What are the first steps I should take to make this process go smoothly? The best way to integrate your Canvas course with a LaunchPad course is to set up LaunchPad first. Below is a list of tasks, each of which links to a how-to article from our LaunchPad instructor's manual or Canvas Deep Integration for LaunchPad: Student's Manual. If you haven't already been sampled access to your LaunchPad title, request access to it. Log in to your LaunchPad title, create a course, and input identifying information. Important note: Do not prompt students to enter their LMS ID. Doing so will conflict with your Canvas and LaunchPad deep integration and cause technical issues. Familiarize yourself with the content. Search for your author's last name in the LaunchPad instructor's manual and look through the tour of student and instructor resources for your title. Make a list of items that you'll want to assign for a grade vs. items you want students to read or walk-through that won't be for a grade. For items that will report to your Canvas gradebook, assign them in LaunchPad, select due dates, enter point values, and create or select LaunchPad gradebook categories. For items that won't report to your Canvas gradebook, you'll be able to import them into your Canvas course without assigning them in LaunchPad. When you've completed your LaunchPad course set up, activate your LaunchPad course. After activating, you'll see auto-generated student registration instructions and will be prompted to distribute them to students. PLEASE IGNORE THESE INSTRUCTIONS! They were designed for students who are not accessing LaunchPad within Canvas. Instead, direct students to the Link Canvas to LaunchPad chapter in the Canvas Deep Integration for LaunchPad: Student's Manual. Please also tell your students that they will be following special instructions to prepare to use LaunchPad inside Canvas. Thus, if students bought a textbook packaged with a LaunchPad access card or a standalone access card from the bookstore, they should ignore the standard registration Page 4
instructions included there and instead consult the Canvas Deep Integration for LaunchPad: Student's Manual. When you're done, log in to Canvas, link your Canvas course to your LaunchPad course, and import the LaunchPad assignments you've already created, as well as any other resources you want students to read or walk-through but that you don't wish to grade. Read on in this manual to find out more about bringing LaunchPad content into Canvas. Page 5
Confirm that the Macmillan Learning tools are available in your Canvas course Please note that the Canvas/Macmillan LaunchPad integration will be available in your Canvas course only after your Canvas LMS Administrator has completed the integration setup with the assistance of Macmillan Learning. You will be notified by either your Canvas Administrator or your Macmillan Rep when this preparatory work has been completed. Check for Macmillan Learning in left navigation menu On your Canvas course home page, in the Course Navigation panel, confirm that a link exists for Macmillan Learning. Note: If the Macmillan Learning link is not present, please continue following the steps in this article. If it is present, proceed to the next article, Pair your Canvas course with a LaunchPad course. Page 6

On the Add App panel enter the Consumer Key and Shared Secret provided by your Macmillan Sales Engineer and click Submit. You may use the same key and secret to add the Macmillan App to all of your Canvas courses, semester to semester. Confirm that Macmillan Learning displays in App Configuration Canvas will display the App Configuration page, which now lists the Macmillan app. Your own Canvas system may or may not list the Macmillan app s extensions. Either case is fine. Page 9
Refresh your browser and go to the Navigation tab You'll see the Macmillan Learning app at the bottom of the course navigation list. Drag and drop the Macmillan Learning app to the spot where you want it in the list and click Save. Confirm that the app is now in the left navigation menu Page 10

Import LaunchPad content into your Canvas course: Gradebook Items LaunchPad assignments that require students to submit work can be worth points in your Canvas course. Examples include summative quizzes, LearningCurve adaptive quizzes, and video activities. Assign LaunchPad activities To import gradable items to Canvas so that they will be posted to the Canvas Assignments area and the gradebook you must first assign the activities in LaunchPad, inputting due dates and points possible. For more information on assigning LaunchPad resources, please see the help article Assigning Items within a LaunchPad Unit. Go to your Canvas course After setting up the assignments in your LaunchPad course you may proceed to your Canvas course to import LaunchPad content. Remember: Before you import LaunchPad content into Canvas you must have already paired your Canvas course with your LaunchPad course. Page 18
Click Macmillan Learning in the left navigation menu To import LaunchPad content to your Canvas course click the Macmillan Learning link in the course navigation panel of your Canvas course. Click Macmillan Content Page 19
