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in no event shall Sierra Wireless and/or its affiliates aggregate liability arising under or in connection with the Sierra Wireless product, regardless of the number of events, occurrences, or claims giving rise to liability, be in excess of the price paid by the purchaser for the Sierra Wireless product. Customer understands that Sierra Wireless is not providing cellular or GPS (including A-GPS) services. These services are provided by a third party and should be purchased directly by the Customer. SPECIFIC DISCLAIMERS OF LIABILITY: CUSTOMER RECOGNIZES AND ACKNOWLEDGES SIERRA WIRELESS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR AND SHALL NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DEFECT OR DEFICIENCY OF ANY KIND OF CELLULAR OR GPS (INCLUDING A-GPS) SERVICES. omg-ed-160303 Rev 1.6.2 2

2. New Features / Enhancements 2.1. Management Tunnel Certificate The (omm) management tunnel certificate has been updated. (3445) Note: this update was first introduced in 3.14.1. The management certificate on omg versions prior to 3.14.1 will expire on November 8, 2016. After this date, the omg will stop reporting to the omm. Customers are advised to upgrade their omg software to the latest version as soon as possible.. 2.2. Pilot Ping This is an enhancement to the WAN link behavior during connection establishment to more accurately determine the status of the data path and avoid declaring a link available for use before it is capable of data transport. At least one link monitor is recommended to be configured and enabled for each WAN link. The change in behavior is as follows: when a link monitor is enabled for a WAN link, the omg now sends an initial ping known as a pilot ping - to the link monitor target before declaring the link as available for data transport. Notes: 1. This enhancement imposes a requirement that if the link monitor uses a Fully Qualified Domain Name or is set to Automatic, there must be a reachable DNS server on the WAN connection to resolve the pilot ping name into an IP address. If there is no DNS server defined or it is unreachable, the link will not be declared UP. 2. For units with pre 3.14.3 software configured with no DNS server in WAN Wi-Fi Network profiles (e.g. they may have static IP but no DNS server), it is necessary to supply a DNS server IP address even if the link monitor target is also specified to be an IP address. If no operational DNS server can be specified, the Wi-Fi default gateway IP address is recommended. This configuration change should be applied before the upgrade in order for the WAN Wi-Fi link to come up. omg-ed-160303 Rev 1.6.2 June 27, 2016 7

VPN 3. Addressed Problems Multi-Tunnel VPN configuration disabled with FIPS version of 3.14.3. (3994) Reporting Under certain conditions the omg stops reporting to the omm Management System even when it is still online (4032) omg-ed-160303 Rev 1.6.2 June 27, 2016 8

4. Upgrade Notes omg Configuration with ocm VPN Server Users with omgs running R 3.13.0 and higher, and ocm 1.4.2 or higher should note that if an omg is configured using an FQDN as the server address, and the connection is not already using an ID, then the ocm configuration for the connection must include an id of @FQDN (eg. @ocm.company.com). FIPS Upgrades Customers are required to purchase the correct omg configuration and licenses to use FIPS-140-2 compliant VPN encryption modes. Only customers who already have FIPS software installed on the omgs may do Over-the-Air (OTA) upgrade to the latest FIPS release. Over-the-Air upgrade of a non-fips to a FIPS software release is not supported. omg-ed-160303 Rev 1.6.2 June 27, 2016 9

5. Known Issues Network Operator Image Switching and Dual Radio Module Configurations Gateway configurations that contain two MC7354 radio modules do not currently support Network Operator Switching and radio module firmware update. This will be resolved in an upcoming software release. Configurations that have a single MC7354 or single M7354 and Band 14 module fully support image switching. 12-lead EKG Bluetooth connections and Pantech UML-290 There is an issue which prevents EKG 12-lead units using Bluetooth (Zoll E-Series and Phillips) from transmitting to its server when used with Pantech UML290. The only workaround at this time is to upgrade the unit to use an MC7354 radio module. omg-ed-160303 Rev 1.6.2 June 27, 2016 10
