INSTRUCTIONS :: Dark Elf Character for Genesis :: First and foremost, this set includes a fully customized elf character for genesis. You will find the files for this set located in: my library/people/genesis/characters/damage inc/dark elves there are two morphs to this set. The first file you see is!dark Elf this is a character preset to save you time. Clicking it will load genesis into the scene, the dark elf morph dialed on it, as well as the default full skin. This morph has elven ears. The second file (dark elf no ears) is the exactly the same as above, minus the elf ears. This morph can be used with the hood in midnight huntress, so the ears do not cause the hood to billow out at the sides. You can also use this if you want to use the character, but don't want it to be an elf (Also note, you can technically use the morph that has the elf ears with the hood... but the hood will account for the ears, causing a poofiness at the sides, which some may dislike hence why there is a specific no ears morph included) Should you choose not to use the character preset, the next file is!skin-apply all. This is just a material file that will load an entire default texture (the dark blue drow) mouth and teeth textures, and eyes. You can use this if you're choosing to use a different morph entirely, as it will not load the dark elf morph like the character presets mentioned above. But you must use this file first if not using the!dark elf (as the other materials in the set are partials) From there, you will see 6 skin files drow blue and drow black (for making drow, which are much darker than other races of elves) then 4 lighter skins to make night elves and blood elves pink, purple, blue and green. Note, that these files will only load skin materials (but not the mouth and teeth, nor eyes) so you will want to apply the skin apply all material first, before choosing your own skin files (or use the character preset to load the entire thing at once) Thereafter, you have all the eye materials. These will only load eye textures. You can load 5 different normal human eye options (amber, blue, green, gray and brown) or you can load glowing eyes (amber, blue, green, white, red, purple) the eyes will actually glow, but this requires you to have age of armor's subsurface shader installed (as well as the skins, as they have subsurface scattering on them) for more info on the sss shader, see the end of this tut. the morph dials themselves (named Dark Elf and dark elf no ears) will be located under shaping, in the actor category, when you have genesis selected in the scene. Keep in mind, the dark elf morph is a full custom morph, so it will dial in the ears, face and body morph at once (they are not split up) This may make it difficult to use this morph with certain conforming hair types (as the very long ears will deform the hair) But the ears are meant to show, since no elf is really complete without them. however, should you find it unfavorable in certain circumstances (such as with the hood in midnight huntress) you can opt to use the morph included that has no ears. You can also change the settings on the dark elf morph itself (the little cog icon on the character card) and uncheck auto-follow before conforming any hair to it. This will make it so the hair does not auto-follow the ears of the morph. If, however, you use prop type hair, it will not auto-follow, naturally. Also note, to have the genesis expressions auto-follow (for when using the eyebrows), you will have to turn auto follow on, on each expression dial, using the cog on the parameter dials. This will have to be done before conforming the brows. Sadly, they are turned off by default.

:: elven eyebrows :: this set also includes an eyebrows designed for a typical dark elf type character. You will find these files located in: my library/people/genesis/clothing/damage inc/dark elves To conform to genesis, simply select all the files and drag them onto genesis. From there, you can choose from 6 different hair textures for the brows. They are: black, blue, white, red, purple, green and are located in a materials folder that is inside the clothing folder for the eyebrows. the eyebrows support any shape. Other morphs included are 5 styles and a fit to hood morph that is intended to work with the hood in midnight huntress (for those who purchase that) NOTES ABOUT THE SSS and GLOWING FEATURES: certain parts of this set glow in the dark. And by glow, I mean they actually cast light onto surrounding objects. To make these things glow, you will need to have the subsurface shader by age of armor installed in your daz studio. You can find it on daz (though I do believe it came free with daz studio 4.6) it also requires daz studio 4.6 to be installed on your machine. Most notably, you will notice the eyes glow in the dark. You will also notice other parts take on that glow, to make it an outward manifestation, as though it were casting physical light. These bleeding features are on the face/nostril of the character mats (so the surrounding parts of the eyes glow) on the eyelashes and on the eyebrows model materials. Should you find this unfavorable on any of these surrounding items, you can easily remove this glow, by selecting the items in your scene, going to your surface tab and zeroing out the sss contribution dial at the very top. This will prohibit it from bleeding out, and as long as you don't zero the glowing eyes ambient, they will still glow in dark light (but they will not bleed out) See the screenshot below. Also note, there may be some unwanted effects caused by using this in tandem with uber environment and certain lighting configurations. Should you find the outward glow unfavorable, you can also do as mention above (zero the sss contribution dial on the face/nostrils/eyelashes/eyebrows) to get rid of it.

Also note, in addition to glow in the dark features, this set also utilizes the subsurface part of the subsurface shader on the character materials. Should you ever find that it renders with artifacts, which lends a sort of scaly look on the surface (which in testing, has proved to be a non-concern for resolutions of up to 1000x1300 - but massively scaled renders have not been tested) you can also change the subsurface shading scale on all the character surfaces (which will be located lower on the surface, in with the subsurface settings) this should resolve the issue. Or you can easily turn off the sss by using the sss on off dial (and make it 0) :: midnight huntress for dark elves :: this is an outfit designed for this character set. It is sold separately on DAZ, and will work in tandem with dark elves (in color and style) :: other notes & requirements :: this set includes templates for every model in it, should you wish to make your own textures and add-ons. they are color coded for easier use. texture resolutions: character textures are 3000 x 3000 eyebrow textures are 2048 x 2048 promotional credits: Midnight huntress by me (sold in tandem with this set on daz) all the lovely backdrops are by didi_mc (among the trees 1, 2, and 3) at Renderosity (note, I have changed some of the colors on them, however) Forest princess hair by valea on daz :: known issues and troubleshooting :: The bump maps on the eyebrows are exaggerated, for scenes that are composed further back in 3D space. UPDATE: Issued September 2013 * 6 new face mats to turn tattoos off these faces are partial mats, so you will need to first load the respective full mat, then load these faces to turn the tattoos off.
