Page : 2 of 4 1.5 Conditional characteristics 1.5.1 Sealed parameters Remark This system is equipped with the possibility of a "Hot-standby" facility. This means that components of the CIU, CIU Plus and Entis Pro chain may be applied multiple (redundant). In case of a failure in one branch the other branch takes over measurements and calculations over. This implies that each branch shall be initially approved and sealed. 2 Detailed information on the most important constituent parts of the field-interface The CIU prime reads information from field instruments and other systems on the field ports, provides this information with security information (verification sign), and sends the total information to a host-computer. Apart from that commands may be given to field instruments. 2.1 Essential parts 2.1.1 Program The program is fully downloaded from outside, using a host-computer, via the so-called service port. This service port is situated inside the enclosure. So, in order to download a new program the enclosure seal must be broken. 2.1.2 Weights and Measures switch The Weights and Measures switch seals all W&M approved parameters that have been loaded into the CIU prime. 2.2 Essential characteristics The "time stamp" and "validation mark" as generated by the CIU must be considered as W&M approved parameters. 2.3 Conditional parts 2.3.1 Port for host-communication Two host-communication ports are always present. 2.3.2 Port for field communication A maximum of four field communication ports are mounted. By means of the Enraf field bus port communication with the field instruments takes place. By means of the de serial ports communication with other computing systems takes place, but also with field instruments using a serial interface. 2.4 Conditional characteristics 2.4.1 W&M approved parameters The W&M approved parameters are set from outside using a host computer. In this case, this host computer is connected to one of the host ports. These parameters are sealed by the Weights and Measures switch.
