SATALIGHT ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

SATALIGHT STAND AND PROJECTOR INSTALLATION It is our recommendation, before installing the satalight, to have the IT staff install SMART Notebook software on the computer that will be used with the unit. Although the satalight will work as a touch screen without it, you may want to use SMART s virtual keyboard software, the Floating Toolbar or SMART Notebook software. You can download the software at: http:// www2.smarttech.com/st/en-us/support/sbs/. As part of the installation process, you will be prompted for a license key. You will need to visit http://smarttech.com/nb10productkey and enter your e-mail address and SMART Board serial number to obtain the license key. 1. Inspect the satalight box upon delivery. If there is any damage to the carton, make notes, notify both the shipping company and your sales representative, and take pictures of the damage to both the carton and the satalight 2. Tools needed: standard wrench set, T-20 Torx screwdriver, 5/64 and 5/32 Allen wrenches, sharp cable tie cutter, hefty slotted (flat blade) screwdriver, long shank (6 ) #0 Phillips screwdriver, #1 Phillips screwdriver. 3. To open the box, cut the plastic packaging bands and lift the lid and sides from the box. (Fig.1) Lift up the side ramp, and set into place, fastening it to the crate with the attached Velcro strips. (Fig. 2) Pry the two metal L fasteners that hold the front leg bracket to the crate, using a hefty slotted screwdriver (or you may use needle nose pliers). Roll the satalight from the packaging base, and remove the shipping bag. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 4. (Fig. 3) Remove the wireway cover from the top using the T-20 Torx screwdriver. Slide the cover up to remove. 5. Unpack the projector. You will use the projector, projector remote, batteries, AC cable, projector cable cover, and projector cable cover screw. 6. Turn the projector upside down. Place the projector on the padded projector bag. Turning the four projector leveling legs counterclockwise, unscrew and remove the leveling legs from the projector. 2 Fig. 3

7. (Fig. 4) Remove the front cover plate of the articulating arm of the base unit (inside of the base) to access the AC power strip. (Fig. 5) Holding the projector upside down with the back towards the base of the unit, line up the mounting holes on the bottom of the projector with the projector plate holes. Using the four dull silver screws from the parts bag and the 5/32 Allen wrench, install the projector onto the satalight mounting bracket. Fig. 4 Fig. 5 8. (Fig. 6) Route the supplied VGA cable (#1) and power cord supplied with the projector through the oval hole into wireway compartment. Pop out the black plastic grommet, feed the cables through the grommet, then pop the grommet back into the wireway compartment. 9. Plug the VGA cable into the Computer IN 1 jack on the projector and the power cord into the projector AC socket. Make sure the cables are firmly seated. Turn the main power switch to the projector on. Install the projector cable cover, using a long shank (6") #0 Phillips screwdriver. 10. Insure that the AC plug to the projector is firmly seated into the AC power strip. There is another AC cable plugged into the power strip. Make sure it is also firmly seated. 11. Replace the front cover plate. (Note: if you purchased the optional speakers, leave the front cover plate off until the speakers are installed.) Fig. 6 3

SMART BOARD INSTALLATION 1. (Fig. 7) Unscrew the black vertical-tilt controller from the front box. Remove the screw and wire tie assembly from the controller cables. Cut the white cable tie to separate the controller wiring, USB and the two RCA audio plugs from the bundle. Feed the USB and controller cables through the arm notch. 2. Plug the satalight into a wall AC outlet. (Fig. 7) Using the vertical-tilt controller, operate the tilt control until the articulating arm is parallel with the floor. Adjust the vertical (height from floor) as is convenient to you for installation purposes. 3. Unpack the SB640 SMART Board. Fig. 7 4. In most satalight applications, you will not use the SMART Board pen tray. Unscrew the two pen tray brackets off the back of the board, by using a Phillips screwdriver. Discard the screws (do not screw them back into board). If you are going to use the satalight in a primarystanding mode, disregard this step, and instead, install the pen tray and plug in the SMART Board controller. Fig. 8 5. Remove the gray cable from the SMART Board controller. (If you are using the pen tray, disregard this step.) 6. (Fig. 8) Determine the side to mount the controller to the SMART Board. As you are installing the board, insure your controller cables are properly routed through the cable notch in the satalight articulating arm. 7. (Fig. 9) Install the board onto the satalight articulating arm bars using the four black screws with the 5/32 Allen wrench, center the screw heads in the mounting holes and tighten. Note: Gently screw the threads in straight, take care in not cross threading the screws into the SMART Board thread sockets. These sockets may be installed at a slight angle from the factory, If this is the case, take the board off the satalight, lay it face down on its packing box (taking care to not scratch the surface), and with a Philips screwdriver shaft, slightly re-angle the socket to straighten it. Fig. 9 8. On the side where the controller will be mounted, wipe the back edge of the SMART Board with a rubbing alcohol wipe and let dry. This will clean the area where you will adhere the controller to the back of the SMART board. Temporarily pull key rings out of the controller before installing. 4

