Mission To provide MBE manufacturers with manufacturing best practices, innovation trends, technology, and access to new relationships for business opportunities.
How We Began Dating back to its foundation, the Georgia Institute of Technology has been a leader in manufacturing. Georgia Tech, currently ranked number four for U.S. engineering schools according to U.S. News and World Report, continues this tradition of excellence through world class teaching and cutting edge research that includes real world application. In 2013, the MBDA Business Center-Atlanta launched a national manufacturing initiative through supplemental funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). This initiative identified MBE manufacturers as an under-served community. In 2016, the Center launched the first ever National MBE Manufacturers Summit 2016 bringing together 200 MBE manufacturers, corporations, and organizations from 19 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, DC. MBDA provided funding to Georgia Tech to establish the Atlanta MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Center designed to engage an ecosystem of MBE manufacturers, OEMs, major suppliers and other partners through research and development projects, tech transfer initiatives, business-to-business connections, and new market expansion. The MBDA also opened MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Centers in Baltimore, Detroit, and San Antonio. Focused on building a national ecosystem of MBE manufacturers, partners, and stakeholders, the Atlanta MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Center creates expansion opportunities for MBE manufacturers by facilitating their growth through innovation and technology, training and education, as well as advocating inclusiveness with corporate suppliers. The National MBE Manufacturers Summit 2017 will directly support these efforts through: Exposure to the latest trends and innovation in manufacturing and supply chains Connections with large manufacturing enterprises Contact with supply chain networks Development of short and long-term partnerships Access to Georgia Tech research and manufacturing initiatives Due to the major initiatives and partnerships that Georgia Tech has with federal and national manufacturing programs, we are encouraging corporations to be a major partner by supporting this groundbreaking Summit.
