Indicating Digital Transmitter for Differential Pressure and Flow Media 6 with LCD Media 6 with LED Application Microprocessor-controlled transmitter for measuring and indicating the differential pressure or derived measured variables for gases or liquids in cryogenic service Measuring ranges from... 6 to... 6 mbar Nominal pressure PN 4 1) The Media 6 differential pressure meters are measuring and indicating devices for differential pressure and the measured variables derived from it. They are used to measure flow according to the differential pressure method and, above all, to measure the liquid level of pressure vessels. Cryogenic, liquified gases such as Ar, O 2, N 2, CO 2, H 2, He etc. are particularly suitable as process media. When used in combination with an appropriate power supply unit (e.g. Type 524-1 from SAMSON) for the electric power supply or the Media LOGI-Compact hardware for remote data transmission, the tank content (function of hydrostatic pressure, tank geometry data and liquid density of the stored gas) is converted into a current signal from 4 to 2 ma proportional to the tank content and displayed on a LCD in the selected measuring unit. Additionally, limit values can be monitored and indicated. Remote transmission of all relevant Media 6 data is possible using the Type 527 Media LOGI-Compact hardware and the Type 517 Media LOGI-Base software. The tank data can be transmitted via a phone line and modem to a remote PC, where they are analyzed. When used in combination with an orifice plate assembly (Type 9/Type 91 Orifice Flange), the Media 6 devices can be used for continuous flow measurement of gases, vapors and liquids (differential pressure method). Principle of operation (Fig. 2) The measuring device consists of a dp-cell (1) with a measuring diaphragm (1.1), measuring springs (1.2) designed to correspond to the span, and the indicating unit (7) with an LCD or LED. The differential pressure p = p 1 p 2 causes a shift in the axis (1.5) of the measuring diaphragm (1.1) supported by the measuring springs (1.2). The change in travel, which is proportional to the differential pressure, is led through a lever (1.) and the elastic disk (1.4) out of the pressure chamber to the displacement sensor (2). This sensor converts the travel into an electric signal. The signal of the displacement sensor (2) is compared to the data stored in the EEPROM (4) and processed in the microprocessor (). It controls both the LCD or LED and the D/A converter (9) for the output signal. The output signal, which is proportional to the measured value, is a load-independent direct current signal from 4 to 2 ma available at male connector A. At male connector B, two software limit switches (8) for min. alarm (e.g. minimum filling level) and max. alarm (e.g maximum filling level) are connected to the switching amplifier according to DIN EN 5 227. The RS-22 interface (1) enables the device to be configured with a special memory pen or directly via a PC with SAMSON s TROVIS-VIEW Configuration and Operator Interface. The userspecific data are saved in the EEPROM (4). This way, a backup copy of the data can be saved until they are overwritten. The operating data of the Media 6 can also be copied and loaded on site. The memory pen can be programmed using a PC and the corresponding SAMSON software TROVIS-VIEW with the operating data - type of gas, gas density, geometrical shape of the tank and location of the min./max limit switches. These details enable the conversion of the differential pressure into values which are proportional to the tank content to display and issue the direct current signal from 4 to 2 ma. Four types of gas as well as the span and write protection function can be set with the DIL switch (6). In combination with three keys (5), several operating functions (zero point and span adjustment, max. alarm limit switch and test function settings, etc.) as well as the operating status (load/save operating values) can be adjusted. 7 6 5 2 1.1 1.2 Indicating unit with LCD dp-cell Valve block with pressure gauge Indicating unit with LED 4 6 2 8 µp Fig. Principle of operation m % 1 p _ 2 p 1 + Ar O 2 N 2 CO 2 EEPROM Span: Start - Value End - Valvue 9 Male connector A UB =12 to 6 V_ IA = 4 to 2 ma 8 Male connector B Max. alarm Min. alarm RS-22 1 4 1.4 1. 1.5 1.2 1 Light emitting diode Plate for gas types and measuring ranges H Fig. 2 Principle of level measurement for liquified gases in cryogenic service H h h Storage tank Ar, N2, O2, CO2, etc. Measuring range Measured level (~tank content) + Media 6 with valve block 4 6 2 8 m % 1 p2 p1 1 dp-cell 1.1 Measuring diaphragm 1.2 Measuring spring 1. Electrical connection In combination with a power supply unit (e.g. SAMSON Type 524) or the Media LOGI-Compact hardware, the tank content can be transmitted and shown with the direct current signal 4 to 2 ma, which is proportional to the tank content. Additionally, the limit switches can be monitored and signalized. Data can be transferred either directly to the control room or, in combination with the Type 527 Media LOGI-Compact hardware and the Type 517 Media LOGI-Base software, to the PC of the gas supplier via phone line and modem. Mounting On mounting, it is important to make sure that the Media 6 device is attached to pipes, walls or mounting plates free of vibration, for pipe mounting, use mounting material with clamp to attach it to a vertical or horizontal pipe; use mounting material without clamp for wall mounting, see dimensional diagram in Fig. 6 for panel mounting. We recommend installing a shut-off valve and additionally an equalizing valve in the measuring lines. For this purpose, the SAMSON product range includes a valve block (see T 9555 EN) which is directly connected (flange-mounted) to the Media 6. Wall/panel mounting using two threaded holes M 8 in the rear side of the measuring chamber or two bore holes 8. mm in the valve block.
