Overview of hardware requirements Windows laptops are required Windows must have most recent service pack and security patches installed Apple Macintosh with Windows running on Bootcamp, Parallels or VMWare is permissible Webcam and headset are required for online classes i>clickers are required. Purchase your i>clicker from the Huntley Bookstore. See slide 25 for more information.
Overview of software requirements Microsoft Windows, Office, Project and Visio required Windows, Office, Project and Visio available at http://kgi.onthehub.com/ Use your KGI email address when you register Free download Matlab, Solidworks and Endnote or Reference Manager (recommended) from Huntley Bookstore (appox. $100 ea) or http://efollett.journeyed.com/_landingpg/ Adobe Acrobat Pro (recommended) from Huntley Bookstore (appox. $120 )
Computer Lab The 517 Computer Lab has about 17 computers, a color printer and a B&W printer. The 517 Library has 2 computers and a B&W printer. The 517 TMP area has a color Xerox machine and print release station. The 535 Student Study Room has 2 computers, a color printer and a B&W printer. Computers lock after 15 minutes of inactivity. Be sure to post a sign on the computer monitor if you need to leave it unattended and locked for a period of time. Otherwise, the IT department may log you out and you may lose data. If a computer is locked by another student, click Cancel, Switch User, Control-Alt-Del, Log in.
Printing, etc. Printing Do not waste paper Left over print jobs put in recycle bin each morning Use http://print.kgi.edu:7290 to send documents to a printer queue. Release your print jobs at the print release station located in the same room as the printer. You will be asked to swipe your KGI ID card. You must have Claremont Cash value on your card. Computer Lab etiquette Be courteous and respectful. Pick up after yourself before you leave. This includes used paper in and around the printers. Leave computer labs and classrooms cleaner than when you entered. The other Claremont Colleges do not allow food and drink in the computer labs. Make sure you don t lose the privilege here at KGI.
Wireless Network Wireless Networks Claremont Log in with userid@kgi and your KGI network account password. Claremont-WPA Claremont Colleges wide wireless network To connect to Claremont-WPA with a laptop connect to the Claremont wireless network first. Then register your laptop on Claremont-WPA by going to http://autoconnect.claremont.edu. You will be asked for your KGI network account credentials. iphones, ipads and ipod Touch s will connect to Claremont-WPA seamlessly.

Your KGI Network Account What your KGI network account is for Sakai, Computer lab, Claremont wireless network, Claremont-WPA wireless network, the https://reset.kgi.edu password reset web site, the http://print.kgi.edu:7290 web site and the print release stations. Your KGI username First initial, last name, year max of 8 characters Example: wrober15
Your KGI Password Password format is Fyymmddl- Example: W150801r- Password strength At least 8 characters long At least one numeric or special character At least one upper case letter At least one lower case letter No part of your name Password expiration policy Passwords expire every 6 months Protect your password Do not give/send it to anyone
Your KGI Password Reset your KGI password Go to https://reset.kgi.edu Enroll Once enrolled you will be able to change your password from anywhere on the internet. The reset password web site allows you to change the password for logging in to Sakai, computer lab computers, for connecting to the Claremont and Claremont-WPA wireless networks, for logging into the http://print.kgi.edu:7290 web site and for logging into the print release stations. The reset web site does NOT reset the password for e-mail or the student portal. These 2 systems are all separate from one another.

Sakai Store files in My Workspace resources You can create your own sites in Sakai and invite classmates and guests to join your site Your courses are in Sakai. Audio/Visual Classroom and Conference Room audio/visual technology can be used by students. Reserve KGI spaces by contacting the Faculty Administrator in that building. Most conference rooms have a projector and drop down screen. Large rooms have DVD/VCR and audio system. Contact helpdesk@kgi.edu if you need help with the AV equipment or have questions.