On the Macmillan Tools page, click Macmillan Content. *Very important note: You can use the Macmillan Content tool to import only gradable LaunchPad activities into your Canvas course. Any LaunchPad content imported into Canvas using the steps below will also post automatically to the Canvas Assignments area and the Canvas gradebook. To import ungraded content such as unit readings, certain video exercises and the like, refer to the help article Import LaunchPad content into your Canvas course: Nongradebook Items. View your LaunchPad content inside Canvas Canvas will display the table of contents (TOC) for your LaunchPad course. Page 20
What do the orange arrowheads mean? The presence of an arrowhead alongside any LaunchPad item indicates that it is a folder which can be expanded to view its contents. To expand the view of a folder, click the arrowhead. You can drill down into the components of each LaunchPad unit in the same way. Expanded vs. Collapsed View of Folders within the Content Selector Page 21
1. Arrowheads that have been dropped down represent folders that have been expanded. 2. Individual items do not have an arrowhead to the left of their title. 3. Arrowheads that remain pointed to the right represent folders that have items within them. Click on the arrowhead to expand the folder. Can I preview LaunchPad items before adding them to my course? To preview any item in the TOC simply click its name. The link will place you directly in that resource in LaunchPad. After reviewing the content you can return to Canvas by simply closing the browser tab in which the Macmillan content was displayed. How will I know which LaunchPad items I should import? To view the gradebook status of any item listed in the TOC, simply click the i to the right of the assignment name. Canvas will display a small panel with the LaunchPad gradebook details and the import status for that TOC item. Make sure all items you are importing are Assigned and worth points before continuing. The top folder is Assignments. This folder contains all of the content you have already assigned in LaunchPad. To assign in Canvas the non-graded content you've already assigned in LaunchPad, click the orange arrow on the left of the Assignments folder to expand it and select a non-graded item inside. If you prefer, you can also find and select a LaunchPad item within any other folder. Just make sure the item is non-graded before importing it. Please note that you can select/import only one LaunchPad non-gradable item to Canvas at a time. What are the LaunchPad and E-book items for? You'll see the LaunchPad and E-book items above the Assignments folder. Selecting them will give your students a quick link to the entire LaunchPad home page and to the home page filtered by the E-book only from your Canvas course. Please note that selecting these options might confuse students, for they may not be sure what you'd like them to do after landing on the LaunchPad home page or in the e- book. Linking to assignments individually provides students with the best experience. Page 34
Deploy Selected Content Make your selection and click the Deploy Selected Content button. Canvas will re-display the Add Item to Module panel. Page 35

I received a pop-up blocker warning and/or an Integration Middleware Error. What does this mean? The Integration Middleware Error often has to do with your browser's pop-up blocker or privacy settings. This article details things you can try to reset your browser then perform the action in your course again that initially triggered the error. Open a new tab or window in your browser, then follow the steps below. For pop-up blockers Allow or make an exception for pop ups at macmillanhighered.com In Firefox In Chrome Refresh your browser Page 44
After changing your settings for pop-up windows, refresh your browser by clicking the circular arrow, usually near the top of your browser window where the URL is displayed. Now repeat the action in your course that caused the error the first time around. For an Integration Middleware Error The Integration Middleware Application prompts you to immediately submit a report, but there are adjustments to your browser settings that you might try first. Open a new tab or window and follow the instructions for your browser below. Page 45
Action for Firefox From the menu that looks like three bars at the top-right of your browser window, try each setting combination to see which works for you: 1. Options ---> Privacy tab ---> History ---> Remember history or 2. Options ---> Privacy tab ---> History ---> Use custom settings for history ---> Always use private browsing mode ---> Accept cookies from sites ---> Always Page 46

If these actions do not resolve your issue, please report the issue Be sure to include the following information in the comments text box: You're accessing LaunchPad through Canvas. The steps you took in this article to try to resolve it. What browser and browser version you're using. What operating system you're using. Page 49
My students are having trouble linking Canvas to LaunchPad. How can I help them? If students report getting an Integration Middleware Application error message, please send them "I'm trying to link to Canvas to LaunchPad, but I got an Integration Middleware Application error message. What does this mean?" If students mention clicking on something and getting a blank screen or "nothing happening," they may need to adjust their pop-up blockers. Please send them "After I got access to LaunchPad, I clicked Continue to Site, but all I saw was a blank screen. What should I do now?" If students are confused by their access options, please send them the "Select an access option" chapter in the student manual, which explains the difference among registering an access code, purchasing online, and taking advantage of free trial access. Page 50
