SYSTEM MAINTENANCE MANUAL TACTICAL ENGAGEMENT SIMULATION SYSTEM (TESS) TARGET TRAINING SYSTEM (TTS) OCONUS FIXED LOCATION INSTALLATION INITIAL SETUP Preconditions Coordinate the TTS setup with the training exercise planners to ensure the TTS is configured with the correct Player Identification (PID) and player type. And the correct setup location is identified. Service upon receipt completed (WP 0006) IPU, WLS, and IPS batteries fully charged (WP 0009) Personnel Required 1 Person Tools Required Screwdriver, cross-tip, No. 2 (WP 0029 figure 3 item 3) Wrench, open End, 7/16 (WP 0029 figure 3 item 4) Hex Key, 3/16, 9-1/4 Blade Length (WP 0029 figure 3 item 11) Equipment Required Target Training System (TTS) kit OCONUS Antenna kit Consumables Required Velcro self-adhesive strip - AR PROCEDURES WARNING If you do the OCONUS TTS fixed location installation in extreme temperature and/or high humidity, make sure you have appropriate clothing, shade, and hydrating fluids. Follow local standard operating procedures and guidance when working in extreme conditions. 0010-1
0010 SMM 01-6920-715-24 Make sure that the IPU battery is fully charged. If BB-390B/U, BA-5590/U, or BA-5390A/U battery is utilized, IPU operation time can be less than 48 hours. Make sure the Instrumentation Power Supply (IPS) batteries are fully charged. Make sure the WLS batteries are fully charged. The WLS batteries may be installed in the WLS already. The WLS is capable of operating on AA disposable and rechargeable 1.5V batteries of different chemistry than the provided AA rechargeable alkaline. If batteries of other chemistry are utilized, the battery must be removed when the WLS is turned off. Instrumentation Player Unit (IPU) Installation If different chemistry batteries are installed in the WLS, identify the WLS with type of battery installed. Use tape and permanent marker. Do not put tape on top part of housing or obstruct indicator light. 1. Open the TTS storage case and remove the IPU, IPU GreenLinks antenna, antenna pole mount, six Wireless Laser Sensors (WLS), and IPU power cable (Figure 1). 2. Loosen the two screws on the IPU battery door, open the door, and remove the battery (Figure 2). 3. Make sure the battery is fully charged. CAUTION Do not apply power to the IPU before connecting the TM antenna cable to the IPU applicable antenna connection. If the IPU is operated in the telemetry mode without the TM antenna cable attached to the applicable IPU ANT connector, damage to the radio transceiver can occur. Do not force battery onto connector. connector can occur. Damage to battery or 4. Install the IPU battery, align the battery with the IPU connector. Make sure that the battery is fully seated onto connector. 5. Make sure Compact Flash (CF) memory card is installed in the CF memory card slot. CAUTION Do not tighten battery door screws more than 15 in-lb. (1.69 N m). If you tighten the screws too much, damage to the screws or threaded inserts can occur. 6. Close the battery door and tighten the two screws, tighten screws hand-tight. 7. Install the GreenLinks antenna on the IPU, tighten antenna hand tight. 0010 SMM 01-6920-715-24 The IPU should be placed in any location where it can be easily seen from the surrounding area. The IPU can be placed on top of the TTS storage case, if no other suitable location exists. 8. Place the TTS case in an open and visible location (Figure 3). IPU TTS CASE Figure 3. IPU and TTS Case. 9. Connect the IPU to power supply cable to the IPU POWER J4 connector (Figure 4). POWER J4 Figure 4. IPU Power Connection. 10. OCONUS TTS Telemetry Antenna Installation CAUTION Do not apply power to the IPU before connecting the TM antenna cable to the IPU applicable antenna connection. If the IPU is operated in the telemetry mode without the TM antenna cable attached to the applicable IPU ANT connector, damage to the radio transceiver can occur. The adapter may already be installed on the ground plane. 1. Remove the ground plane, adapter, OCONUS antenna, Telemetry (TM) OCONUS cable, and modified antenna pole from the antenna storage case. 0010-5
0010 SMM 01-6920-715-24 2. Install the OCONUS antenna onto the ground plane as follows (Figure 7): CAUTION The antenna nut should be only hand tightened to prevent damage to the antenna filament. If the adapter is already installed on the ground plane skip steps 2.a thru 2.e. a. Unscrew the adapter nut from the adapter and remove the nut and flat washer from the adapter. b. Insert the adapter threaded end through the ground plane. c. Install the flat washer and adapter nut onto the adapter. d. Hand-tighten the adapter nut. e. Make sure the O-ring is on the adapter. f.
