2012 Silver Peak Systems, Inc. QUICK START GUIDE XenServer Agility Plug-in Silver Peak optimization is symmetrical, requiring a peer Silver Peak in each location that requires optimization. This guide describes how to configure Agility in one datacenter. The remote datacenter also needs a peer Silver Peak. PREREQUISITES XenServer 6.0 or above is installed on the servers. XenCenter 6.0 is installed on the client machine, which is running Windows 7 (Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate Edition). You must be able to login as the built-in Administrator for the client machine. Other users with administrator privileges will not work. You must already have deployed the Silver Peak virtual appliance in either server mode or router mode. WHAT YOU LL NEED The MAC address and the IP address of the Silver Peak virtual appliance that the plug-in will manage. Currently, an Agility plug-in only manages a single Silver Peak virtual appliance within a Data Center. Credentials for the server on which the workloads are selected and optimized. XenServer Agility Plug-in This example describes the procedures for deploying the XenServer Agility Plug-in and a Silver Peak virtual appliance at Datacenter-1, as shown in the network diagram. 1 Install the XenServer Agility Plug-in a. Log in as the Administrator on the client machine. b. From the Silver Peak website, download SPXenAgility.msi. c. To start installing the plug-in, run SPXenAgility.msi. XenServer Agility Plug-in 2 Configure the VX appliance Before you can start optimizing your workload, you need to configure the VX appliance by doing the following: Adding a tunnel to the remote VX appliance Adding a route policy to optimize traffic from your workload The basic, necessary steps are outlined below. For more information, refer to the Appliance Manager Operator s Guide. a. Launch the XenCenter client. b. When the console appears, elect the Silver Peak tab. [NOTE: Selection in the tree window has no relationship to the content in the Silver Peak tab.] c. Login to the Appliance Manager using the default credentials: admin / admin for user name / password. [NOTE: After the first login, you can change them in the Administration > User Management > Users menu.] d. Inside the Silver Peak WebUI, go to the Configuration menu and select Tunnels. XenServer Agility Plug-in f. Next, go to the Configuration - Route Policy page. g. Click Add and complete the following fields: Src subnet: 192.168.1.190 [This is SQL-Server.] Dst subnet: 192.168.1.133 [This is SQL-Client.] Tunnel: Select to-dc2 h. Click Apply. Quick Start Guide 3 Optimize your workload After the tunnel is up, you need to do this task at both the local and remote ends. a. Right-click on your workload (In Datacenter-1, this is SQL-Server), and select Silver Peak > Enable optimization. Make sure you do NOT select the Silver Peak appliance. You will be prompted to enter the server credentials. (This step is only required the first time you try to optimize traffic on any of the VMs on that server.) If you enter the wrong credentials, an error message displays and you are prompted to enter the correct credentials. PN 200694-001 Rev A» R5.2 9 of 10
XenServer Agility Plug-in b. To verify that the selected workload [SQL-Server] is optimized, do the following: Select the General tab and look at the Tags field for the word, Optimized. Select the Silver Peak tab and select Monitoring > Current Flows to verify that traffic is being optimized.
