Unit-I Basic Of Information Technology What is Basic of IT- Information technology (IT) is the application of computers to store, study, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data, or information, often in the context of a business or other enterprise. IT is considered a subset of information and communicationstechnology (ICT).

What is INTERNET - The internet is the biggest world-wide communication network of computers. It has millions of smaller domestic, academic, business, and government networks, which together carry many different kinds of information. The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. The Internet is the publicly available worldwide system of interconnected computer networks that transmit data by packet switching over the Internet Protocol (IP). The history of the internet in India began with the launch of the Educational Research Network (ERNET) in 1986.

What is World Wide Web - The World Wide Web (abbreviated WWW or the Web) is an information space where documents and other webresources are identified by Uniform Resource Locators (URLs), interlinked by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the Internet. English scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989. The World Wide Web ("WWW" or "The Web") is the part of the Internet that contains websites and webpages. It was invented in 1989 by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. Sir Tim Berners-Lee created a new markup language called HTML. The World Wide Web is a global information medium which users can read and write via computers connected to the Internet. WorldWideWeb is the first web browser and editor. It was discontinued in 1994.

What is Web Servers - A web server is a computer system that processes requests via HTTP, the basic network protocol used to distribute information on the World Wide Web. A web server (sometimes called an HTTP server or application server) is a program that serves content using the HTTP protocol. Example- Apache HTTP Server. This is the most popular web server in the world developed by the Apache Software Foundation.... 2. Internet Information Services.... 3. Sun Java System Web Server. 4. Application server 5. Proxy server

What is Web Clients - A web client is an application that communicates with a web server, using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). Hypertext Transfer Protocol is the protocol behind the World Wide Web. With every webtransaction, HTTP is invoked.

What is Web Sites - A website, or simply a site, is a collection of relatedweb pages, including multimedia content, typically identified with a common domain name, and published on at least one web server.

What is Web Pages - A web page (also written as webpage) is a document that is suitable for the World Wide Web and web browsers. A web browser displays a web page on a monitor or mobile device. The web page is what displays, but the term also refers to a computer file, usually written in HTML or comparable markup language. Web browsers coordinate the various web resource elements for the written web page, such as style sheets, scripts, and images, to present the web page.

What is Web Browsers - A web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI/URL) that may be a web page, image, video or other piece of content The most popular web browsers are Chrome, Edge (preceded by Internet Explorer)

What is Blogs- A regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style. Add new material to or regularly update a blog. A website, similar to an online journal, that includes chronological entries made by individuals i.e. called Blog.

What is News Groups- A newsgroup is a discussion about a particular subject consisting of notes written to a central Internet site and redistributed through Usenet, a worldwide network of news discussion groups. Usenet uses the Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP).

What is HTML- Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications.

What is web Address- An internet address of a website, file, or document in the general format. http://www.address/directories/filename. Every computer connected to the internet has its unique web address, without which it cannot be reached by other computers. Also called universal resource locator or Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

What is E-mail Address- An email address is the address of an electronic postbox that can receive (and send) email messages on a network. The general format of an email address is local-part@domain, and a specific example is jsmith@example.com. An address consists of two parts. The part before the @ symbol (local-part) identifies the name of a mailbox. This is often the username of the recipient, e.g., jsmith

What is URL- A URL (Uniform Resource Locator), as the name suggests, provides a way to locate a resource on the web, the hypertext system that operates over the internet.... A URL is the most common type of Uniform Resource Identifier (URI). Uniform Resource Locator: a protocol for specifying addresses on the Internet.

What is HTTP- HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is the set of rules for transferring files (text, graphic images, sound, video, and other multimedia files) on the World Wide Web. As soon as a Web user opens their Web browser, the user is indirectly making use of HTTP. HTTP is the foundation of data communication for the World Wide Web. Hypertext is structured text that uses logical links (hyperlinks) between nodes containing text. HTTP is the protocol used to transfer data over the web. It is part of the Internet protocol suite and defines commands and services used for transmitting webpage data.

What is FTP- The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network over TCP/IP connections. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the commonly used protocol for exchanging files over the Internet. FTPworks in the same way as HTTP and SMTP. Method of transferring data files from one computer to another over a network History of FTP server. The original specification for the File Transfer Protocol was written by Abhay Bhushan and published as RFC 114 on 16 April 1971

Uploading files from remote site- To upload files In Remote Web Access, click the Shared Folders tab, and then click a shared-folder link. A list of the files and folders in that shared folder is displayed. From the shared-folder list of files and folders, click the folder where you want to upload the file to, and then click Upload. If the standard upload tool is not already loaded, click Use the standard upload method. Click Browse to find a file on your computer. Navigate through the folders on your computer to find the file that you want to upload, and then click Open. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for each file that you want to upload. When you have added all of the files that you want to upload, click Upload.

Downloading files from remote site- To download a single file In Remote Web Access, click the Shared Folders tab, and then click a shared-folder link. A list of the files and folders in that shared folder is displayed. From the shared-folder file list, click the check box next to the file that you want to download to your home computer. Click Download to begin the download. On the File Download dialog box, click Save to save the file to your computer. In the Save As dialog box, select the location to save the file, and then click Save. A single file, it is not compressed before it is downloaded.

The tracing and recovery of specific information from stored data. Information Retrieval Information retrieval (IR) is the activity of obtaining information resources relevant to an information need from a collection of information resources. Searches can be based on fulltext or other content-based indexing.

Locating sites using search engines and finding people on the net. Search engines on the World Wide Web are remotely accessible programs... As a result, you may find that if either site changes, your experience with... Once you are in Forms Mode, you can then type in keywords that will define your search. A web search engine is a software system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web

Web Services: What is Chat? Talk in a friendly and informal way. An informal conversation. Chat is a text-based communication that is live or in real-time. For example, when talking to someone in chat any typed text is received by other participants immediately

What is E-mail? Messages distributed by electronic means from one computer user to one or more recipients via a network. Electronic Mail (email or e-mail) is a method of exchanging messages between people using electronic devices.

What is Video Conferencing? A video conference is a live, visual connection between two or more people residing in separate locations for the purpose of communication. At its simplest, video conferencing provides transmission of static images and text between two locations.