I need my students' grades in Canvas now. Can I manually refresh them? Although the Canvas/Macmillan deep integration provides an automated process for gradesync, grades often take several hours to update. If you need your grades to appear in Canvas immediately, you can use the Manual Grade Refresh support tool. You can use Manual Grade Refresh any time; it won't interfere with the automated gradesync. In your Canvas course, go to Macmillan Learning To perform a manual grade refresh click the Macmillan Learning link in the course navigation panel of your Canvas course. Page 51
Click Macmillan Grade Refresh On the Macmillan Tools page click the Macmillan Grade Refresh option. The Grade Refresh page will open in a new tab or window. Click Refresh Grades Note that all gradable assignments you imported into Canvas are listed here on the Macmillan Higher Education Grade Refresh page, with the possible exception of assignments imported in the last 15 minutes. Accept all defaults and click Refresh Grades. Page 52
You may see a message alerting you that the task is in progress. Canvas will perform the gradebook refresh for all the items listed and display a success message. Confirm grades have been posted Proceed to the Canvas gradebook and confirm that the students scores have been posted. Page 53
Not all of my students' grades are appearing in my Canvas gradebook. What could be the issue? You can use the Macmillan Roster Information page to track which students have completed single sign on registration with LaunchPad through Canvas. It's important for students to complete single sign on, for if they don't, the grades of assignments they've completed in LaunchPad will not flow into Canvas, even if you perform a manual grade refresh. If your students report completing their work, but you're not seeing their grades in your Canvas gradebook, then chances are they're going to your LaunchPad course URL rather than opening their assignments from inside Canvas. Please follow these instructions to identify which students haven't completed single sign on, then send them the directions to do so. Click Macmillan Learning Page 54
To access the Macmillan Roster Information page click the Macmillan Learning link in the course navigation panel of your Canvas course. Click Macmillan Roster Information On the Macmillan Tools page click Macmillan Roster Information. Look for students missing an email address Page 55
On the Macmillan Higher Education Roster page, confirm that all students actively enrolled in your Canvas course have an email address listed in the Macmillan Higher Education Account column. The presence of an email address confirms that students have completed single sign on registration from Canvas. The LaunchPad grades of students listed on this roster without an email address will not automatically or manually flow into Canvas. Please send students instructions on how to link their LaunchPad accounts to your Canvas course. Page 56
I associated my Canvas course with the wrong LaunchPad course. How can I fix this? If you first linked your Canvas course to the wrong LaunchPad course, you can correct the pairing by unlinking the two courses, then re-associating your Canvas course with a different LaunchPad course. ** Very important note: If there are students already enrolled in your LaunchPad course, please contact your Macmillan Sales Engineer before performing this operation. In certain integration scenarios you will need the assistance of your Macmillan Sales Engineer and/or Macmillan Higher Education s Technical Support to effect a clean break between your Canvas course and the LaunchPad course. Open your Canvas course and go to Macmillan Learning To access the Unlink Macmillan Course page click the Macmillan Learning link in the course navigation panel of your Canvas course. Page 57
Click Unlink Macmillan Course On the Macmillan Tools page, click Unlink Macmillan Course. Click Yes, Disassociate this Course On the Sever this Course Association page, confirm the name of the LaunchPad course that you wish to unlink. Click Yes, Disassociate this Course. Page 58
Return to Canvas, reconnect the courses, or view other LaunchPad courses You will see a message confirming that your Canvas course is no longer linked to the LaunchPad course. From here, you may take one of three actions: 1. Return to Canvas by simply closing this browser tab that the confirmation message appears in. 2. Re-associate your Canvas course with the same LaunchPad course to which you just broke the link by clicking Reconnect this course. 3. Pair your Canvas course with a different LaunchPad course by clicking View available courses. View available courses Canvas will display the Macmillan Choose Course page. Page 59
Associate another LaunchPad course with your Canvas course On the Choose Course page carefully review the list of courses shown and select the LaunchPad course that you wish to pair with your Canvas course by clicking the Associate button. If you need additional guidance, please see the help article Pair your Canvas course with a LaunchPad course. Page 60