Fig. 10 9. (Fig. 10) Pull off the top sheet of the double faced Scotch VHB tape and press firmly on the controller to attach it to the back of the SMART Board frame. Replace the controller key rings. 10. Route the satalight USB cable (#5) to the SMART Board controller and plug it in. 11. Push any remaining USB and controller cables through the arm notch, to eliminate any excess cable. Attach the supplied cable tie mount to the underside of the SMART Board to tie up the routed cables. ROUTE CABLES TO COMPUTER 1. (Fig. 11) Remove the rear access cover of the unit. To remove the back panel, unscrew the four fasteners with the T-20 Torx screwdriver and pull the top of the back panel past the wire management arm. With your other hand push inward and up on the bottom to release the panel flange. Gently slide up the panel. 2. The computer cables are in a black nylon sleeve, tucked on the side of the satalight lift motor. Cut the white cable tie holding them in place and route the computer interface cables through the back grommet closest to your computer. (Fig. 12) Take care to route cables so the wire harness does not snag any other cables. 3. Replace the back panel. Fig. 11 Fig. 12 5

PROJECTOR SETUP 1. Put the two supplied AA batteries into the projector remote. 2. Turn on the projector, making sure the source is set to Computer 1. You can manually turn on the projector by pushing the power button, and selecting source by pushing the source button. Alternatively, control the projector with the remote. 3. Plug the satalight VGA cable (#11) into your computer to get a signal to the projector. If using a laptop, use the correct function-control key combination to output video to the projector. Optimal resolution is 1024x768, with one monitor displayed in a mirrored mode. If you are using a desktop computer, you may wish to use a video distribution amplifier (not supplied) to have concurrent instructor monitor/projector image signals. A VGA Y cable may be used, but it may cause signal quality loss ( jumpy picture or less brightness). If in doubt, consult an IT tech support person. 4. Use the Hitachi projector remote to properly set up the image. 5. Press the MENU button on the remote. Fig. 13 6. (Fig. 13) Press the down button on the remote to navigate to MIR- ROR. Press the left button one time to switch to H&V:INVERT. This will turn the computer image right side up, so it is now readable on the satalight SMART Board surface. 7. Navigate up one to WHISPER and press the left or right button to change the WHISPER mode from NORMAL to WHISPER. By running your projector in the WHISPER mode, lamp life will be extended by up to 50%, with only a minimal reduction in image brightness. Your projector will run cooler and quieter. Fig. 14 8. (Fig. 14) Press the FOCUS (-) button, until the text at the bottom of the satalight screen is in focus. 9. Press the D-Zoom button on the remote. Set the D-Zoom to 97. Look at the widest part of the image. The image should be just slightly less in width than the SMART Board surface. 6

10. (Fig. 15) Press the KEYSTONE button on the remote. Use the up/down buttons to select PER- FECT FIT, then press the ENTER button. 11. (Fig. 16) Using the navigation buttons on the remote, choose a corner and press ENTER, this will select that corner of the image, adjust the corner of the image using the navigation/arrow buttons to match the corresponding satalight SMART board corner. Repeat this step on each corner until the image is square on the board. Fig. 15 Fig. 16 NOTE: Your projector will not turn on if it is angled more than 40 degrees from the floor, so the satalight tilt should be at a minimal angle when starting up the projector. Refer to the projector manual/cd to learn about projector filter cleaning and lamp replacement procedures, to provide recommended maintenance and a longer life for your projector. ORIENT THE SMART BOARD 1. With computer and projector, plug the USB cable (#15) from the SMART Board into your computer. 2. The controller light on the lower right corner of the board should be lit green. The image should fill the board projection surface. If you have installed SMART Board software on the computer, you will see a blue icon with a white lifesaver ring in the Toolbar on your desktop. Click on this SMART Board Tools software icon, choose Orient from the pull down menu, and run the nine point orientation screen. Carefully touch the center of each of the nine targets, to do a final orientation of the touch screen surface. 3. Finally, install the top access wireway cover back on the unit unless you are installing the optional speakers. OPTIONAL LAPTOP ARM INSTALLATION 1. The Ergotron LX LCD/notebook arm is designed to be mounted on a desk or tabletop surface. We have adapted it for use with the satalight, therefore, Ergotron supplies more hardware than needed to mount the arm on to the satalight. The optional laptop arm is designed for use while standing next to the satalight. This allows the instructor or paraprofessional to set up software for a user. Turn to page 8 of the Ergotron assembly manual. 2. (Fig. 17) Take the notebook tray and anti-slip pads out of the box, attaching the pads as shown here, by removing the double face tape from the pads and sticking the pads to the notebook tray. Fig. 17 7

