INTRODUCTION Several new functionalities have been integrated in the latest release of the IPDirector, amongst which: > Router Control : the possibility to control an external router has been integrated in this latest release of IPDirector. It enables to manually change the assignment between router inputs and outputs directly from the IPDirector interface. This new functionality is available in different IPDirector applications (Recorder Panel, Control Panel, Ingest Scheduler, etc.) as explained in the next sections. > IPBrowse: the content of a bin can now be checked by previewing it from the Player pane. The series of clips will be played one after the other. Read more about it in this newsletter and don t hesitate to refer to the Release Note on EVS website through this link for more info. 2. NEW OPERATIONAL FEATURES OF IP DIRECTOR 6.20 2.1. ROUTER CONTROL Introduction Video routers can be used with IPDirector to increase the number of incoming feeds manageable by EVS server recorder channels and/or the number of output channels able to play out the media from a player channel, depending on the configuration of the installation. An EVS server recorder channel will be physically connected to an OUT port of the router, so the recorder channel records the feed received by the IN port of the router associated to this OUT port (see drawings hereunder). An EVS server player channel will be physically connected to an IN port of the router, so the media loaded on a player channel is sent to the OUT port(s) of the router associated to this IN port (see drawings hereunder). When a video router is used with an EVS server controlled by IPDirector, the router ports routed to the EVS server channels are shown in the IPDirector interface. So, users know exactly which router IN port is used by a recorder and to which router OUT port a player channel is routed. Some configuration is performed from the Remote Installer regarding the communication parameters and the association of router ports physically linked to EVS server channels. Page 2 of 7

However, IPDirector users with appropriate user rights have the possibility to manually switch the assignment between router IN ports and router OUT ports and this through several IPDirector applications (Recorder panel, Channel Explorer, Control Panel, VTR Panel, Ingest Scheduler, ). Assign a Router IN Port to a Recorder Channel Introduction: If a recorder channel is wired to an OUT port of a router, it records the feed received by the IN port of the router associated to this router OUT port. When you switch manually the assignment between router IN ports and router OUT ports another video signal will be recorded by the server recorder channel as soon as the router IN port assigned to the channel has changed. This can be done through the following applications. > Channel Explorer: right click the Recorder channel name and select the Assign Recorder Source function from the contextual menu. Select then the router IN port from the list. The name of the IN port is displayed next to the recorder channel name. > Recorder Panel and VTR Control Panel: click the Change Recorder Input button next to the Recorder Channel field. Select a new router IN port to associate with the recorder channel. > Ingest Scheduler: In case a router is used and a recorder channel is wired to one of its OUT ports (itself associated to an IN port), the name of the router IN port is displayed in the Ingest Scheduler interface next to the recorder channel. Page 3 of 7

Click the Change Recorder Input button next to the Recorder Channel field in case you wish to change the IN port. Select a new router IN port to associate with the recorder channel. The switch of the router IN port associated to a recorder channel is represented by a vertical dotted line in the channel track, at the timecode when it occurred: If the switch operation failed, a warning is displayed as follows: Assign a Router OUT Port to a Player Channel Introduction: If a player channel is wired to an IN port of a router, the media loaded on the player channel is sent to the OUT port(s) of the router associated to this IN port. When you switch manually the assignment between router IN ports and router OUT ports, the media loaded on a server player channel will be sent to another destination as soon as the router OUT port assigned to the channel has changed. Several OUT ports can be associated to a single player channel. This operation can be done from the Channel Explorer and from the Control Panel. A switch from an application automatically applies to the other one. > Channel Explorer: right click the Player channel name and select the Assign Player Destination from the contextual menu. Select then the router OUT port from the list. The name of the OUT port is displayed next to the player channel name. Page 4 of 7

> Control Panel: click the Change Player Output button next to the Player field. Remove existing associations if needed and select new router OUT ports to associate with the player channel. 2.2. IPBROWSE - PREVIEW OF BIN CONTENT The content of a bin can now be checked by previewing it from the Player pane through the Software Player. The series of clips will be played one after the other. When playing the bin, the Next and Previous buttons can be used to jump immediately to the next element of the bin or the jump to the previous one. 3. MODULES IN BETA RELEASE The following modules are available with IPDirector 6.20 but are not officially released yet. The modules cannot be used in live productions, but could be used for beta testing. 3.1. DIRECTOR S CUT With the Director s Cut module of IPDirector it is possible to backup or stream the director s cut, the ISO clips and metadata to the post-production. On one side all the ISO cameras are being recorded on EVS servers controlled by IPDirector. On the other side a hardware component, an EVS Switcher Gateway, is connected with the switcher and the IPDirector. Page 5 of 7

During the live show, the Director s Cut will also be recorded on the servers and all the camera switching will be registered by IPDirector. This latter one will create an EDL file at the end of the show that will then be exported in NLE native format (Avid, Apple and Adobe). At the same time the clips can be streamed towards an NLE system or to a portable drive which can be connected afterwards to an editing station. The editor can then open the EDL and see all the cuts the director has made during the show. He can then start searching for the errors and replace or fix them. 3.2. IP WEB BROWSE IP Web Browse provides similar features as the IP Browse application. The difference is that IP Web Browse is a web client using a Silverlight technology and thus provides remote browsing and searching of the IPDirector DB. This means that all the media located in the IPDirector environment can be accessed and the same handlings as in IP Browse can be done: create bins, add clips and send them to destinations configured in IPDirector. Because the software is running in a web browser window it is possible to run IP Web Browse in Mac OS and Windows. Page 6 of 7

4. VIDEO TUTORIALS ABOUT IPDIRECTOR 6 Several videos have been developed to provide an overview of certain IPDirector software applications and describe their basic operations. The advantage of tutorials is that they provide online training and information tools that can be consulted anywhere, anytime. Tutorials can also be used as a preparation to classroom training or as a refresher course for certain topics after having attended a course. They can be found on the EVS website on the Training Page. 5. SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS AND MANUALS Refer to the Download Page of the EVS Website and the Technical area for manuals, release notes and software packages to download. Page 7 of 7
