On-Page Optimization On Page Optimization and keyword placement is also another very important aspect of our focus today. Placing your keywords properly and naturally throughout your website will help you get a far better ranking in the SERPs. As long as you insure your website is natural and not over-saturated, your should please the Gods over at Google pretty easily. So, let's go over a few important steps you can take to ensure perfect optimization. Exact Match Domains The first thing many of you probably know is that you should have the keyword or keyword phrase in the URL of the site, or rather, have an exact match domain. This also goes for blogs because many bloggers target a separate keyword for every post they create. If you are using the WordPress platform you ll be able to change the perma-link when you're creating your post, just make sure that the perma-link is your keyword phrase. This can also be done with some pretty awesome plug-ins, such as SEO Yoast and more importantly, All-In-One SEO which automatically converts your perma-links and allows you to set up your meta tags.
What's In Your Headers? The header tags (H1, H2, H3) are one more place where you need to make sure your keyword is listed. Often times than not, you will start by setting up a Header Tag with your title in it, right? Well, Google looks at these header tags for the subject of the page, so it is always very important to have your first header tag, which should be H1 format, with your keyword placed properly, dead centered on the page. The first sentence rule is something that many individuals are probably already aware of. What this means is that no matter if your developing a post or a website your keywords need to be inside the first sentence of your website or post - This Includes your Header. Remember that Google will crawl your first sentence, or more specifically, your first header to figure out what the subject and keyword of the page is. So, make sure to have a five star meal waiting for those spiders. Keyword Density On-Page? Now, let's overlook the keyword density of your page because it is VERY important. You really don't want to be accused of keyword stuffing or get slapped, right? Well, to figure out the keyword density, it is quite simply the percentage of times it is found on your page when compared with how many other words you have on that page. Between 2% and3% is just where you will need your keyword density to end up. Hidden Keywords In Media So, here is something we bet you didn't think of. Google spiders don't just crawl your page and meta-tags, it also looks at all of the media placed on the page and tries to determine the keyword and what to index via the file names of your media!
So, there are a couple things you can do: 1. Before uploading media, make sure you change the file name to your keyword 2. Include your Keyword in the Alt-Text of the media 3. If you have a video, make sure your keyword is in the description and Title Emphasize Your Keyword, Subtly! Another thing you will want to manage is how you format each of the keywords on the page. There are several ways of doing this that will make your keyword pop but not be too in your face: 1. Bold or Italicize keywords whether individually or in context. 2. As stated above, make media file names include the keyword 3. Use your keyword ONCE in your meta description When formatting your in-context keywords, bolding or italicizing, don t just use one structure. You really need to use them all and mix all of them up. While some people just bold every single instance of their keyword this is simply not the most effective way to do it. Meta-Tags and Your Page Another forgotten aspect of on-page SEO would be your meta tags. We cant describe how many times we have seen people with overly optimized, stuffed, or just not even filled out meta tags. This is such an important factor in the way your webpage ranks in the SERPs Title tag It could be said that the title is one of the most important factors for a successful search engine optimization of your website. Located within the <head> section, right above the Description and Keywords tag, it provides summarized information about your website. Besides that, the title is what appears on search engines result page (SERP).
The title tags should be between 10-60 characters. This is not a law, but a relative guideline - a few more symbols is not a problem. You won't get penalized for having longer title tags, but the search engine will simply ignore the longer part. There are also a couple other great things that you need to do to your Title tag that will help you in the SERPs, including: The first letter of each word of the title should be capitalized. It's best not to repeat words in your title. Stop words such as A, The, And, With, etc. Should be avoided. Punctuation should be used sparingly (only when needed). Meta Description tag The description tag should be written in such way that it will show what information your website contains or what your website is about. Write short and clear sentences that will not confuse your visitors. The meta description tag also has a great importance for the SEO optimization of your page. It is most important for prospective visitors when looking at the search engine result page - this tag is often displayed there and helps you to distinguish your site from the others in the list. There are also a couple other important factors you should keep in mind when writing out your Description tags: People should be enticed to click on your site by reading your description, but marketing hype and biased words should be avoided. Descriptions should be approximately twenty-five words. Proper grammar should always be used in your description tag. ONLY begin each sentence or proper nouns with capital letters and use proper punctuation.
Meta Keywords tag Lately, the meta keyword tag has become the least important tag for the search engines and especially Google. However, it is an easy way to reinforce once again your most important keywords. When filling out your keywords tag, keep these important points in mind: The keyword tags should contain between 4 and 10 keywords. They should be listed with commas and should correspond to the major search phrases you are targeting. Every word in this tag should appear somewhere in the body, or you might get penalized for irrelevance. No single word should appear more than twice, or it may be considered spam. Meta Robots tag This tag helps you to specify the way your website will be crawled by the search engines. There are 4 types of Meta Robots Tag: Index, Follow - The search engine robots will start crawling your website from the main/index page and then will continue to the rest of the pages. Index, NoFollow - The search engine robots will start crawling your website from the main/index page and then will NOT continue to the rest of the pages. NoIndex, Follow - The search engine robots will skip the main/index page, but will crawl the rest of the pages. NoIndex, NoFollow - None of your pages will be crawled by the robot and your website will not be indexes by the search engines. If you want to be sure that all robots will crawl you website we advise you to add a "Index, follow" meta robot tag. Please note that most of the search engine crawlers will index your page staring from the index page, continuing to the rest of the pages, even if you do not have a robot tag. So if you wish your page not to be crawled or to be crawled differently use the appropriate robot tag.
