Copy, Paste, & Rename Template: 1. Insert the floppy disk located in the front cover of this manual (open) 2. Right click on template folder to copy. 3. Locate a place to store your WebQuest by opening your hard drive, jump drive, or network drive 4. Right click/paste template folder. 5. Right click on template folder/rename with one word NO SPACES 6. Remove Floppy Template Folder Components: Launching INDEX file: 1. Open the WebQuest folder that you placed on your drive. 2. Double click on index file to view main page of template. Editing With Microsoft Word: Note: Once you have opened the main page of your template you will be using Microsoft Word to edit and make changes to it. 1. File/Edit with Microsoft Word for Windows (see screen shot on next page). 2

Editing the HTML Source Code: Note: This is to change the name that appears with the icon when users open your WebQuest. 1. Click on View/HTML Source Code 2. Click on the Index Icon on the right to view another index click on that index. 3. Remove the word WebQuest between the <title> words and type in the name of your WebQuest. You can use spaces and Upper and lowercase letters. 3

Working on the Navigation Bar (Nav Bar): Note: This is to change the name that appears with the icon when users open your WebQuest. 1. Place the cursor on the left hand navigation bar. 2. To change the width of the nav bar go to Format/Frames/Frame Properties. 3. Under the heading SIZE change the number for width. Click OK. Saving Your Changes: Note: Never re-name the index page! Save often! 1. The pages in the template have already been saved as HTML. To save your changes just click on the icon of the floppy disk. When closing windows if you get a pop-up asking you to save always click YES. Working With Text: Changing Text: 2. Highlight the text you want to change. 3. Use the MS Word toolbar to choose the font, size, and color you want your title to be. 4. Type in your new title. 5. Repeat these steps to add your subject, name, and email address. Formatting Text (Line Spacing): 1. Highlight text. 2. Go to Format/Paragraph. 3. To remove space between lines go to the heading SPACING, change the spacing under Before and After to 0. 4. Also check the Line Spacing to make sure it is at SINGLE. Deleting Text: 1. Highlight text you want to delete. 2. Press the Backspace Key or Delete Key on the keyboard. 4

Working with Images, Tables, and Background Color Adding an Image (Clip Art): 1. Click on Insert/Picture/ClipArt (see below). 2. Choose clip art category 3. Insert clip and double click on it. The following screen will appear. 4. Choose square and other. 5. Now you will be able to size and move your graphic with ease. Adding an Image (file): 1. Click on Insert/Picture/From File (see below). 2. Choose folder/file your graphic is in and click on insert (see below). 3. Double click on graphic and repeat above steps with clipart to size and relocate your graphic. Adding an Image (from the internet): 1. Right click on the image on the Internet and click on Copy. 2. Toggle back to your Word document. Place the cursor where you want the image. Right click/paste. 5

If you do not see Copy when you right click here is an alternative to capturing the image: 1. Press the Print Screen (Print Scrn) button from your keyboard. (This will take a picture of your entire screen.) 2. Toggle back to your Word document. Place the cursor where you want the image. Right click/paste. Now you can crop off the parts of the image you do not want. See Cropping an Image below. Cropping an Image: 1. Click on the image. 2. Choose the iconcropping tool. 3. Place the cropping cursor on one of the black handles around the image. 4. Click and drag to remove the parts of the image you do not want. 5. To restore parts that have been cropped drag the cropping cursor in the opposite direction to re-exposed the cropped parts of the image. Inserting a Table NOTE: We recommend that you insert your clipart or pictures into a table IF you plan to use the item as a hyperlink and/or with text next to the image. 1. Click on the icon to insert a table 2. Highlight the squares to determine the number of rows and columns you want in your table. 6

Changing Background Color: 1. Click on the frame where you want to change background color. 2. Click on Format/Background (see below). 3. Click on color to insert into background. Working With Pages Adding New Pages: Note: You will be able to add or delete pages when you are editing your Template with Microsoft Word. 1. Click File/New/Webpage 2. Design your new page. 3. Click File/Save ( it will be saving it in webpage format) 4. Select your working WebQuest folder, name it, & click Save. Hyperlinking Text, Object, or Image: Note: To link one page to another you can use a button image or text. The steps below will show you how to hot link a button or text. 1. Highlight the text, object, or image you want to use as a link. 2. Right click/hyperlink or click on the Hyperlink Icon 3. The following dialog box will appear: 7

