What is Virtual RAM? Configured virtual RAM is the total memory allocated to a virtual machine Reserved RAM is the portion of physical host memory committed to the virtual machine or resource pool VM with Total Configured vram = 16GB Reserved = 12 GB (75%) Over-Commit = 4 GB
Collection Objects Timestamp when usage data is collected Host DNS name Host RAM (physical memory) vsphere license type Virtual machine DNS and vcenter host names Virtual machine allocated RAM Virtual machine reserved RAM VM CPU (count of virtual CPUs) VM Instance UUID (universal unique identifier) vsphere inventory objects
Architecture Version 2.0 VMware Virtual Appliance Application: Adobe Flex,Tomcat 6 Database: PostgreSQL Multiple processes for vcenter Server polling and server operations. Version 2.1 and beyond VMware Virtual Appliance Application: Developed with Scala with web framework in Lift,Tomcat 7 Database: PostgreSQL Single process for all operations
Version 2.3 Added features End Users are now managed by virtual appliance Rules attached to end users are mapped to vsphere Inventory Updated UI based on VMware guidelines Collection of SRM product usage Report filters based on customer details New vsphere license categories for VSPP, Perpetual, and Demo Bug fixes Fixed parallel collection errors when 5 or more vcenters connected Resolved log4j errors when setting appliance passwords

Once a rule has been established, all virtual machines deployed to a vsphere inventory object are associated with a customer along with the vram usage. vsphere inventory objects supported vcenter Server Folder Datacenter Virtual Machine DNS name Cluster Virtual Machine vcenter name Host IPv4 Address Resource Pool vapp
Managing Customers Rules Customer rules can be created by importing tab separated file Customer rules can be created using UI Selecting directly from vsphere Inventory filter tree Mapped to moref and vcenter Server Mapped to Folder, vapp, Resource Pool, or Virtual Machine name Exact String Sub String Regular Expression vcenter Server, Datacenter, Cluster, Host Unique ID
