In order to avoid expensive machine downtimes, the system operator should: 1. have a supply of replacement devices. 2. the configuration of every HMI control panel, including control panel data such as network configurations etc. documented and stored. Problem/reality The implementation in practice is not possible without considerable administrative efforts. 3. have a PC including the software for transmitting the HMI configuration to the control panel. The touchscreen of the HMI control panel was damaged in such a way that it cannot be operated any longer and must be replaced by a new one. Figure 1-1 Requirements of the first automation task For the replacement of the control panel, the following has to be observed: The configuration of the defective panel must be transferred one-to-one to the new panel. All the control panel data, such as network configurations must be transferred one-to-one. The passwords used must be transferred one-to-one. No other configuration software or other software should be required for the project download. SIMATIC HMI Comfort Panels offer a new Service Concept The Service Concept of the Comfort Panel is a continuous automatic backup of all the process-relevant control panels on a SIMATIC HMI SD storage card -> SIMATIC HMI SD storage card. There is a special card slot in the Comfort Panel, where the SIMATIC HMI SD storage card is inserted. Changes, for example in the device settings, are automatically saved. All the control panel data are automatically saved. No additional administration is necessary for saving data of the configuration and its device-specific settings. A quick replacement of defective devices by a simple commissioning of the new HMI control panel. Possibility of serial commissioning. Reduced service interventions. Your final customers will be able to carry out a configuration update or a device exchange by themselves. No specific technical personnel required. Delimitation This application does not include a description of the Comfort Panel used. This document describes only the steps that are necessary for this application. Basic knowledge of these topics is assumed. Required knowledge Basic knowledge about the handling and operation of a Comfort Panel is assumed. 2.3 Which files are saved automatically In the Service Concept of the Comfort Panel, all the data are saved that are located in the internal memory (flash) of the panel. When the system detects a change in the running system, the change is saved to the system card. This means the following files are stored on the system card: Configuration data of the Comfort Panel. Operating system of the Comfort Panel. Licenses from the Comfort Panel. Settings made in the control panel. Changes that were made in transfer settings etc. Data concerning recipes and or the user administration, when \Flash\ was selected for storage. Please keep in mind that the internal flash memory should not be used for continuous storage of data, since this can reduce the memory s service life. In this case, please use an external storage card, which you can insert in the second card slot in the Comfort Panel. This means how you activate and deactivate the automatic backup function. Depending on what Comfort Panel you use, the card slots for the system card and the application storage card are at the back or at the side of the Comfort Panel. For this purpose, look at the device manual. In this application the procedure for a SIMATIC HMI TP1200 Comfort Panel is described (in the following simply referred to as Comfort Panel). Note Only the SIMATIC HMI SD storage card from 2 GB upwards is admitted as system card. Any other storage card will not be recognized as a system card by the control panel. 3.2 Accepting the Service Concept For activating the Service Concept (automatic backup), just insert the system card (SIMATIC HMI SD storage card) into the slot of the Comfort Panel called System X50 SIMATIC HMI storage card. The system recognized the system card automatically and automatically activates the Service Concept. No other settings in the Comfort Panel are necessary *). You use an empty system card and the Service Concept has not been activated/used before. No. Action Screens 1. Transfer the configuration First, transfer your configuration to the Comfort Panel. 2. Stop runtime Before you insert the system card, stop the runtime of the Comfort Panel. 3. Inserting the system card Push the safety slide at the back of the panel into the second position Insert the system card in to slot X50 until it locks. Push the safety slide back into its initial position. When the system card is inserted, the card will first be checked for consistency. Then the following message is displayed: Please read the message and acknowledge it with the button Continue to start the process. The progress of the process is displayed in the window Performing backup / restore. At the end of the process, the Loader menu is displayed. Notes: If you do not wish to perform a data backup, remove the system card from the slot X50. If no message is displayed, the system card is probably defective and/or the Service Concept is deactivated. For this purpose, look at chapter 3.7. V1.0, Entry ID: 68373729 15