3. (Fig. 18) Turn the knobs on the back of the notebook tray, to adjust the length and angle of the laptop retaining legs. Fig. 18 4. (Fig 19) Affix the notebook tray to the Ergotron arm, using the four M4x10mm knob screws. Using a Phillips screwdriver, attach the rotation stop screw (as shown in figure 6a-b, page 12 of the Ergotron installation manual). Fig. 19 Fig. 20 5. (Fig. 20) Here is a side view of the Ergotron arm with attached notebook tray. 6. (Fig. 21) Slip the Ergotron extension arm over the black right or left laptop arm post on the satalight. These posts are located just above the height adjustable legs. If desired, once the laptop arm is in position, tighten down the laptop base clamp using the provided Allen wrench and set-screw. Fig. 21 Fig. 22 7. (Fig. 22) Slip the Ergotron arm onto the extension (shown in Ergotron Fig. 5a, page 9) Route the satalight VGA cable (#11), USB cable (#15), and audio cable (#14) to the laptop. 8. (Fig. 23) Push down on the notebook tray to change the angle of the tray and of the Ergotron arm. Put your laptop on the tray. A 36 Velcro self grip strip is provided to add extra security to attach the laptop to the tray. Apply it underneath the shelf and wrap it across the top of the laptop just above the function keys. Fig. 23 Note: If you are permanently dedicating a laptop to the satalight, you may route your laptop power supply cable through the wireway cavity. Remove the center service cover for cable routing purposes. This will allow you to easily plug a portable laptop AC transformer into the unit. 8

OPTIONAL AUDIO SYSTEM INSTALLATION 1. The optional audio system includes a pair of Bose speakers and a mounting kit. The powered speaker has a volume control knob on the front; the other is unpowered. Looking at the front of the unit, the powered speaker should be mounted on the right side, using the 6 long swivel bracket. The unpowered speaker is mounted on the left side, using the 3 long swivel bracket. 2. Open up the Bose speaker shipping box. Remove the speakers and the speaker power supply. Install the Bose AC prong adapter onto the Bose universal power supply. 3. (Fig. 24) Remove the speaker bracket parts bag from the satalight speaker bracket box. Install the tiny set screws from the parts bag into the side of the speaker brackets, using a 5/64 Allen wrench, but do not tighten. 4. (Fig. 25) Swab the bottom of the Bose speakers with an alcohol wipe. Let dry. Fig. 24 Fig. 25 5. (Fig. 26) Pop the feet off the bottom of the Bose speakers. 6. Remove the tape backing off the double face tape in the speaker bracket. Install the speaker bracket to the bottom of the Bose speaker. The bent leg on the speaker bracket should be mounted towards the front of the speaker, as shown in (Fig. 27). Tighten the set screws until they are flush with the speaker bracket. Fig. 26 Fig. 27 7. (Fig. 28) Loosen the knob on both speaker arms and remove the swivel mounts. 8. (Fig. 29) Screw one swivel mount into each speaker mount bracket. Fig. 28 Fig. 29 9

9. (Fig. 30) Mount the left swivel mount onto the frame. Use a T-20 Torx screwdriver to remove the speaker mount screws in the frame. Line up the mount base and then reattach. Adjust the 3 long swivel bracket by loosening the hand knob, then secure it to the swivel mount ball joints on the speaker bracket and on the speaker mount. Fig. 30 Fig. 31 10. Mount the powered speaker to the right side, in the same manner, using the 6 long swivel bracket. 11. Locate the satalight power strip. This is where you are going to plug in the speaker power supply. Route the speaker power cable and the audio input cables (#4, white and red RCA male jacks) through the black wireway grommet (removing the split ring grommet to thread the cables through). You will need to space the cable hoods out to feed them through the grommet hole in the satalight frame. (Fig. 32) Route these cables to the powered speaker. Plug the AC cable into the 12V Power In on the powered speaker, the speaker power supply into the power strip, and the RCA jacks into either pair of the red and white audio-in jacks on the powered speaker. Fig. 32 Fig. 33 12. Route the audio cable that is attached to the unpowered speaker, through the left and then right access holes in the wireway. (Fig. 33) Plug this auxiliary speaker audio cable into the port labeled TO LEFT SPEAKER on the powered speaker. 13. To angle the speakers as desired, slightly loosen the hand lever on the swivel brackets, and reswivel the speakers, aiming them as desired. Then tighten the swivel bracket hand levers to set the speakers into place. 14. Replace the wireway access covers onto the unit. 10

IF USING A DESKTOP COMPUTER INSTEAD OF A LAPTOP 1. Remove the center access panel at the back of the unit, and route the VGA (#11), audio (#14) and USB (#15) cable through the left or right cable access hole, and to your computer. 2. If additional cable length is needed, you may order a 15 cable extension whip, from InfoCor or your local satalight dealer. This whip contains a 15 VGA M/F cable, 15 3.5mm M/F stereo audio cable, one SMART USB-XT active USB extension cable for the SMART Board, and a 15 grounded AC cable for power, all wrapped in Techflex sleeving.
