INTRODUCTION: Panopto is the audio video capture system currently used in the Loyola 101 counseling lab. Due to a restricted number of licenses, this program is only available for the counseling lab and its users at this time. To access Panopto, please be sure that the prerequisites below are met before moving on to the instructions. PREREQUISITES: The website is only available when connected to the campus network, either with an Ethernet cable, using SU-secure Wireless, or via VPN connection. Dual Core processor or better 4 GB of RAM or more Broadband Internet connection with a 300Kbps download speed Mac OS X, Windows 7, or Windows 8 Microsoft Silverlight must be installed in your web browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, or Firefox) Please note: Chrome does NOT support Microsoft Silverlight. INSTRUCTIONS Log into Panopto Online 1. Before trying to use Panopto, ensure that the prerequisites detailed above are met. 2. Open your web browser and go to http://oitpan1.seattleu.edu 3. Choose SEATTLEU in the drop-down menu. 4. Enter your Seattle University username and password. Using the Recorder Before trying to use Panopto, ensure that the prerequisites detailed above are met. ONLINE 1. Log into Panopto at http://oitpan1.seattleu.edu. 2. Click the record button. 2
3. In the screen that pops up, click Launch Recorder in the lower left corner. Note: If any other prompts appear, click Allow. FROM YOUR DESKTOP Note: The quickest way to launch the recorder is to follow the instructions above for launching the recorder from the website online. The benefit of launching the recorder from the website is that you will only have to log in once instead of twice. For instructions on manually launching the recorder, continue to the instructions below. 1. On the computer desktop, open the Panopto Recorder. 2. Log in with your Seattle University username and password using the following format: seattleu\username. 3. Enter a filename for the recording where it reads Record a new session called. It should be listed in the following format: Your name session#x 4. Set Quality to High Quality. Optional Steps the following steps are no longer required as all students have been configured with devices and folder presets. These options should be automatically selected. You may skip to step 10. 5. Choose the folder to save your recording to. Do this by clicking on the down arrow next to Folder Name. 6. Select the Broadcast and Record check box. (This is for large screen preview). 7. In the Primary Source video preview window (Just below the picture window). 8. Be sure video is set to UVC Camera and Audio to Microphone. 3
9. Under Secondary Capture Sources, uncheck all the boxes. 10. Before clicking Record, your Panopto Recorder window should look like this 11. Click Record 12. When finished with the recording, click Stop 13. Recording Status will show upload/processing of file 14. You can close out this window once it reads Uploaded Recordings in the upper left corner. Do not log out or close Panopto until the green and yellow bars next to your session are finished. 4
15. When completed, file is viewable from the recorder or web server. Larger Recorder Preview (Broadcast) 1. Before trying to use Panopto, ensure that the prerequisites detailed above are met. 2. Log into Panopto at http://oitpan1.seattleu.edu. 3. Launch the Panopto Recorder and check the Broadcast and Record box. 4. In the bottom of the Panopto window, click Copy. 5. Open your web browser and paste the copied URL into the address bar. 6. Press Enter to navigate to that page. 7. You will be prompted to log into the session. 8. When finished, remember to return to the recorder to stop your recording. View Your Session 1. Before trying to use Panopto, ensure that the prerequisites detailed above are met. 2. Log into Panopto at http://oitpan1.seattleu.edu. 3. Select a folder. 4. Click the link to the session you want to view. Take Notes on Your Video Instructors and students can add notes to recordings any time after the recording is processed. Notes can be set as private (for author only) or public (for anyone who has permissions to view the recording i.e. both instructors and students). 1. Before trying to use Panopto, ensure that the prerequisites detailed above are met. 2. Log into Panopto at http://oitpan1.seattleu.edu. 3. Select a session to view. 4. Type notes in the Notes box. 5. Set as private or public with the Lock Icon. Notes are automatically locked and private. To unlock, click on the lock in the upper right side of the screen and it will be unlocked. SWITCHING BETWEEN HEADSET SOUND AND TV SOUND 1. In the right hand corner of the screen near Date and Time, there is a sound icon. Rightclick on this icon. 2. In the menu that appears, choose Playback Devices. 3. The Sound Window appears. a. If you would like to switch from headphone sound to TV sound, right-click on SAMSUNG and select Set as Default Device. Click OK to close the window. b. If you would like to switch from TV sound to headphone sound, right-click on Speakers and select Set as Default Device. Click OK to close the window. 6
HOW DO I ADJUST THE SOUND LEVELS OF THE MICROPHONE 1. In the right hand corner of the screen near Date and Time, there is a sound icon. Rightclick on this icon. 2. In the menu that appears, choose Recording Devices. 3. In the Sound Window that appears, select the Recording Tab. 4. In the Recording Tab, double-click on Microphone. 5. In the Microphone Properties, select the Levels tab. 7
6. Move the slider up or down to adjust the volume of the microphone. 7. Click OK. After clicking OK, you should be able to hear the changes. Note: It is recommended that Microphone Boost not be used. Only turn Microphone boost up if the microphone cannot be heard after setting the microphone volume up to 100. If boost is turned on, then the microphone volume might have to be adjusted down. Changes will be noticeable after clicking Apply or OK. If you are viewing a broadcast, this will be noticed in about 7 seconds. Connecting to the Seattle University Network If you would like to view Panopto videos from off campus, you must install the VPN on your computer and use it each time you access Panopto. If you are on campus, you must be connected to the Seattle University Network using an Ethernet cord, or via an SU-secure wireless connection. Learn how to install and use VPN Learn about SU-secure 8
