CHARGING Before you use your voice recorder, you should charge it for several hours, atleast 4 the first time or until battery level shows full. You can do this by connecting it to your computer s USB port, or buying optional wall adapter. Hint: Charge faster via wall adapter. CONNECTING TO A PC You do not need to download any drivers to connect your device to a PC or Mac. Simply connect the USB cable to your recorder. Connect the other end directly to a USB port on your PC. Do not use a hub. In a few moments, your PC will automatically connect to the voice recorder. The first time, it may install standard drivers. This is normal. Your voice recorder will charge while connected, and you can also access the files on it. You can now use the voice recorder as you would any external drive or USB flash drive. Remember to EJECT your device before pulling the USB cable out. Page 3
QUICK START - RECORD Need to start recording immediately, without reading the entire manual first, then read this page: Turn the System Power Switch to ON. In fact, leave the Power Switch in the ON all the time. Going forward, use the PLAY button as your subsequent POWER SWITCH. More on this in subsequent Turn the (REC) button to REC position to begin recording. On the screen you will notice the record counter active. Your unit is now recording. The screen will turn off in a few seconds. This is a power saving mode. Unit should still be recording while screen is off. To stop recording, slode record switch back to SAVE position. Do not use the system power switch each time. Turning system power switch will delete all your custom settings. Page 4
QUICK PLAYBACK This section only adresses playing back recordings Start from ANY SCREEN 1. press PLAY. Unit will begin playing back recorded files in order. 2. Press PLAY again to pause playback. Press play again to resume VOLUME: While unit is in playback mode, first press the VOLUME button then use the PREV or NEXT buttons to increase or decrease volume. SKIP: While playing a file, you can skip to next or previous file via NEXT or PREV buttons. See image below. SET TIME & DATE This voice recorder has time and date stamp on each recording. The time the file was recorded is saved as time modified. So we recommend you change the system time right away! Buttons used for this will be the VOLUME, PREV and NEXT buttons (see image below) Volume Prev Next Setting time & Date: Please turn the Main System/Power Switch to ON, or if it is already on and screen is off press and hold the PLAY button till screen is on. You should be in MUSIC MODE at this point. 1. Press the PREV or NEXT button until you are in SETTING MODe on screen. Press M to enter this mode 2. use PREV or NEXT to highlight RECORD TIME, then press MODE to select. 3. Press VOL button once. Year will begin to blink. 4. Use PREV or NEXT button to select corect year. Press VOL to confirm and move to next set of numbers 5. Repeat instructions 3-4 until all time and date numbers have been corrected 6. Press MODE to exit to previous level Page 6
Platinum Nano Voice Recorder : SB-VR9920 RECORD QUALITY The Platinum Nano has to record quality modes: 192kbps and 384kbps Keep in mind that the higher the record quality the less recording time you will get with regards to memory. In this case this unit has 8Gb of memory space. 1. At 384 kbps - You will get approximately 48 hours of memory recording time before memory gets full, but quality level is crisper. 2. At 92 kbps you will get about 72 hours of memory time NOTE: Battery time is not affected by this. Just the memory space. So you will still look to get about 40 hour of non stop recording before you will have to recharge unit, and the same almost 200hrs of standby time. CHANGING RECORDING QUALITY: 1. From the default screen, press PREV or NEXt to get to SETTING MODE 2. Press MODE tp select Highlight REC SET and press MODE to select 3. Highlight RECORD TYPE and press MODE to select 4. Use PREV or NEXT button to select your preferred record quality (192 or 384) then press MODE to select 5. You are done 6. EXIT by pressing and holding the MODE button to return to SETTING MODE main screen. IMPORTANT NOTE: This unit will turn off if idle for a minute. Platinum Nano Voice Recorder : SB-VR9920 MODES There are many other mode settings. When you turn unit on the first time, it defaults to MUSIC MODE. If you have any songs on the device, you can just press the PLAY button to start playing your songs. However it has many other features. You can get to them via the MODE button. PLAY/ Power ON Headphone jack Volume Prev Next MODE FROM DEFAULT SCREEN (MUSIC MODE), use the PREV or NEXT buttons to