INTRODUCTION TracePro 7.6 is a minor release. This document serves as a guide for you to transition from TracePro 7.5 to 7.6. The major enhancements in TracePro 7.6 are reorganized menus, a new editor for editing Scheme files, a new Analysis Toolkit for enhanced Candela plots, and other minor features. WHAT S NEW IN TRACEPRO 7.6? Changes in TracePro 7.6 compared to 7.5 are summarized as follows: Reorganized menus o The Insert menu has been renamed Geometry o Functions on the Utilities menu have been moved to more logical menu locations o A new main menu item, Optimize, has been added The Scheme Macro Editor has been replaced with Notepad++, a full-featured, programmer s editor with a scheme language template The incident Ray Table now has a column for OPL (Optical Path Length) A new setting: Default View in the View Options dialog box New Ray File Wavelength Editor on the Define menu New Analysis Toolkit for enhanced plots of ray data A new tool: Texture Optimizer II for creating repetitive microstructure on curved surfaces Diffuser property catalogs from Brightview and Bayer Solar Utility Enhancements multiple solar tracking solutions and calculation of turbidity over a time period REORGANIZED MENUS In order to better organize the TracePro user interface, several changes have been made to the menu structure. This consists of several changes: 1. The Insert menu has been renamed Geometry to better reflect the function of the menu. 2. A new main menu item, Optimize, has been added to the right of Raytrace. 3. Items from the Utilities menu have been moved to more logical locations: a. The BSDF Converter, Surface Source Property Generator, Fluorescence Property Generator, and DMD Texture Generator utilities have been move to the new Define Generate Property Data menu. b. The Solar Emulator and IES/LDT Utility have been moved to the Tools menu. c. The 2D Interactive Optimizer, 3D Interactive Optimizer, Texture Optimizer, and Texture Optimizer II have been moved to the new Optimize menu. d. The Bitmap Source utility has been moved to the Define menu. 1
e. The Utilities menu still exists, but it now has stubs to remind you where the features formerly on this menu can be found. NOTEPAD++ FOR EDITING SCHEME MACROS The Scheme Editor has been replaced with Notepad++, a full-featured, open-source, programmer s editor with a template for the scheme language. Lambda Research has enhanced Notepad++ with the ability to send scheme commands or programs from Notepad++ directly to the TracePro scheme processor for immediate execution. You can select a section of code in Notepad++, then select Plugins TracePro Send to execute the code. If no code is selected, the entire file will be sent to TracePro for execution. Notepad++ has its own help system and online documentation. Notepad++ will be installed by the TracePro installer when you install TracePro 7.6. INCIDENT RAY TABLE COLUMN: OPL The Incident Ray Table (Analysis Incident Ray Table) now has a column for Optical Path Length (OPL) at the far right of the table. Incident Ray Tables exported as text files also have the column for OPL. DEFAULT VIEW SETTING In the View Options dialog box, on the View page, a new option has been added to set the default view displayed when opening or creating a new file in TracePro. You can choose from any of the 12 orthogonal views available on the View Profiles menu. RAY FILE WAVELENGTH EDITOR The Ray File Wavelength Editor, available by selecting Define Ray File Wavelength Editor, allows you to edit the wavelengths in a binary ray file, used for defining a File Source. This is useful for simply redefining the wavelengths, or for correcting wavelength errors in published ray files. ANALYSIS TOOLKIT The Analysis Toolkit, available by selecting Tools Analysis Toolkit, allows you make enhanced plots do spectrum analysis on raytrace data. The Analysis Toolkit is also available from the Incident Ray Table. 2
TEXTURE OPTIMIZER II The Texture Optimizer II, available by selecting Optimize Texture Optimizer II, helps you optimize structured Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) backlight components including Brightness Enhancement Films (BEFs), Turning Films, and extraction features in light guides. With a TracePro model of the LCD, the utility generates a Textured pattern of geometry on any surface optimized for uniformity or flux. The Texture Optimizer II has its own help system. DIFFUSER PROPERTY CATALOGS With the release of TracePro 7.6, two new Surface Property catalogs have been added to the TracePro Property database. These catalogs model diffusers made by Brightview and Bayer. To obtain the new catalogs, sign in to the Customer Support page at www.lambdares.com, select the Properties link, find the Surface Properties section of the page, and download the Brightview and Bayer catalogs. Then start TracePro, and import the catalogs by selecting Tools Database Import, or by pressing the F11 key. SOURCE EDITOR What was the Surface Source Editor has been enhanced to enable editing File and Grid sources as well, and renamed the Source Editor. Access the Source Editor by selecting Define Source Editor. SOLAR EMULATOR The Solar Emulator, available by selecting Tools Solar Emulator, has been enhanced to enable you to do multiple solar tracking solutions and to calculate turbidity over a time period. 3