The runtime of the Comfort Panel was stopped and the system card was removed. No. Action Screens 1. Stop runtime Before you remove the system card, stop the runtime of the Comfort Panel. 2. Removing the system card Please note the information in chapter 3.4. (Removing the system card safely). Push the safety slide at the back of the panel into the second position Briefly push the system card into the card slot X50 to remove the card. Push the safety slide back into its initial position. When the system card was removed, the following message is displayed: OK button When you hit the OK button, the window is hidden again and the Loader menu of the Comfort Panel is displayed. Afterwards, please start the runtime of the Comfort Panel as usual. Option Do not show this message again When a system card was removed from the Comfort Panel, this message is displayed every time the panel is restarted. If you do not wish this message to be displayed any more, activate the option Do not show this message again with the OK button before you confirm. Please note: Without the system card, no control panel data will be saved automatically any more. V1.0, Entry ID: 68373729 17

The system card that was written on, was removed an inserted into an identical replacement device afterwards, which does not yet have the configuration. Case 2: An automatic backup was created (scenario 01). The system card was removed and the runtime of the Comfort Panel was restarted (scenario 02). Later on, the system card that was written on, is re-inserted into the same Comfort Panel. No. Action Screens 1. Stop runtime Before you insert the system card, stop the runtime of the Comfort Panel. 2. Inserting the system card Push the safety slide at the back of the panel into the second position Insert the system card that has been written on into slot X50 until it locks. Push the safety slide back into its initial position. When the system card that was written on is inserted, the card will first be checked for consistency. Then the following message is displayed: You can perform one of the three options: Remove the system card written on. Hit Continue, without activating the option Start backup. Hit Continue, with the option Start backup activated. Please note: The system considers the control panels stored on the system card as master file. The control panels existing on the Comfort Panel are not interpreted as up-to-date. Depending on the option you chose, existing control panels of the Comfort Panel can be saved first or can be directly overwritten with the control panel data of the system card. 18 V1.0, Entry ID: 68373729

Option Start backup With the option Start Backup and by confirming the button Continue, the existing control panel data of the Comfort Panel are saved on a backup medium. With this backup file you can restore the previous state of a Comfort Panel whenever you wish. Please use ProSave or the system function in the Control Panel (see chapter 3.5). Please note: If you want to use the option Start backup, you have to insert a storage card in the slot X51 first or use an USB stick. Functional sequence With the option Start backup activated, and a storage medium inserted, the storage path and the file name of the backup file will be automatically assigned in the field Medium. You can choose among the storage media from a drop-down list. In this example: \Storage Card SD\SIMATIC.HMI\Backup\TP1200 \Storage Card USB\SIMATIC.HMI\Backup\TP1200 Note on the storage path and file names: Do not change the storage path, like \Storage Card SD\SIMATIC.HMI\Backup\... (see chapter 3.5). You can freely assign a file name, for example TP1200_Machine_01. By default, the file name is composed as follows: \devicetype.date_time. By confirming with the button Continue, the control panel data of the Comfort Panel are saved to the second storage medium. The progress of the process is displayed in the window Performing backup / restore. When the first Process is finished, the control panel data of the system card will be transferred to the Comfort Panel. The progress of the second Process will be displayed in the window Performing backup / restore. When the second process is finished, the Panel carries out a restart. V1.0, Entry ID: 68373729 19

If you hit Yes, the control panel data of the system card will be transferred to the Comfort Panel. The progress of the process is displayed in the window Performing backup / restore. When the process is finished, the Panel carries out a restart. 3. Runtime operation Start the runtime of the Comfort Panel as usual. If you are not familiar with the Service Concept, please read chapter 3.3 first. Requirement The Service Concept was activated on the defective control panel. An identical replacement device is ready. In the replacement device, the slot for the system card is activated (factory setting). Information on this matter can be found in chapter 3.7. Procedure 1. Switch off the control panel. 2. Remove the defective control panel. 3. Remove the system card (slot X50 ) from the defective control panel. 4. Insert the system card (slot X50 ) of the defective control panel into the identical replacement device. 5. Install the replacement device. 6. Switch on the power supply of the replacement device. 7. In the replacement device, the message Use system card? appears before the runtime is started. Confirm with Continue.
