Configuration Guide For The Online Converter by IDRSolutions Copyright IDR Solutions Limited Revision 1.2 Revision 1.3 20/12/13 13/02/14

Introduction The Online PDF converter is a simple to use interface and is well suited to those non technical users who don t have much experience in converting PDF s to HTML5 especially because of the language and scripts involved. This guide will explain step by step how to select the configuration options on the online converter and explain what the available choices are to the user, allowing you to configure the converter to how you want your content to be presented in HTML5 file format. Why Turn Your PDF's Into HTML5? We are big PDF fans and believe that it is still the format for many uses and users. However, for putting content on your website, HTML5 makes a lot more sense. We have written a series of articles explaining all the advantages which can be found online on our website (start at Why convert PDF magazines to HTML5?). But, the simple answer is that: It is the natural language of the Internet It does a good job of displaying complex files It makes it easy to read on mobile devices and PCs It is much easier for the search engines to digest Putting your content on your website improves your rank and improves the traffic you get. 2

Getting There... Open your web browser and visit: http://www.idrsolutions.com/convert/ If your already reading this guide then you will have already entered your email address to get this free guide! Presently there is no need to enter a username and password to try out the software (but you will need them if you want to save the HTML5 files in the future). To convert files into HTML5, click the link Online Converter at the bottom of the PDF Conversion table. 3

Selecting your Content You should now be at the online converter. Click on the green Select File button and choose your file, in this case we will use my-examples.pdf 4

Choose Conversion Preset The converter can provide lots of options to control the conversion. Below the green change file button there's a variety of ready made conversion presets available for your file which allow you to select what you want and then simply click to convert! You can select these presets if your looking for quick customisation options without the hassle of going through the advance customizations menu. To see what these presets offer, please visit the following URL : www.idrsolutions.com/configuring-the-pdf-to-html5converter/conversion-presets/ 5

Customize Your Conversion The next step once a file has been chosen is to select the conversion type which is located below the green Select File button. Instead of selecting the preset settings click the Show Advanced Customization Option. This will result in presets menu with your file. a menu appearing to the bottom of the Common a list of options for configuring and customizing If you click on the green + symbol next to the option it will cause a drop down menu to appear. 6

View Modes The first one to click on is View Mode. Individual Pages This option will mean that the pages extracted in the Online PDF converter will all be individual HTML files. A range of navigation bars can be added to enhance navigation. 7

View Modes Continued... Magazine Layout This option will mean that the pages are extracted similar to a physical magazine, with 2 pages per file and it aligns in the same style of an open magazine, with even numbered pages appearing on the left and odd numbered pages appearing on the right. 8

View Modes Continued... Continuous Magazine This option is where the file is extracted and arranged into a vertical column to be made easy to view on mobile and tablet devices however rather than displaying a single page with this mode the added enhancement is that the pages are displayed like an open magazine with the even page numbers appearing on the left and odd on the right. 9

View Modes Continued... Single Document (Vertical) This option is the where the file is extracted and arranged into a single vertical column, it is perfect for office documents, university papers, etc and is perfect for displaying on desktop, mobile and tablet devices where you can easily swipe down through the pages. 10

View Modes Continued... Content Only (Value: content ) This mode allows you to display your page without any of our Viewer/Javascript CSS. It gives you he raw HTML5 for you to do with as you please. 11

Text Modes The text mode options allows how the text itself gets output. This can be used to switch between using real, selectable text (with converted fonts) and text drawn as shapes (for a perfect match), with or without invisible text on top to provide selection. Real Text PDF Text is converted to real, selectable text with converted fonts. File sizes are the lowest in these modes. Selectable Image Text is converted to shapes, which ensures a perfect match with the PDF. Text is drawn as SVG shapes or rasterised onto image depending on which mode you select. An invisible layer of real text is placed on top, allowing for text search and selection. File sizes are the highest in these modes. 12

Text Modes Continued... Non Selectable Image Text is converted to shapes, which ensures a perfect match with the PDF. Text is drawn as SVG shapes or rasterised onto image depending on which mode you select. No real text is output, which means that there is no search or selection functionality. File sizes are neither the highest, or the lowest in these modes. Image Output Clicking on the Image Output option gives you a choice of choosing how your image is outputted. The options that are presently available for outputting the file include: Normal Renders the conversion as a background image in the format of.png Non Selectable Image (SVG) Outputs the conversion as an.svg file which prevents any pixelation at all resolutions/zoom (so you can zoom without distortion). 13

Navigation Styles One of the options with the viewer is Navigation Style. For the Online converter there are two choices in terms of navigation styles, which can be used to help make it easier to navigate between pages. There are also two options to use IDR Viewer which renders the converted document in HTML5 with navigation and 'No Nav-bar' which is without a navgation bar. IDR Viewer This is the default choice for documents being converted on the online converter and consists of a built in viewer with a multiude of options which allow you to easily navigate the pages of a converted PDF. 14

Navigation Styles Continued... IDR Viewer - Navigation Bar This option allows you to have a navigation bar that pops out when you click on this icon. 15

Navigation Bar - Thumbnails This option is a default option on the IDR Viewer, it allows you to see thumbnails of the pages of your converted content. 16

Navigation Styles Continued... Navigation Bar - Outlines There is also an option to have outlines as an alternative navgation style. Clicking the 'Outlines' Icon will disable the thumbnails and show the desciption of the page, if you convert content supports it. To Switch back to thumbnails its simple, just click the thumbnails button. No Nav-bar The No Nav-bar option means that you will only get the HTML5 of the page and no navigation bar which is particular useful if you want to host your converted content the way you want to. 17

Other Options... Page Scaling This option is Page scaling; this is where you can decide how to scale the pages whether it be by percentage (100%, 75%, 50%, 25% or custom scale) or by pixel size (which can be specified to fit width, height or a best fit) or best fit which is done according to screen resolution (to best fit, PC, Tablets and smartphone screens). Page Range This option allows you to select whether you want the entire PDF converted to HTML5 (Whole) or maybe only some pages of the document (Custom). Choosing the Custom option will allow you to specify a range of pages. You are also given the choice of whether to have full document numbering when the custom option is selected, to allow for you to know which pages (by page numbering) were converted. 18

Other Options Download your PDF This option listed as Other options allows you to select whether you want the option to be able to download the PDF from within the IDR Viewer. When viewed from within the IDR Viewer there will be an option to download located in the top right hand corner. 19

Social Media The final option available on the online converter customisation choices is Social Media For social media you have a choice of adding Social Media buttons to your HTML5 document. These include the popular social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google + and LinkedIn which will be displayed with the converted document. Note: Selecting Continuous Magazine, Single Document (Vertical) and Single Document (Horizontal) from view mode will mean that navigation styles are unavailable as an option. 20

Next Steps, Add Videos & Online Support Set the conversion options and convert! Once you ve selected you options for customising click the blue button Upload & Convert, the file will be uploaded to the converter for conversion. You can also reload your saved configuration by clicking this box and uploading it, but before you do that you'll need to save your current configuration There is also an option to add videos with the editor allowing you to embed Youtube videos in your HTML5 content. 21
