Welcome Congratulations on your purchase of the Addonics Technologies ExData Pro software. We hope you will enjoy our product for its great features and value. This users guide is designed to help you install the ExData Pro. It should also explain all the various features built into the program. Your comments are valuable to us for further improvement to our existing and future products and services. In order for us to keep you informed of any updates on the ExData Pro, or on any new products or services from Addonics Technologies, please go online to www.addonics.com to register your warranty at your earliest convenience. Hardware Requirement - Any type of 2.5, 3.5 IDE hard drive and Addonics ExDrive (Once again, ExData Pro does not support SCSI hard drives) - 100% IBM compatible PCMCIA socket, or Universal Serial Bus (USB) - Pentium 133MHz or higher with 16MB memory or more Operating System Requirements Any of the Following: - Microsoft Windows for Workgroups - Microsoft Windows 95/98 - Microsoft Windows NT 3

Introduction Introduction To The ExData Pro Now you don t have to backup your data until everyone has left the office, or your family member has done with the computer. Just Setup the backup schedule and job, then let the ExData Pro to do all the works while you are away from your computer. ExData Pro can be your lifesaver. If your master hard drive crashes, you will still have you mirror drive to back you up, and keeps everyone happy. The Addonics Technologies ExData Pro is an effective tool to back up your valuable data. It allows you to back up the critical data at the schedule you prefer. Not just that, with ExData Pro, you can also choose a particular folder or file you want to backup, so you do not have you duplicate the whole drive again. If you have more than one backup hard drive, you can create a different job and schedule for different users. For example, Alvin wants backup the C:\My Document\HTML folder s HTML files for his Website, and Esther wants to backup the C:\Program Files\Money\Backup folder s financial data. And now Alvin can backup his data on the Mirror drive F: 11:00PM at Saturday, and Esther can direct her backup job to mirror drive G: at 11:00AM every Sunday. However, they can use the InstantSync option in AutoSync to do a instant backup. There are many different ways to use the ExData Pro software, have fun on exploring them. Note: You have been brief on the benefits on ExData Pro. In addition, Addonics Tech Support Department strongly suggests you do a virus scan on your existing hard drive. You are taking a huge risk if you don t scan your hard disk(s) before you do the backup, the chances are transferring the virus on your existing hard drive(s) to your new backup hard drive. 4

Installation 1. Insert the Exdata Pro diskette into the 3.5 floppy drive. Open My Computer and open your X: drive (X = the drive letter for your 3.5 floppy drive, usually A:). Note: Try to close all the programs while you install the ExData Pro software. 5

2. Scroll down and double click on the Setup.exe icon. Note: The Setup.exe icon looks like a computer system. 3. Click OK to install the ExData Pro under the default Directory. 6

4. Windows is now installing Exdata Pro. 5. Insert the Disk # 2. 6. Click OK to install the ExData Pro under the default directory. 7

7. Restart your computer, and you are ready to use the ExData Pro. Note: Remember to take the ExData Pro diskette out of the floppy disk drive before restart. 8

Back Them Up Backing up the Data for the First Time 1. You should see both master and slave hard drives before you move onto the next step. Note: The picture is shown with an internal 2.5GB IDE primary slave. Attention ExData User Did you remember to partition and format the hard drive before this? That might be the reason you cannot see your other hard drive(s)! 9

2. Click on the Synchronize tab, and highlight the primary master as the source and primary slave as the destination, then click Synchronize to backup your data. 3. You can rename the label with something other than MIRROR_DRV, and click start to begin the very first backup. 10

4. Exdata Pro is backing up your whole hard drive to your slave backup drive. 5. Now your master hard drive is fully copied onto the slave drive. You can now turn on the AutoSync to do Advance backup features. 6 Make a right click on the AutoSync icon on the task bar to enable it. AutoSync Icon 11

Note: Click enable to enable the autosnyc. Advanced Backup After you have synchronized for the very first time, you can use ExData Pro s Autosnyc option to backup your data by file, folder, directory or the whole hard drive. And you can also set the time you want to backup your data. Now let s take a look at the simple steps. 1. Click Schedule to setup the time you want to backup your data. 12

2. Just click next to continue. 3. You can choose to backing up the data with startup, before shutdown, when computer is idle (Checked by default) or advanced scheduling options. 13

4. All schedule options are really easy to use, and that goes the same to the Advanced Scheduling. *You can choose to backup your data daily, weekly or monthly. 5. To select a job, you need to choose from a drive (In this case, there is only one source drive). 6. And you can choose only the folder(s) you want to back up in the future. 14

7. Uncheck everything else that you do not wish to back up (In this case we choose the INF folder in Windows folder). 8. Click Update Job and type in a job name (In this case it s Untitled). 9. Now your system is in good shape. Your system will backup the data at your the schedules you set up. And in case something happens to your primary hard drive, you still have everything on the secondary hard drive. 15

Advanced Backup Upgrade Running out of space on your hard drive? No problem! Just add another hard drive, FDISK it and FORMAT it. And use the Upgrade feature in your ExData Pro to transform your old small drive into a larger and faster hard drive. Just highlight your primary master as the source drive and your primary slave as the destination drive. Click on the Upgrade button and you are good to go. Note. You need to make sure the drive that you are upgrading to is larger than your current drive. Advanced Backup Restore Basically, the Restore feature is almost same as the Upgrade feature. Let s say if you have to make a backup copy of your current hard disk to another larger hard disk. Or you can use the backup hard drive to restore your old hard drive. 16

Choose the Source drive and the Destination drive and click restore button. Click Yes to continue. Click Yes to continue. 17

Troubleshooting: Problem: Answer: Green power light does not come on, or the driver cannot be installed. Make sure the power cord is plugged into a working outlet, and the ExDrive has powered on. Problem: Answer: The installation program cannot find the Ex Drive or it does not assigned a drive letter for the ExDrive. (a) Make sure the green power light on the Portable Hard Drive is lit. (b) Make sure the drive is securely connected to the PCMCIA/USB port of your computer. Problem: Answer: Having date transfer problems or erratic drive operation (a) Make sure the green power light on the PortableHard Drive is lit. (b) Make sure the drive is securely connected to the PCMCIA socket or USB port of your computer. Problem: Answer: The power light of the ExDrive is lit, and the Device Driver was installed correctly. However, the system can t assign a drive letter for it. Make sure your 2.5 hard drive was partitioned and formatted correctly. 18

Problem: Answer: I formatted the hard drive. But I still can t see the drive. Did you formatted with a NT workstation? Make sure the file system on the 2.5 hard drive matches your operating system. Windows 95/98 does not support NTFS.