switch modes: MUSIC MODE-This is where you can manage/play your uploaded songs. ESCAPE out of music mode by pressing and holding the MODE button. This will take you back to the beginning where you can use the PREV or NEXT buttons to toggle to the other modes. RECORD MODE- This option allows you to manage your recorded songs SETTING MODE- This mode allows you to manage microphone settings, Record quality,record gain settings, AVR level, System time, Backlight time, LANGUAGE, POWER OFF TIME, MEMORY INFO,FIRMWARE VERSION, EXIT. IMPORTANT NOTE: This unit will turn off if idle for a minute. To turn unit on again, press and hold the PLAY button. Do not use the system power switch each time. OTHER DEVICE SETTINGS SETTING MODE - Other features: REC SETTINGS: RECORD TYPE: 192 or 384 kbps RECORD GAIN SETTING: levels 1-7. Use PREV or NEXT to change number AVR LEVEL: 0-10. This is the VOICE ACTIVATION sensitivity level. 10 is most sensitive, 1 is least. AVR DELAY: 0-10. This is how quickly the recording should begin WHEN voice is detected. Number is in seconds. RECORD TIME: see page 6 for instructions IMPORTANT NOTE: This unit will turn off if idle for a minute. To turn unit on again, press and hold the PLAY button. WHERE ARE YOUR FILES? You can playback your files without the need of plugging the device to your computer. This recorder has a powerful speaker. However it is a little easier to manage your files via a computer. We will give you both methods below: VIA RECORDER: 1. Turn device on. 2. Go to RECORD MODE and press MODE to select 3. You will see screen below (data on screen will be different from yours. Format will be the same) 4. Press PLAY to play current file or 5. Use PREV or NEXT to move between recorded files Current file: 2 of 5 total files File name Total time elapsed (play time) Total length of current file Quality level of current file DELETING A FILE: 1.Select the file you wish to delete 2. Press MODE button then use PREV or NEXT to select DELETE FILE or DELETE ALL. Please note that use this feature if you are really done with this file. If you wish to save it for future reference, we recommend you connect this unti to your computer and copy and save the files to your computer THEN delete the files. Just a thought! Page 10
WHERE ARE YOUR FILES? VIA COMPUTER: 1. Connect recorder to computer via included USB cable. Plug to recorder FIRST then to computer NEXT. 2. Options window will pop up. Select OPEN FOLDER TO VIEW FILES. 3. Your recordings will be in the RECORD folder (see below) 4. Manage files like you will manage any other files: Transfer, copy, paste etc Your recordings will be in this folder Page 11
SUGGESTED SOFTWARE Your Windows PC or Mac has built-in software that will play most of the files created by devices like yours. However, if you are having problems playing your files, or need more options, please download and try these programs. This software is free and can be downloaded directly from the links below. You can find support and tutorials for these programs on their respective websites. SafetyBasement can not provide software support for these programs As with ANY files you download from the internet, be sure to scan them for viruses using your particular virus scanner. While most users report no issues using this software, we can not be responsible for any damage caused by this software. Please proceed carefully. Back up your PC before installing any new software. VIDEO PLAYBACK - VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html) The VLC Media Player can play almost any video or audio file type. There is a version for Windows and for Mac OS X. VIDEO EDITING for WINDOWS - MOVIE MAKER 2012 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-movie-makerdownload) Movie Maker is a simple video editing program from Microsoft. Please go to this link, and choose the download for your version of Windows. Please note: Movie Maker is part of the Windows Essentials package. VIDEO EDITING for MAC OS X - imovie (Visit the Apple Mac App Store for latest version) imovie is a simple video editing program from Apple. It comes installed with your new Mac. The latest version is also available at the Mac App Store at additional cost. AUDIO PLAYBACK and EDITING - AUDACITY (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) Audacity is a popular audio editing program used by amateurs and professionals to edit simple and complex audio projects. You can use Audacity to convert your audio files to another format, such as MP3. There is a version for Windows and Mac OS X. PHOTOS Your Windows and Mac computers have the ability to do basic editing of photos built in. Page 12
