1. New start screen menu The familiar PHABRIX start screen has been updated to display new features available on the Sx platform. Audio groups now show PCM (Pulse code modulation) when audio is present. In addition the presence of Dolby E will be shown as EE only however for complete analysis the full Dolby-E option must be installed. If the unit is an SxE, Eye and Jitter values are shown on the start screen, also available in the eye display screens. With the release of the Dolby E analysis option detailed later, the start screen will display the following extra information: The Dolby, V-Bit and PCM status is now displayed along with basic Dolby E Meta Data. (See Dolby E Option release description at the end of the software release notes) 3
2. New easy keyboard input of text Where input of text is prompted throughout the menu structure, a new easy to use keyboard is activated. Selection of different language keyboards is also available from the right roll bar. 3. New enhanced signal analysis and logging features EDH present/missing logged TRS position errors logged: Any length changes will be flagged ANC error count checksum logged Active Picture checksum logged: Changes flagged Reference status logged New ANC error count logged along with CRC/EDH and Active Picture CRC 4
The logging capabilities in identifying signal faults using the analysis features of the Sx range have been enhanced. This has resulted in several menu additions, particularly in the log Setup selection menu. New logging features on 10.0062 The Events screen with enhanced log/flag reports 5
4. New user log-in Engineering departments can now set user defined names and passwords. With User log-in enabled a log-in screen will be displayed when the Sx is turned ON and a valid user and password is entered. Each user has an encrypted password and permissions which may be set. Using the User Login feature allows the Sx to be protected from operation by unauthorised users and the prompt feature can allow a message to be displayed so that if an Sx unit gets lost or stolen, someone finding it knows where to return it. Add a user by editing a new name in the User Edit box next to the Add User button and then editing a new password. Once the password is 6 characters or longer, the Add User button will become enabled and may be pressed. Make sure that your password is memorable. If all passwords to a unit are forgotten, you can contact Phabrix for an over-ride password. Users with administrator permission may add/delete users. 5. New eye measurement values greyed out if cable length over 50 metres Should the cable length be over 50 metres then the eye measurements will be automatically greyed out. 6
6. New Generator Off warning Several of our manufacturing clients have requested an alert when the generator has been deliberately selected off. In general use the output can be switched off to save power where required. If the user is not familiar with the interface then previously there may be occasions when the unit looked as if it was in fault. 7. Temperature protect mode and hardware status menu A new high temperature protect mode has been implemented on all Sx instruments. Should the temperature increase due to a rare fan failure or operation of the unit in extreme conditions of heat, a short warning will be announced at 60 degrees C. The unit will switch off at 65 degrees C. The Hardware Status display is a diagnostic which can be use to verify the operation of the unit in cases where finger trouble may be responsible for the fault. Should no hardware fault be reported then further investigation of the set-up of the instrument is advised. 7
8. New FTP Client application A new FTP client application is available for download from the website www.phabrix.com > Manuals and software releases. This application simplifies FTP communication with the Sx instruments to specific folders only. This can be useful for downloading screen dumps off the Sx and for file deletion of the Sx s own internal disk by right clicking the mouse for copy, and delete file or delete all functions. Report files created using the Command scripts option can also be downloaded and deleted off the Sx instrument disk. FTP errors are also available to view. There are times when the software zip file may be needed to upgrade a unit offline. Here the zip file can be downloaded directly from the PHABRIX website and copied into the new ftp client on a desktop or laptop connected to the Sx by drag and drop. This will automate the software uncompression and upload the software into the correct file structure within the Sx instrument. After selection of the new software a reboot will be required. 8
Option improvements Enhanced remote control upgraded Following feedback from the many users of the Enhanced Remote control Option, the following changes have been made. Addition of COM_ANYLS_LOG_FORCE_CLEAR commandid for remote control clearing of event log without manual confirmation Added ability to disable Sx the operation buttons and thumb selection buttons when under remote control. Important The following changes have been made to the Remote Control Command name. To correct the naming conventions i.e. COM_GEN_LOG_ACTIVE_PICTURE_CRC_ENABLE Changes to; Option release COM_ANLYS_LOG_ACTIVE_PICTURE_CRC_ENABLE Dolby E analysis Option code PHSXOBD (Basic Dolby E) The new Dolby E option is now available. This option release adds significant Dolby -E audio analysis features to the Sx range. These include metadata analysis, Peak (levels) and logging. Note: De-coded audio is not part of this option. A detailed description of the new features can be found in the manual available for download from www.phabrix.com, >Manuals and software releases The new option allows the display of Dolby-E meta data present in a selected audio stream and determines whether the Dolby-E packet is timed correctly on the SDI video stream. The Dolby- E may be monitored from any of the SDI input embedded audio channel pairs or the AES input. 9 In use the new start menu window displays both the V Bit information and PCM values along with a snapshot of the Dolby E metadata if a Dolby E signal is present.
Using the Signal Information menu > Dolby E will present the full analysis display which forms the major analytical tool for this release. The Dolby-E metadata screen above carries primary information including signal source, Dolby- E guard band timing, CRC errors, program channel and metadata detail. The characters shown in white will only be presented when a Dolby-E signal is introduced into the unit. The peak audio levels included in the Dolby-E meta data packet are displayed on the Analyser>Audio Meters page. Select the appropriate set of meters to display Dolby levels which will follow the selected Dolby-E source. 10
Logging for Dolby E errors, Timing, Common metadata and Program metadata can be controlled form the Logging>Log set-up menu. NOTE: USING A DOLBY DM100 WITH AN Sx instrument. Following beta tests with our customers, the following note must be observed when working with a Dolby DM100. The DM100 generator must be locked to Video Reference 48kHz. This is found on the Setup- I/O Control Gen Clock Source Menu. If this is NOT set, the AES input will not be locked and errors will be detected as the AES input runs in and out of lock. The DM100 AES output needs to be setup to generate Non-Audio AES data or the sample rate converter in the Sx will corrupt the data. Go to Setup-AES3 Output-Audio Mode and set to Non-Audio mode. End 11
