Function of the RAID Controller The Adaptec TM product name for the RAID Controller is SCSI RAID 2100S TM. The function of the RAID Controller (shown in Figure 1 below) is to combine multiple disk drives into an array of disk drives to obtain performance, capacity, and reliability that exceeds that of a single large drive. The array of drives appears to the host computer as a single logical drive. Figure 1. RAID Controller The RAID Controller can be installed in a PCI slot close to the CPU on an Omvia Media Server. 4 RAID Controller Installation Guide 60001075, Second Edition

Figure 2 shows the proper arrangement of boards in an Omvia Media Server. Back CPU System Security Key Offboard SCSI Card RAID Card Front Figure 2. Arrangement of Boards RAID Level 5 The RAID Controller is capable of supporting RAID Levels 0, 1, 0/1, 5, and 0/5. However, Intervoice supports only RAID Level 5 at this time. RAID Level 5 allows data to be striped (divided) block by block across multiple disks. Parity data is also spread out over multiple disks.
