AP-120 Series AP Mounting Kit Installation Guide The AP-120 series mounting kit provides additional mounting options for the AP-120 series wireless access points. The mounting kit includes the following items: Adapter for 15/16-inch (2.4-cm) ceiling tile rails. Use this adapter to mount the AP on rails that are recessed above the surface of the ceiling tile. Adapter for 9/16-inch (1.4 cm) ceiling tile rails. Use this adapter to adapt the integrated mounting tabs to narrower rails (recessed or flush). Wall-mounting plate. Use this plate to mount the AP on a wall using the integrated mounting tabs. Junction box mounting plate. Use this plate to mount the AP over a pre-installed junction box. Desk stand. Use the desk stand to support the AP on a desk or shelf. This installation note describes how to attach and use the items in the mounting kit. For complete information about selecting the location and setting up the AP, see the Aruba AP-120 Series Indoor Access Point Installation Guide. Using a Ceiling Rail Adapter The AP-120 series enclosure provides integrated mounting tabs that are designed to snap onto a standard, non-recessed 15/16-inch (1.4 cm) ceiling tile rail; the optional mounting kit is not required for this installation. The mounting kit includes adapters that allow you to mount the AP-120 series unit on a recessed or non-recessed standard 9/16-inch (1.4 cm) rail or on a recessed standard 15/16-inch (1.4 cm) rail To attach either ceiling rail adapter to the AP-120 series access point: 1. Place the adapter against the back of the AP with the adapter at an angle of approximately 30 degrees to the tabs (see Figure 1). 2. Twist the adapter clockwise until it snaps into place in the tabs (see Figure 1). Figure 1 Attaching the Ceiling Mount Adapter ap12_010 After the adapter is attached to the AP, mount the AP on a ceiling tile rail as follows: 1. Align the AP with a ceiling tile rail, placing the AP so that the mounting tabs on the adapter are at an angle of approximately 30 degrees to the ceiling tile rail (see Figure 2). 0510503-03 May 2009 1
Make sure that slack in connected cables is above the ceiling tiles. 2. Pushing toward the ceiling tile, rotate the AP clockwise until it clicks into place on the ceiling tile rail (see Figure 2). Figure 2 Mounting the AP ap12_011 3. On the AP-121 or AP-125, extend the antennas. For best results, rotate the antennas so that they are vertical (perpendicular to the body of the AP), as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3 Antenna Orientation on the AP-121/AP-125 On the AP-120 or AP-124, install the external antennas according to the manufacturer s instructions, and connect the antennas to the antenna interfaces on the AP (see Figure 4). 2 AP-120 Series AP Mounting Kit Installation Guide
Figure 4 Antenna Interfaces on the AP-120/AP-124 ap12_009 Using the Wall Plate The wall plate allows you to attach the AP to a wall using the integrated mounting tabs. To use the wall plate: 1. Attach the wall plate to the wall using screws appropriate to the wall surface (see Figure 5). Figure 5 Using the Wall Plate ap12_014 2. Hold the AP with the connectors and LED apertures at the bottom. Place the AP against the wall plate with the tabs an angle of approximately 30 degrees to the mounting rail. 3. Pushing toward the rail, twist the AP clockwise until it clicks into place on the wall plate. 4. On the AP-121 or AP-125, extend the antennas. For best results, rotate the antennas so that they are vertical (perpendicular to the body of the AP), as shown in Figure 9. AP-120 Series AP Mounting Kit Installation Guide 3
Using the Junction Box Mounting Plate The junction box mounting plate allows you to attach the AP to a pre-installed junction box. Attach the mounting plate as follows: 1. Remove the cover plate from an installed junction box. Save the screws. Figure 6 Removing the installed cover plate 2. Identify the Ethernet cable or cables that will be connected to the AP. The Ethernet cable must have a male RJ-45 connector. 3. Pull the RJ-45 cables through the opening in the mounting plate. Attach the mounting plate to the junction box using the screws from the removed cover plate (Figure 7). Figure 7 Installing the mounting plate AP120_001 4. Connect the RJ-45 cables to the required ports on your AP. 5. Align the mounting posts on the mounting plate with the mounting holes on the back of the AP (Figure 8). 6. Push the AP against the pegs and downward, until the pegs engage the slots at the top of the mounting holes (Figure 8). 4 AP-120 Series AP Mounting Kit Installation Guide

Figure 10 Antenna Interfaces on the AP-120/AP-124 ap12_009 Using the Desk Stand To use the desk stand: 1. Attach the desk stand to the AP as follows: AP-120 Series AP Mounting Kit Installation Guide 5
a. Place the desk stand against the back of the AP, with the hinged support leg pointing away from the console port (see Figure 11). Hold the desk stand so that the base plate is at an angle of approximately 30 degrees to the integrated mounting tabs. Figure 11 Attaching a Desk Stand ap12_012 b. Twist the desk stand clockwise until it snaps into place in the tabs. 2. Extend the hinged support leg and set the AP on a level surface (see Figure 12). Verify that the model number on the front of the unit is upside down and that the Ethernet ports and power connector are accessible at the top of the unit. 3. On the AP-121 or AP-125, extend the front antenna. For best results, orient the antennas in the positions shown in Figure 12.
