MidSequer Function Overview 1. Open/close the menu toolbar. The "three vertical dots" button at the lower right (16) performs the same function. 2. Open/close the Song Settings dialog (to set tempo and time signature) 3. Open/close the Track Settings dialog (to set and preview the current track's instrument) 4. Timeline 5. Paste marker 6. Enable/disable note preview and scrubbing; when enabled, entering/editing a note sounds the note. 7. Track indicator and track selection: The 16 rectangles represent the 16 available tracks (row 1 = tracks 1-8; row 2 = tracks 9-16); the red rectangle indicates the current track. Tap to open the Track Select dialog. 8. Work area 9. Set the grid resolution; available options are 1/8, 1/8T, 1/16, 1/16T, and 1/32 10. Piano roll keyboard. Use as a reference when placing notes. Menu Toolbar Pressing either of the menu buttons opens/closes the menu toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Project Tap the Project button to open the Project Menu dialog. Options are New, Open, Save, Save as..., and Export to MIDI File(.mid). The Open function includes an audio preview of the selected project file. Mixer Tap the Mixer button to open the Mixer dialog, which is used to mix the tracks and can also be used to select the current track (using the number buttons on the left). Settings Tap the Settings button to open the MidSequer Preferences dialog. Screen settings determines the screen orientation (Landscape, Portrait, or Unspecified, which allows the screen to used in either orientation). Sensitivity adjusts the touch and hold sensitivity of the piano roll editor. By default, the Sensitivity slider is centered. Set Sensitivity to Fast when using a stylus. About Tap the About button to open the About box, which includes a button to visit the developer's web site. utworks MidSequer Page 3

Creating and Editing Notes Unless otherwise specified, editing operations work in both Add (Pencil) and Select (Dotted Square) modes. To add a note, set the Add/Select Note button to Pencil, and then press and hold at the desired location on the piano roll. Drag right or left to adjust the note length. Drag up or down to adjust the note pitch. Release when done. To select one note, tap it quickly. The note changes color from blue to purple. Repeat to select multiple individual notes. To select multiple notes within a rectangular area, set the Add/Select Note button to Dotted Square, press and hold at one corner of the desired rectangular area, drag to the opposite corner of the desired rectangular area (the selection area should appear in a yellow-green color), and then release. To unselect one or more notes, quickly tap in an empty area of the piano roll grid. To delete one or more notes, select the desired notes and then quickly tap one of them to delete all selected notes. To move a note, tap and hold to select and then move the note to the desired position. It's also possible to move multiple selected notes together. An alternative way to move notes is to use the on-screen arrows that appear at the lower left corner of the piano roll when at least one note is selected. To change the length of one or more selected notes, press and hold the right edge of a selected note and drag left or right. To copy selected notes, tap the Copy button near the lower right corner. To paste copied notes, set the paste marker by tapping in the timeline area at the desired position, and then tap the Paste button near the lower right corner. It's also possible to duplicate a selection. With one or more notes selected, tap the Duplicate button to open the Duplicate Event dialog. Other Features Timeline Scrubbing Tap the speaker icon to enable (white; outlined) or disable (grey; not outlined) scrubbing. With scrubbing enabled, dragging the blue paste marker from left to right in the timeline will sound the notes under the marker. utworks MidSequer Page 5