4. Click on File to browse to the page you want to link (see above). Note: If you open your working WebQuest Folder and do not see the file you want to link to, remove the word in the File Name field and click on the File Type Field. Then all your files will appear. 5. Use the dropdown menu to select the frame where you want the document to appear. 6. Select Main or New Window and click OK Note: In the above steps, selecting main in the dropdown menu allows you to open your document in the right (main) frame. Selecting new window (see below) allows you to open your document in a new window (see below). 7. Test the link. 8. Usually the linked text will be blue and underlined. To change it highlight text, select the U icon for underline TWICE, then choose a different font color. Hyperlinking to a Web Page or URL 1. Insert cursor where you want text to be. 2. Type in text that will represent web Selection or URL. 3. Highlight your text. 4. Right click on text/select Hyperlink (see below). 5. The following screen will appear: 8

6. Click on the Web Page button to browse to the web page that you want to hyperlink to. 7. Once you are at that site all you need to do is close the window and it will appear in the Web Page Name Field. Note: You can also open Internet Explorer, find your site, copy the Address and paste it in the field for the Web Page Name. Deleting Web Pages: 1. Open Working Template Folder. 2. Locate file for page that you want to delete. 3. Right click on file and click delete (see below) 4. Click yes. Preparing to Add a Sound File: Note: You must first have your sound file posted online which will give it a URL. 1. Locate or make your sound file. 2. Email the sound file to your ITS person. 3. He/she will place it in a folder on the district server and email back to you the URL address. Adding a Sound File: Caution: When working in Windows 2000 or Windows XP you may have to add a default printer in order for this function to work properly. 1. Click on Tools/Customize. 2. Select Web Tools (see below). 9

3. On Web Tools Menu select Design Mode (see below). Note: You must be in Design Mode to add sound. 4. Next click on the Sound Icon 5. You will see the following Dialogue box: 6. Copy the URL address from your ITS 10

7. Place the cursor in the field marked Sound and press CTRL V (which will paste the URL address in the field. 8. Use the dropdown box to select how many times you want the sound to play. 9. Click OK. Adding Recorded Sound: Note: Be sure that your microphone is selected before you begin recording sound by using the following steps: 2. Double Click on sound icon on bottom task bar. 3. The following dialogue box will appear: 4. Click Options/Properties (see below). 5. Click on radio button in front of Recording. 6. Make sure that Microphone is checked. 7. Click OK. 8. The Recording Control Dialogue box will appear (see below) 11

9. Make sure that the Microphone has a check in front of Select. Note: Now you are ready to begin the steps for recording. 10. Click Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder (see below). 11. The following dialogue box will appear: Stop Record 12. Click on the round red button to record. 13. Click on the black rectangle button to stop. 14. Click File/Save As 15. Name file and select location to save to. 16. Click Save. 17. Send the recorded file to your ITS for posting then refer back to the step on Adding a Sound File. 12

Burning Your WebQuest Folder to a CD: Note: When your WebQuest is complete you will need to get the entire folder to your ITS so it can be posted on the district web server, given a URL address, and placed on the CCPS WebQuest Matrix. 1. Double Click on Easy CD icon on desktop (see below). 2. Click on Make a data CD/dataCD Project (see below). 3. The following dialogue box will appear: 13

4. Click the dropdown menu under Select Source Files to select location of your webquest folder. 5. Double click on your webquest folder to open and display files. 6. Under Name (left) highlight all of the files that are in your webquest. 7. Click on the blue ADD arrow to add your files to the bottom field. 8. Click on red record button (right). 9. The following screen will appear: 10. Click on Start Recording (see above). 11. The following screen will appear: 12. When the top and bottom field read 100% and CD created successfully appears under Disc Progress, click OK and remove your CD. 14
