NZQF NQ Ref 0111 Version 5 Page 3 of 8 National Certificate in Rigging with strands in Basic Rigging, Intermediate Rigging, and Advanced Rigging Level Credits 3 or 4 (depending on strand) 128-188 (depending on strand) Purpose The National Certificate in Rigging with strands in Basic Rigging, Intermediate Rigging, and Advanced Rigging is designed to produce industry competent riggers. It recognises the skills and knowledge required to work as a rigger. The terms basic, intermediate, and advanced refer to the range of equipment used, and the level of competence of the qualification holder. The equipment increases in range and complexity from the Basic Rigging strand, through the Intermediate Rigging strand, to the Advanced Rigging strand. Holders of the National Certificate with the Basic Rigging strand are able to select the proper sling; sling loads; and direct and position loads. They can work safely within the capability of the crane and with straightforward loads. Holders of the National Certificate with the Intermediate Rigging strand are able to carry out all basic functions; rig cranes, conveyers, and similar gear for heavy lifts; handle the associated rope work; and work at heights. Holders of the National Certificate with the Advanced Rigging strand are able to meet the top equipment usage level in the rigging industry, such as guyed derricks, gin poles, cable ways and fabricated hung scaffolds. They are also able to plan and supervise complex operations. This is the highest level qualification available in this industry. Much of the Core Compulsory section of this National Certificate is common to the National Certificate in Scaffolding with strands in Basic Scaffolding, Advanced Scaffolding, and Suspended Scaffolding [Ref: 0110] so that people wishing to change direction in their work or add further skills are able to do so. Special notes Entry is open. However, physical strength, dexterity, balance, coordination and motor skills all need to be unimpaired to work within this industry, for safety reasons.
