1. Installation of USB Virtual COM Port driver software Select and double click to execute the file, VCP_V1.3.1_Setup in the provided CD, see picture below. Follow instructions prompted on PC to complete the installation. 2. Installation of Data Manager Software Select and double click to execute the file, KI_DataManager_EN- 1.0.0.exe in CD provided. Click on [Next] to continue. Click on [Next] to install program in the default directory or click on [Change] to change specify another directory. Click on [Finish] to complete program installation. Revision: 1 Date: 4 Jan 2017 Page 3 of 11
3. Connecting instrument to a PC (Personal Computer) Connect instrument to a PC using the provided USB cable and switch on instrument. The installed USB COM Port driver (STMicroelectronics Virtual COM Port) installed in PC can be viewed by the PC s Device Manager as shown below. 4. Launching of Data Manager Software Double click on the file, KI_DataManager_EN1.0.0.exe in the directory where the software was installed. 5. Data Management Software operation instructions 5.1 User Interface of Data Manager Software Picture below shows the User Interface of Data Manager Software upon launching the software. 5.2 Commands options in Tool Bar of user interface 5.2.1 [COM] manual USB COM port selection In the case where USB virtual COM port was not selected automatically by the software when it was launched, use this tool to manually select the appropriate port number. 5.2.2 [Connect] connect instrument to Data Manager Software Click to connect instrument to PC. Once connected successfully, the software automatically identifies the instrument model by displaying an arrow sign in front of the corresponding model code listed in Device Information window. Click on the arrow sign to display the actual model part number of the connected instrument e.g. KI 6512 (serial number). Click on the instrument model part number to display Information (serial number, H/W & F/W versions) about the connected instrument on the System Information window. 5.2.3 [Get Data] display data saved in instrument on Data Manager Click to list all the data record files saved in instrument memory on the Data window. 5.2.4 [Save Data] save data in instrument to PC Click on the desired data record file and the corresponding data content will be listed/displayed on the window below. To save the selected data record file onto PC, click on [Save Data] on tool bar and follow the prompted instructions to complete the process. Revision: 1 Date: 4 Jan 2017 Page 7 of 11
Default directory for file saving: in the same directory in which the Data Manager Software is installed. The data record file is saved in PC in CSV format. 5.2.5 [Graph Data] display data on Data Manager in graphical format Select the desired data record file and click on [Graph Data] to display the saved data in graphical format. 5.2.6 [Setting] display data on Data Manager in either wavelength or frequency Use this command to select the option to display the data content of a saved data file either in wavelength (nm) or frequency (THz) on the user interface. Revision: 1 Date: 4 Jan 2017 Page 9 of 11
5.3 Command options in Menu Bar of user interface 5.3.1 Options under [File], [Open]: Open a CSV data file which had been saved in PC. [Save]: Save a selected data file in instrument memory on PC, same as the [Save Data] command in section 4.2. [Exit]: Exit Data Manager Software. 5.3.2 Options under [Device] [Connect]: This has the same function as [Connect] in section 4.2. Revision: 1 Date: 4 Jan 2017 Page 10 of 11
5.3.3 Options under [Data] [Get Data]: This has the same function as [Get Data] in section 4.2. [Save Data]: This has the same function as [Save Data] in section 4.2. [Graph Data]: This has the same function as [Graph Data] in section 4.2. 5.3.4 Options under [Setting] [Setting]: This has the same function as Setting in section 4.2. 5.3.5 Option under [Help] [About]: shows information about the software.
